Background / History

Havent is the heir of the Hailan family of the North Territory. Before the Church of Death’s assault on Baiman City, Solis regarded him as exceptionally gifted but chronically uninterested in most pursuits. Havent’s father later observed a decisive change after the siege: Havent began making reckless-looking choices that repeatedly proved correct. 5 137

During the Battle of Baiman City, Havent repeatedly simulated the next ten hours in search of a way to save the city. His early simulations ended with his father gravely wounded or his own forces annihilated by the Demon Dragon. He ultimately identified the Death Cult’s control array as a potential weakness and participated in the raid on its rear array. 6 8 137

After the battle, Havent exposed the spy Dalot and accepted an assignment to travel alone to the Imperial Capital. He traveled incognito under the name Will, joined the Gale Mercenary Group, and escorted the young Baron Lori Suir after attacks against Lori’s household. 25 26 28 30 31 50 52

In the Imperial Capital, Havent entered the Royal Academy, became involved in conflicts among provincial noble students, and developed a reputation for forceful intervention against bullies and political opponents. 112 113 114

Emperor Frederick IV later appointed Havent as a Special Investigator for Military Intelligence Section 8. His investigations into therianthrope attacks, disappearances, the Rotten Mushroom Tavern, and the Dark Alliance exposed serious failures within the capital’s security and intelligence structures. 179 185 186 188 205 228

Following the attack on Cavendish Manor, Frederick IV elevated Havent to Special Inspector with independent authority. Havent subsequently began reforming Military Intelligence Section 8 while also returning to the North Territory to organize a long-term development and defense program. 229 231 235 236

Appearance

Havent is a slender young noble with fair skin and grayish-green eyes. He often travels in deliberately plain or practical clothing to conceal his identity. 27 28 142

  • Dyed his hair and wore old leather armor while leaving Baiman City incognito. 28
  • Uses simple swordsman attire and the alias “Will” while traveling as an adventurer. 30
  • Wears the White Lion Family emblem and Military Intelligence Section 8 badge when exercising official authority. 191
  • Later uses the Savior’s leather armor during investigations. 198

Personality

Havent is intelligent, observant, and naturally analytical. He rapidly identifies political motives, security gaps, and inconsistencies in others’ stories, including Dalot’s suspiciously timed assassination attempt and the organized nature of the Night Alliance’s local operations. 24 25 200

He dislikes being burdened with complicated responsibilities, yet repeatedly takes charge when others are endangered or institutions fail. This tendency leads him from protecting Baiman City and Lori to reforming Military Intelligence Section 8 and planning the North Territory’s future. 52 186 231 235

His courage is tempered by impulsiveness and a willingness to use violence. Havent can be reckless in provoking enemies, ruthlessly kills attackers who threaten him, and uses coercive magic during interrogations. At the same time, he shows compassion toward vulnerable people such as Lori, Annie, her mother, and the citizens of the North Territory. 14 32 33 191 205 219
