"Who are you, and why have you come to attack my Yan family?"
Town Chief Yan stared at Lin Le before him and demanded an answer.
"Hmm, enforcing justice on Heaven's behalf?" Lin Le considered it for a moment.
"Enforcing justice on Heaven's behalf?" Town Chief Yan laughed in anger. "What kind of crooked, evil path am I supposed to be? Ask around—within ten miles of Qinghu Town, who doesn't know that I, Yan Dahai, am charitable and kind, a great philanthropist?"
"Fuck!" Lin Le laughed in anger as well. "Just because you call yourself a good man, you really think you're one?"
"Am I not?" Town Chief Yan wore an utterly matter-of-fact expression. "Ask them. Which household in town doesn't remember the Yan family's kindness? Without my Yan family, they would have long since been eaten by demons."
"Then can you explain what happened with the Demon Slaying Squad a few days ago?" Lin Le smiled, but his gaze grew even colder. "An entire squad was sent to become blood food. Great philanthropist Yan, where is your conscience?"
Steward Lu had put in the effort to organize the Demon Slaying Squad, but Yan Dahai had been the one leading it.
Lin Le did not believe for a second that Yan Dahai had known nothing about it.
"Wasn't that only right?" Yan Dahai still looked as if it were the most natural thing in the world. "Abandon them to ensure the safety of the town's residents—sacrifice the small household to preserve the greater one. You don't even understand such principles of sages?"
"Sages? Ha!" Lin Le threw back his head with a sigh. The next instant, he had already soared above Yan Dahai like a swallow.
"Then I'll send you to meet the sages and ask them properly whether this was the principle they taught!"
Pointing Stars!
His spear momentum was fierce, its tip like a shooting star as it stabbed straight for Yan Dahai's forehead.
Yan Dahai was, after all, a Third Layer cultivator. He reacted in an instant, raising his sword and thrusting upward.
Needle against wheat awn—the spear tips crashed head-on.
Bang!
Lin Le and Yan Dahai were locked in a stalemate, but Lin Le still had another pair of "hands."
The Hun Tian Ling lashed out, and the Yin-Yang Sword stabbed from a vicious angle toward Yan Dahai's crotch and forehead.
Seeing how sinister the sword attack was, Yan Dahai cursed, "Despicable!" and hurriedly retreated.
Lin Le turned a deaf ear. After landing, he gripped the Universe Ring, drew his waist back like a full moon bow, then released it.
Sky-Breaking!
Ever since comprehending the Slaughter of Death Momentum, Lin Le had never fussed over what weapon he used. The fighting style of the Thirteen Revolutions of Fighting Heaven had never been limited to spears or swords—or even rings.
Whoosh!
Golden light raced forward, flying straight at Yan Dahai's face.
Yan Dahai hurriedly activated a magical artifact—a Small Turtle Shield.
Dong!
The Universe Ring collided with the turtle shield like the toll of a great bell.
Though the turtle shield remained intact, Yan Dahai spewed out a mouthful of blood. The residual force had injured him.
I cannot fight him head-on! This thought immediately surfaced in Yan Dahai's mind. His face then twisted viciously as he shouted at the servants and guards nearby, "Quick! What are you standing around for? Shoot him dead!"
Even Steward Lu could obtain crossbows capable of threatening cultivators. How could Yan Dahai fail to acquire them?
The guards immediately came to their senses, drew the crossbows they carried, and fired at Lin Le.
Lin Le ignored them and continued charging at Yan Dahai with his spear.
What was a natal magical artifact? A magical artifact linked to one's mind, capable of growing alongside its master.
And since they were linked by intent, could one use a natal magical artifact to cast spells?
The answer was yes.
Flawless!
The Hun Tian Ling danced, while the Yin-Yang Sword spun with the momentum. Together, they formed two shields that blocked the arrows for Lin Le.
Yan Dahai was knowledgeable enough to recognize what he was seeing at a glance. "Natal magical artifacts! You actually broke through to Embracing the Dan!"
Lin Le remained unmoved. With only two or three strides, he had already reached Yan Dahai.
Two Forms of Fighting Heaven: Sky-Breaking!
The spear shot forth like lightning, carving a streak of blue light through the air as it drove toward Yan Dahai's forehead.
