Background / History
Li Shaolin created the Lich from the corpse of Mobent after defeating the dark mage. Though initially identified as a Death Knight, the summon immediately demonstrated an identity beyond that of an ordinary minion: it had devoured Mobent's consciousness, inherited his memories and alchemy, and could speak and think independently. It nonetheless recognized Li Shaolin as its master through their mental link. 112
The Lich presented Mobent's Undead Amulet and crystal Skeleton Staff to Li Shaolin, then helped investigate and secure Mobent's former treasure site. Its inherited memories allowed it to recognize locations and explain the Amulet's methods for controlling undead. 112 114 115
While Li Shaolin slept for two days following the acquisition of Raven Hill's treasure, the Lich independently gathered remains from the Violet Crypt and created nearly a thousand Skeleton Abominations. It later explained that these incomplete creations required flesh, souls, and death energy to reach their full combat potential. 116 117
After Li Shaolin reached level 20, the Lich became a principal adviser in the formation of an undead force. It proposed using the Abomination Legion to generate death energy, suggested converting Raven Hill into an undead castle, and directed the legion during clashes with the Defias Brotherhood. 117 118
The Lich retrieved the Book of Ul and Moonfang Scythe from the haunted well despite the danger of its vengeful spirit. While Li Shaolin rested after the battle outside the well, it turned the bodies of Kites and the Tauren Shaman into Abominations and stood guard over its master. 120 121 123
When the Moonfang Scythe's power disrupted Li Shaolin's spiritual connection with his summons, the Lich used its secondary command authority to mobilize ten thousand Abominations in defense of him. 124
Following Li Shaolin's rise to level 40, the Lich received Frost Controller powers and became a Frost Shadow Mage. It subsequently helped subdue Rubens, participated in the conquest of Rotting Grass Farm and Vorgul Ogre Mountain, and began using plague effects to establish an undead base. 125 127 129
Appearance
The Lich occupies Mobent's reanimated body and commonly carries a crystal Skeleton Staff. After receiving Li Shaolin's death energy, its appearance became more visibly undead. 112 129
- One eye burns red while the other glows icy white after its empowerment. 129
- Its muscles became sunken, leaving it with the appearance of a skeletal frame covered in skin. 129
- It can emit frost and shadow energy when using its Frost Shadow Mage powers. 125
- Its staff can produce pale white light, form bone shields, and cast Bone Spears. 115 120
Personality
The Lich is outwardly deferential, regularly addressing Li Shaolin as “Master” and presenting itself as his servant. Its loyalty is practical and proactive: it protects Li Shaolin from spiritual threats, volunteers for dangerous tasks, and repeatedly develops strategies to expand their power. 115 120 124
It also inherited Mobent's ambition and necromantic pragmatism. The Lich is eager to build an undead army and base, views corpses as resources, and has little concern for the human cost of using the Abomination Legion. 116 117 123 129
Despite its independence, it shows genuine concern for Li Shaolin's safety. It warns him away from the haunted well, guards him while he sleeps, and mobilizes the legion when his mental sea comes under attack. 120 123 124
Abilities & Skills
Necromancy and Abomination Creation
The Lich can reanimate corpses into Abominations and command large undead formations through its connection to Li Shaolin's forces.
- Created nearly a thousand Skeleton Abominations from remains in the Violet Crypt during Li Shaolin's sleep. 116 117
- Can transform fresh corpses into stronger flesh-and-blood Abominations. 123
- Reanimated fallen Ogres during the battle for Vorgul Ogre Mountain. 129
- Commands the Abomination Legion through red spiritual connections emitted from its crystal Skeleton Staff. 117
- Temporarily exercised secondary command authority over ten thousand Abominations when Li Shaolin's connection to his summons was severed. 124
- Early Skeleton Abominations were smaller, lacked their characteristic hooked claws, and needed flesh and soul nourishment to reach full strength. 117
Curses and Bone Magic
The Lich is a capable curse caster and ranged necromancer.
- Casts Amplify Damage, Lesser Blindness, and Fear against enemy groups. 118
- Uses Bone Spear to kill Defias Mages, destroy vengeful spirits, and finish the wounded Worgen Kites. 118 120 123
- Can create rotating bone shields for defense. 115
- Uses curses such as Aging Curse to weaken and suppress targets. 127
Frost Shadow Mage
The Book of the Dead granted the Lich a Frost Controller identity, giving it Level 40 Frost Shadow Mage talents. 125
- Frozen Orb — its ultimate skill; used as a defensive, orbiting frost construct. 125 126
- Can freeze targets with frost mist and ice shards. 127
- Combines frost with shadow and death magic in battle. 125 127
Borrowed Magic
As Li Shaolin's external avatar, the Lich can borrow his magical abilities through the Book of the Dead. 112
- Li Shaolin loses access to his own magic while the Lich is borrowing it. 112
- Li Shaolin can withdraw or restore this power as needed, allowing the Lich to fight while he focuses on commanding other summons. 119
- Li Shaolin later bestowed a permanent portion of his death energy to strengthen the Lich, weakening himself in the process. 128 129
Detection and Spirit Countermeasures
The Lich is particularly effective against ghosts and resentful spirits.
- Detected vengeful spirits hidden around the ruined village plaza. 120
- Warned Li Shaolin that the spirit in the ancient well could bewitch minds. 120
- Entered the well because it believed the spirit could not harm it. 120
- Its return weakened and silenced the well spirit's seductive song. 123
