Haotian is deeply conscious of authority, reputation, and the dignity of the Heavenly Court. Early in his reign, he is despondent over his empty title and the refusal of powerful immortals to recognize him, yet he remains determined to revive the court for Hongjun. 121 176

His pride makes humiliation especially dangerous. Background & History

Hongjun selected Haotian, then his boy attendant, as Lord of the Heavenly Court after the Witch-Demon conflict. He was transformed into an adult, granted the supreme Jade Emperor title, ordered to command the heavenly stars and govern the immortals of the Primordial Era, and entrusted with the Haotian Mirror. 121

Haotian’s early reign was marked by a lack of influence. Few powerful cultivators joined the Heavenly Court, while Saint disciples ignored or openly offended its ruler. With Yaochi, he organized the Peach Banquet to attract prominent figures, recruit talent, and build the court’s treasury through tribute. 176 177 180 At the banquet’s conclusion, he declared the Heavenly Laws and Rules, receiving Heavenly Dao recognition and advancing to the middle stage of Quasi-Saint. 183

His attempt to impose order escalated tensions with the major sects and rogue immortals. Haotian pursued violators through the Haotian Mirror and expanded the Heavenly Court’s network of supervising gods. 193 196 Seeking obedient personnel to fill vacant divine offices, he appealed to Hongjun, whose response set the Investiture of the Gods tribulation in motion. 220 221

Haotian’s rivalry with Gu Changsheng became a defining conflict of his rule. Gu Changsheng defeated him in Chaos, forcing him to surrender four High-grade Innate Spiritual Treasures before allowing him to leave. 216 217 Haotian later attempted to reclaim the God-Beating Whip and Investiture of the Gods Scroll from Purple Mansion Continent, only to be humiliated and severely wounded by Kong Xuan. 298 300

Unable to tolerate Purple Mansion Continent’s growing strength, Haotian entered reincarnation tribulation and left Yaochi in charge of the Heavenly Court. He eventually returned as a late-stage Quasi-Saint. 301 338 His later reign involved further clashes with the Dragon Clan, demon race, Buddhism, and Chan Sect, culminating in his failed campaign against Kunlun and another retreat after Gu Changsheng subdued him. 485 529 612 620

Ziwei the Great Emperor ultimately stripped Haotian of the Heavenly Court’s imperial throne. Haotian responded by rejecting the loss of his position, battling Buddhist forces, assembling rogue immortals, and repeatedly attempting to retake the court. 807 808 848 His final documented confrontation with Ziwei ends with the Grand Formation of Stars breaking his imperial body and forcing his withdrawal under Dao Ancestor Hongjun’s decree. 857
