Background / History

Aponia was a native of Twilight Street who served as a nun and operated a church-based sanatorium. Unable to ignore people suffering from Honkai Sickness, she took in large numbers of patients despite lacking the means to cure or meaningfully ease their suffering. Concentrating the patients inadvertently increased the local Honkai Energy concentration, worsening the disease and allowing it to spread outward. 9

Her early mental abilities emerged after prolonged contact with Honkai Energy through her care for the infected. She could see the “threads of fate” associated with other people and developed Judgment as a means of trying to interfere with those destinies. The inability to reliably avert the tragedies she foresaw made the power a source of guilt and danger rather than a simple blessing. 8 12

Ai Yue's Honkai Energy Absorbers allowed the sanatorium's patients to survive and brought him into Aponia's life. Aponia used her reputation and network to connect him with buyers, while the sanatorium received supplies and commissions from his inventions. Their partnership developed into a close personal bond. 2

After Moth to Fire discovered the group in Twilight Street, Aponia was classified as a psychic and later volunteered for Fusion Warrior surgery despite its low success rate. The operation amplified her already exceptional mental gifts, making her one of humanity's most formidable psychic combatants. 6 7 8

Appearance

Aponia is a striking woman who usually wears a modest nun's habit. Even the loose garment does not fully conceal her pronounced figure. 2

  • Commonly dresses as a nun, reflecting her role at the Twilight Street church and sanatorium. 2 141
  • May wear a white coat over her damaged habit after dangerous experiments. 87
  • During aberration recovery, manifests translucent butterfly wings and two additional pairs of wing-like arms while retaining a human appearance. 192
  • Her aberration form is stabilized by her own power rather than becoming overtly monstrous. 192

Personality

Aponia is calm, gentle, and compassionate, especially toward the sick, displaced, and imprisoned. Her instinct is to listen, comfort, and help others endure suffering rather than impose her will on their lives. 2 119 386

Her compassion is tempered by deep remorse. Having seen her attempts to change fate produce worse outcomes, she fears overstepping her role and historically treated Judgment as a curse. This experience makes her cautious about using her power for broad political or social control. 8 12 386

Despite her placid demeanor, Aponia is resolute when protecting people important to her. She openly opposed Elysia when she believed Ai Yue might be taken from the sanatorium, later repeatedly supported his projects and decisions, and ultimately declared her willingness to follow in his footsteps. 3 37 287

Abilities & Skills

Fate-Thread Perception

Aponia historically perceived other people's destinies as visible threads, allowing her to glimpse events ranging from the near future to the ends of their lives. 8 142

  • Could see clear fate threads extending from most individuals. 8
  • Could not see her own fate. 8
  • Elysia's fate threads were entirely absent from her sight. 8 164
  • Ai Yue's fate was initially vague and fragmented, then became completely unreadable after her Fusion Warrior surgery. 8
  • People who interact closely with Ai Yue gradually lose visible fate threads in her perception. 164
  • Eventually loses fate-thread sight altogether as Judgment changes and her mental power develops beyond its former limitations. 246

Judgment

Judgment was Aponia's original signature ability: commands and restrictions delivered through her words could compel actions or interfere with the target's behavior. 2

  • Can immobilize targets, including Fusion Warriors such as Sakura. 4
  • Can be placed on specific objects to produce defined effects. 14
  • Can strengthen or awaken deep potential in others, though its consequences may diverge severely from her intent. 12 142
  • Is ineffective against Elysia. 4 8
  • Can be filtered by Ai Yue's experimental Anti-Aponia Earmuffs, though their full effectiveness was never directly tested on her. 2
  • Later ceases to exist in its former form, freeing Aponia to use mental power more directly. 246

Mental Power

Aponia is regarded as humanity's strongest Mental Perception Fused Warrior, with power sufficient to overpower other psychics and contest mental-type Herrscher authorities. 29 79 203

  • Located the Eighth Herrscher through long-range mental perception. 29
  • Can remain conscious in a dream-based mental attack that would trap ordinary people. 29
  • Her mental reach can extend across most of Earth. 29
  • Suppressed the Eighth Herrscher within the mental domain. 203
  • Can conduct long-distance searches and communication, though extensive searches significantly drain her mental power. 9 119
  • Can transmit memories and assist others in understanding or manifesting mental power. 107 144 145

Illusions and Mental Fields

Aponia can construct and maintain highly detailed mental environments, as well as manipulate perception without relying on direct verbal commands. 140 142 247