Rise! Yan Dahai immediately activated the turtle shield, trying to block it.
Yet even as the spear plunged into his forehead, Yan Dahai never saw the turtle shield rise.
In the final instant before his consciousness faded, Yan Dahai looked down and saw that his turtle shield had been tightly locked by a golden ring, unable to fly up at all.
Another natal magical artifact?
Yan Dahai was stunned. Then, carrying that shock with him, he sank into darkness.
Still too weak. Am I too strong, or are they just too damn useless? Looking at the 108 merit points and 16 points of killing karma added to his account, Lin Le could not help sighing inwardly.
He had thought Yan Dahai would test his limits, but Yan Dahai had fallen after barely two or three exchanges.
Lin Le felt that his combat strength was a little too far beyond the norm.
Glancing at the guards who had stopped firing, Lin Le waved his hand. "Kill them."
The Three Treasures obeyed and immediately charged at everyone.
The guards instantly cried for their fathers and mothers, scattering in miserable disarray.
But Lin Le was like a killing machine without emotions. He slaughtered his way from the front courtyard to the rear courtyard, stopping only after every living thing had been killed.
Human Dao merit: 278 points, Earthly Dao merit: 5 points, killing karma: 325 points.
I've finally gathered enough killing karma for the sixth segment of the Yang Spiritual Root. Lin Le looked at the thirty-two lotus roots and let out a soft breath.
The thirty-two lotus roots vanished, and scorching heat spread through Lin Le's spine.
Within the Huangting Secret Realm, another segment slowly grew from the towering red pillar five zhang high, bringing it to six zhang.
The next time will be six hundred and forty points—sixty-four First Layer cultivators.
Lin Le swept his gaze over the corpses filling the courtyard, patted the well nine times, and a snake head emerged from the bottom. After looking around, Qingli could not help complaining, "Every time, no heads. How deep is your obsession with blowing people's heads off?"
"Because if the head is gone, they're truly dead." Lin Le shrugged. "But if only the heart is gone, the corpse might still become a zombie and harm people."
"Fine." Qingli looked at the corpses dressed as servants. "Try to kill fewer people in the future. Otherwise, I'm afraid you won't make it through the trial of entering the White Jade Capital."
"I'm more afraid that killing too few people will make that trial even harder to pass." Lin Le changed the subject. "Gather the valuables. I still need to take down the other two households while I'm at it."
Yan Dahai had been the strongest force in Qinghu Town, followed by the four great stewards. Since even Yan Dahai was no match for him, the other two households would be even less so.
"Fine." Qingli exhaled a breath and gathered all the valuables from the Yan family.
Suddenly, it gave a soft cry of surprise. "Eh? There's actually a Dragon Bone here."
"Dragon bone? Where?" Lin Le swept his gaze around, yet failed to spot any trace of one.
"Here." Qingli curled its snake tongue around a bone fragment that looked like white porcelain. "If there hadn't still been a faint trace of dragon aura on it, even I wouldn't have noticed."
After circling around it a few times, Qingli said, "It should be a bone left behind by a dragon that died many years ago. And the person who crafted it back then didn't recognize it either—they directly carved it up as material."
Qingli looked at Lin Le. "Can I have the dragon aura on it?"
"Sure." Lin Le did not care much. If not for Qingli, he might never have paid attention to this work of art.
Lin Le continued sorting through the spoils when he suddenly found a palm-sized black iron ingot. Judging by its appearance, it clearly was no ordinary iron.
He tried lifting it and weighing it in his hand. It felt slightly heavy to him. For something that could feel heavy in his hand, it had to weigh several hundred jin at least.
Lin Le glanced at the Tiger Bone Spear. It had ultimately been forged with magical artifact materials. Though it felt light, it was quite durable, but it would be even better if it could be made heavier.
"Can this piece of iron be fused into my spear?" Lin Le asked Qingli, holding up the black iron.
"Heavy Jun Iron? It can." Qingli, who was picking through snacks, turned its head and nodded. "But if you want it properly refined, it's best to find an artifact refiner. Otherwise, refining it again later will be a real hassle."
"As long as it works." Lin Le handed over the spear.
"Fine." Qingli nodded and spat out a mouthful of white fire, beginning to scorch the black iron.
