Background / History

An ancient sect record states that, in the 3,721st year of the Taihua calendar, a celestial anomaly caused spacetime turbulence in Taihua’s Northern Region. Heaven Sect’s patriarch, Master Xuanyuan, answered a Holy Land envoy’s summons and assisted in sealing the disturbance. After the seal stabilized three years later, the Holy Land ordered Heaven Sect to guard the site. 990 991

In return, the sect received ten Guardian Puppets, a volume of the Heavenly Derivation Scripture, three spirit veins, and a Secret Realm. These resources enabled Heaven Sect to become Taihua Domain’s foremost sect within ten years. 991

The sect is also believed to have sealed the Gate of Sighs, a catastrophe connected to the separation between the Mystic Heaven Realm and the Galaxy system. Its higher-ups are consequently suspected of knowing the gate’s true history. 917

Zixiao Zhenren later revealed that Mystic Heaven Holy Land’s founding Holy Master had originated from the world sealed under Heaven Sect’s watch. After the founder vanished, the second Holy Master purged the geniuses associated with him, suppressed his cultivation inheritance, and sealed their world of origin. This revelation placed the sealed world within a much older struggle over the Holy Land’s founding inheritance. Jiang Fan suspected that the founding Holy Master, described as a man who liked riding a bull, was the Old Man Riding a Bull who had given him the Martial Arts Space. 1166

Heaven Sect stands above Taihua’s four major sects:

• Falling Cloud Sect — One of the four major sects beneath Heaven Sect; its dependence on Heaven Sect left Sect Master Tian Sheng unable to refuse Elder Pei’s recruitment of Duan Gang. 917 930 931

At the time Jiang Fan first learned of the sect, every Heaven Sect elder was said to be a Spirit Master, its sect master a Venerable, and its Old Ancestor an Emperor Realm cultivator. 917 Later accounts describe its elders as mostly Venerable Realm cultivators, and Elder Pei’s strength is treated as comparable to that realm. 925 926 927

Falling Cloud Sect’s inner disciples receive an annual opportunity to cultivate at Heaven Sect’s Enlightenment Peak through an agreement between the sects. Wang Lin described a day of cultivation there as equivalent to a month of ordinary cultivation within Falling Cloud Sect. Despite this arrangement, some Heaven Sect disciples openly regarded the visiting disciples as inferiors and dismissed their access as charity rather than an entitlement. 923 947

Heaven Sect’s dominance is regional rather than realm-wide. Its tournament delegation was visibly impressed by Guangling Domain’s Myriad Sects Garden, whose buildings surpassed those of Heaven Sect. Mystic Heaven Holy Land stands far above it: Elder Pei understood that a Holy Land envoy could determine a sect’s rise or fall with a single word. 997 1037

Organization

Disciple ranks

The distinctions between disciple ranks govern everyday etiquette as well as resources. A gate captain counted among the menial workers addressed the newly admitted Duan Gang as Senior Brother and treated his inner disciple status with considerable deference. New inner disciples register at the Affairs Hall and select a cave residence. 934

A separate divide exists between the sect’s favored loyalists and disciples recruited from subordinate sects. During both the sealed-land expedition and the Sect Ranking Tournament, the latter were assigned dangerous roles intended to protect the sect’s more valued disciples. 954 993 1010

Leadership

• Master Xuanyuan — Historical patriarch who assisted a Holy Land in sealing the northern spacetime disturbance. 990 991
• Elder Pei — Heaven Sect elder responsible for recruiting Duan Gang, leading the sect’s team in the Mystic Heaven Realm Sect Ranking Tournament, and overseeing the sealed-land investigation. 930 951 996

The available residences differ in spiritual energy, specialized benefits, and suitability for particular cultivation methods; a lower overall grade does not necessarily mean a residence is inferior for every cultivator. 934 935

