Background

Kazahana Koyuki was the only child and rightful heir of Kazahana Sōsetsu, the daimyo of the Land of Snow. Following Sōsetsu's death—rumored to have been caused by his younger brother, Kazahana Dōtō—Koyuki was forced to flee the country with her guard, Sandayū Asama. 334

At five years old, Koyuki lived in hiding with Sandayū in Chiba City in the Land of Earth. Sandayū planned to raise her there until she was old enough to challenge Dōtō for the throne, while Koyuki herself did not want to return to the Land of Snow after losing her father and family. 335

The Fourth Tsuchikage, Yichen, located Koyuki and offered to restore her as daimyo. In exchange, Iwagakure would establish a protected branch in the Land of Snow, while Koyuki would surrender the country's treasure to Yichen. 335

Restoration of the Land of Snow

Yichen escorted Koyuki, Sandayū, and Iwagakure Anbu back to the Land of Snow. As the group advanced, commoners and officials loyal to Kazahana Sōsetsu gradually declared for Koyuki. 335 336

Kazahana Dōtō attempted to stop Yichen's party but was defeated and killed. His remaining loyalists were either captured or killed after resisting Iwagakure. 336

With Dōtō removed, Koyuki's supporters and the Land of Snow's officials accepted her rule. The Land of Snow subsequently concluded the Snow-Earth Strategic Alliance with Iwagakure. 336

Koyuki was timid and overwhelmed by the sudden return to her homeland and the conflict surrounding her succession. She hid behind Sandayū when Yichen first visited and remained shocked after witnessing Dōtō's defeat. 335 336

Her reluctance to return to the Land of Snow stemmed from grief and isolation rather than political ambition. Before Yichen's intervention, she hoped to become an actress after seeing a performance in Chiba City. 335
