History

Li Shaolin awakens naked in Mirror Lake Orchard after playing World of Warcraft while leaving Diablo II open. He realizes he has transmigrated into Azeroth with a level-one Necromancer character, fashions a grass skirt from tea branches, and begins searching for food and shelter. 1

His class activates after he encounters a Forest Wolf. The Book of the Dead manifests as his class item, allowing him to raise Skeleton Warriors from corpses. Although his first summon is destroyed, Li survives through improvisation, kills the wolf, and reaches level 3. 2

After reaching Goldshire, Li joins Jack, Mogaban, and Moni on a kobold expedition into Fargodeep Mine. There he develops his summoning tactics, gains Clay Golem, defeats Goldtooth, and eventually becomes the mine’s owner through an agreement with the Stonefield side. 7 8 11 23

He later navigates the feud between the Stonefield and Makrolen families, helping negotiate an arrangement over Fargodeep Mine and agreeing to assist in reclaiming Jerod’s Dock from the Defias Brotherhood. 25 26

His travels bring him into contact with Archmage Seokreitus, who recruits him to infiltrate Ilgarra Tower and recover Ul’s Shadow Magic Research Papers and a Shadow Pendant from Morgans. Seokreitus equips him with an eight-slot Space Belt and potions for the task. 14 15

As Li’s undead forces evolve, he travels through Westfall, Duskwood, Shadowfang Keep, and Stormwind. He survives Onyxia’s Dragon Breath when the Book of the Dead automatically transforms him into a colossal black-armored figure wielding a curved greatsword. 33 73 108

After defeating Mobent, Li creates a sentient Death Knight/Lich from his corpse. Upon reaching level 20, he gains command over an expanding undead force; by the Ogre Mountain campaign, his army includes thousands of Abominations, Skeletons, and Golems. 112 117 128 130

Appearance

Li Shaolin usually presents himself as a lightly equipped human mage, often wearing a plain mage robe despite possessing physical strength comparable to a trained warrior. His appearance can change drastically when he assumes his Half-Undead form. 101 132

Li Shaolin is highly adaptive under pressure. He repeatedly compensates for incomplete magical knowledge with improvisation, using terrain, summons, equipment, and enemy weaknesses rather than relying on direct confrontation. 19 112 126

Despite his necromancy and growing ruthlessness toward hostile forces, he shows compassion toward civilians and companions. He helps Tommy after a gnoll attack, protects a farmer’s grandson from a Ghost, and repeatedly risks himself to save Phili. 28 73 83

He is cautious about exposing his necromancy, often dismissing summons or disguising his abilities around strangers. This secrecy becomes increasingly difficult as his undead army and unusual powers grow. 2 33 143