Story Role / Major Arcs

Recruitment of Duan Gang

Elder Pei attended Falling Cloud Sect’s grand competition while seeking talented younger cultivators for Heaven Sect. After Duan Gang displayed Spirit Master Realm strength at age thirty-two, Pei praised his talent and maneuvered for Falling Cloud Sect to surrender him to Heaven Sect. 930

Duan Gang accepted the offer and was made an inner disciple. He retained his Falling Cloud Sect status and received a purple-gold identity token that allowed entry into Heaven Sect and contained a route map to its headquarters. 931

The recruit was actually Jiang Fan using Duan Gang’s identity. He regarded admission to Heaven Sect as an opportunity to investigate the Gate of Sighs and the separation of the Galaxy system from the Mystic Heaven Realm. 917 931 1042

Arrival and conflict with inner disciples

On arriving at Heaven Sect, Jiang Fan was guided through registration by Li Su. At the Affairs Hall, Deacon Liu refused his request for Withered Glory Pavilion, claiming it had already been reserved. A clique of inner disciples then mocked his Falling Cloud Sect origins and demanded that he kneel and apologize. When four of them attacked, Jiang Fan easily evaded their blows and slapped them away while Deacon Liu watched in disbelief. 934 937

Later, Falling Cloud Sect disciples visited Enlightenment Peak under the agreement between the sects. Fan Ming and his followers demanded their cultivation spots despite the visitors still having valid time remaining. Xue Chen refused to yield and organized a defensive formation, but the Heaven Sect disciples broke it and injured her. Jiang Fan emerged from the Quiet Meditation Room as Fan Ming prepared to continue the assault, causing Fan Ming and his followers to recoil in fear. 946 947

Sealed-land expedition

Elder Pei assembled elite inner disciples after an ancient seal in a Secret Realm began consuming nearby life and caused a sect guard’s disappearance. The sect offered substantial rewards for investigating the anomaly. 951

Inside the seal, the disciples encountered materialized time rules capable of instantly aging and killing those who touched them. Many participants realized that a large proportion of the group consisted of recruits from outside sects or overlooked Heaven Sect disciples, leading them to conclude that they had been sent as expendable probes. 954

The expedition consisted of thirty inner disciples, more than half of whom had been promoted from other sects. As the deaths mounted, participants suspected that Heaven Sect had deliberately protected its true prodigies while using less-valued disciples to gather information about the seal. A subsequent torrent of temporal fragments broke their defensive formation, and Jiang Fan escaped during the chaos. 954 955

Jiang Fan later reunited with Zeng Yang and Jiang Zhuoxi, the only other survivors they knew of. He warned that Heaven Sect might deny the promised rewards or eliminate them after receiving their report, and proposed bringing back a Time Rules particle as evidence to pressure the sect into honoring its promises. 985

After the expedition, Heaven Sect rewarded Jiang Fan, still using Duan Gang’s identity, Zeng Yang, and Jiang Zhuoxi with Spirit Stones, medicines, pills, Library Pavilion and Enlightenment Chamber access, cave-residence selection, unrestricted Enlightenment Peak entry, and the promise of elder status upon reaching the Venerable Realm. Jiang Fan nevertheless warned his companions to remain cautious of further schemes. 989

Mystic Heaven Realm Sect Ranking Tournament

Heaven Sect entered the once-per-decade Sect Ranking Tournament under Elder Pei’s leadership. The tournament determined sect prestige, recruitment appeal, and access to limited quotas in ancient secret realms, ruins, and resource sites. 993 996

Pei assigned Duan Gang, Zeng Yang, and Jiang Zhuoxi to a Special Tactics Group. Although publicly described as a surprise force, the group’s actual assigned role was to exhaust opposing elites and create opportunities for Heaven Sect’s loyalist disciples. 996 1009 1010

The delegation traveled to Central City in Guangling Domain and lodged at Clear Ripple Garden within the Myriad Sects Garden. Elder Pei ordered tactical drills before the competition, while Jiang Fan and his two companions were excluded from the regular preparations and cultivated separately. 997 999 1005

The sect opened strongly, placing sixth in the first-round Hundred Sects Melee with 29 Battle Tokens and 290 points. 1007 Three of its five representatives completed the second-round Qianzhang Maze Domain mission, while its disciples accumulated 950 points in the Nine Nether Cold Pond survival round; nevertheless, its standing fell to twelfth before the troop-deployment battle. 1007 1008

It later faced Red Firmament Sect in the troop-deployment round. Duan Gang killed the early Venerable Realm Zhao Wuji with a single finger, winning his group’s match for Heaven Sect. 1013 1014 However, Red Firmament Sect won the overall round by three matches to two after its hidden trump card, Li Muyun, defeated Heaven Sect’s final team; Qi Hao and two accompanying Heaven Sect disciples were also killed in the second match. 1012 1016 1017

The confrontation intensified an existing rivalry. Red Firmament Sect blamed Heaven Sect for Ren Huai’s death in Central City, although the city’s Law Enforcement Team attributed his death to his own circumstances. Chen Gang’s killing of Qi Hao and his teammates further inflamed hostility between the sects. 1002 1009 1012

The troop-deployment defeat cost Heaven Sect 400 points, reducing its total from 1,300 to 900 and dropping it from twelfth to twenty-fifth. Leng Yuexin urged Elder Pei to use Duan Gang in the final melee, but Pei feared both his estrangement from the sect and the possibility of future retaliation. 1017

Despite Duan Gang’s victory, Elder Pei withheld him from the final hundred-person melee, fearing that his performance would attract the Hidden Dragon Ranking’s selectors and place him beyond Heaven Sect’s control. 1019 Heaven Sect ultimately finished twenty-seventh with 900 points—its worst recorded result—and suffered reduced future resource allocation and prestige. 1021

Loss of Duan Gang

Duan Gang was selected tenth for the Hidden Dragon Ranking after the tournament. 1022 He later placed first in the assessment and received an invitation from Zixiao Zhenren to become both an inner disciple and personal disciple of Mystic Heaven Holy Land. 1036 1038

During the assessment, he cleared all six floors of the Six-Hole Labyrinth in 103 breaths, establishing a record. Spectators questioned how Heaven Sect had acquired such an exceptional disciple and why it had failed to use him in the tournament’s final round. 1022 1032

Elder Pei initially regarded the apparent lack of invitations from hidden sects as an opportunity to eliminate Duan Gang. Mystic Heaven Holy Land’s intervention instead left him fearful that the sect’s treatment of Duan Gang could bring retaliation from a force far above Heaven Sect. 1036 1037

Before departing, Jiang Fan arranged for Zeng Yang and Jiang Zhuoxi to accompany him to the Holy Land as Servant Disciples, ending their association with Heaven Sect. 1040 1041

Zixiao Zhenren questioned Jiang Fan about the sealed land and promised that the Holy Land would address Heaven Sect’s past actions. He also revealed that he had seen through Jiang Fan’s disguise. Jiang Fan subsequently used Spatial Shuttle to return to Heaven Sect with Zeng Yang and Jiang Zhuoxi, received a grand welcome, and went directly to Withered Glory Pavilion to prepare for departure. Unable to bring Chen Ping to the Holy Land, he left him Spirit Stones and pills to support his cultivation. 1040 1041

Later revelations about the sealed world

Zixiao Zhenren later demonstrated detailed knowledge of Jiang Fan’s passage through Heaven Sect. He knew of the Time Torrent that had struck the seal node and caused its guardian puppets to disappear, Jiang Fan’s use of Duan Gang’s identity, Elder Pei’s recruitment, and the sect’s subsequent attempts to sacrifice him through dangerous assignments and Exchange Tactics. 1042

Much later, Zixiao Zhenren connected Heaven Sect’s sealed world to Mystic Heaven Holy Land’s founding lineage. His account identified the second Holy Master as responsible for suppressing the founder’s inheritance and sealing the world from which the founder and associated geniuses had come. The revelation expanded the significance of Heaven Sect’s custodial role beyond the local anomaly recorded in its annals. 990 991 1166