  • Created an intricate Twilight Street illusion within her own mental domain while in a coma-like state. 140 141
  • Concealed her room from most visitors by causing them to subconsciously believe that no room existed there. 140
  • Formed a self-sealing mental “shell” to contain herself and prevent her powers from endangering others while unconscious. 140
  • Can generate a passive mental field that deflects attention, allowing herself and Ai Yue to move through crowds without being recognized or remembered. 246 247

Power of Light

Aponia briefly received and resonated with the Power of Light during the final battle, producing the Radiant Giant state. 247

  • In that state, subconsciously suppressed the Herrscher of the End's mental power and controlled her body. 247
  • The experience broke the internal restrictions that had limited Judgment. 247
  • Further experimentation is dangerous; Ai Yue warns that improper use could reduce her to a purely mental body. 247
  • Her later resonance raises her spiritual cultivation to a level Ai Yue cannot completely gauge. 386

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Mental communication statue — A small statue given to Ai Yue as a protective charm and medium for long-distance mental communication. 9
  • Ring — A ring containing no applied Judgment, given to Ai Yue as an expression of Aponia's expectation and friendship. 14
  • Taisu Armor — The third armor in Ai Yue's “Five States of Heaven” series; functions as a mobile fortress with major defensive and mental-power support systems. 70
    • Iron Curtain Mode — External plates float in a cross formation around Aponia to shield her from attacks. 70
    • Mental Energy Conversion Device — Converts mental energy into a tangible defensive barrier. 70
  • Eighth Divine Key — Used while sustaining a mental defense network during the aberration crisis. 192
  • Mental-support throne — A spacecraft-mounted enhancement platform that improves the precision of her mental output and uses mental-assisted targeting for ship weapons. 225

Relationships

  • Ai Yue — Her closest ally and the person whose arrival transformed the sanatorium's fate. She trusts his judgment, protects his well-being, and is deeply devoted to him. 2 47 142 287
  • Elysia — A friend and fellow Fusion Warrior immune to Judgment and fate-thread perception. Elysia's immunity helped reveal the limits of Aponia's abilities. 4 8 37
  • Mobius — A fellow researcher and frequent collaborator in mental-power and Stigmata research. Aponia helps Mobius identify and manifest her altered mental properties. 88 144 145

  • Kalpas — A volatile prisoner of The Deepest Place whom Aponia is assigned to help stabilize; he openly resents Judgment. 4 9 14
  • Pardofelis — A younger associate who calls her “Sister Nia.” Aponia tries to prevent her from recklessly traveling alone to find Ai Yue. 119
  • Mother Maria — A formative influence in Aponia's past; Maria's words inspire the younger Aponia to continue helping the homeless and sick. 141
  • The children of Twilight Street — Aponia sheltered and cared for children and Honkai Sickness patients through the church-sanatorium. 2 9 141

Story Role / Major Arcs

Twilight Street and Moth to Fire

Aponia operates the Twilight Street sanatorium and becomes Ai Yue's first major ally after he provides Honkai Energy Absorbers for her patients. When Elysia and Sakura investigate the sanatorium, Aponia refuses to let them take Ai Yue away, demonstrating how indispensable she considers him to the people under her care. 2 3

She subsequently enters Moth to Fire with Ai Yue's group and volunteers for Fusion Warrior surgery. The surgery strengthens her fate perception, but also leaves her unable to see Ai Yue's destiny at all. 6 7 8

The Deepest Place and the Eighth Herrscher

Ai Yue asks Aponia to use Judgment to help stabilize The Deepest Place after Kalpas is imprisoned there. She also gives Ai Yue a statue that enables long-distance mental contact. 9 14

During the Eighth Herrscher crisis, Aponia serves as the operation's central psychic asset. Her perception locates the Herrscher, while her mental strength allows her to resist the dream-domain threat and support the plan to eliminate it. 29

The Will Fragment Experiment

Aponia willingly examines a dangerous Will Fragment at Ai Yue's request, despite being explicitly given the option to refuse. The experiment causes severe pain and a temporary loss of control, showing both the risks of mental research and her resolve to support Ai Yue's efforts against the Honkai. 87

The Eleventh Herrscher and the Twilight Street Illusion

After exhausting herself in the final battle and being affected by the Herrscher's authority, Aponia enters a coma-like state inside a self-imposed mental barrier. Ai Yue enters her recreated Twilight Street mental world, encounters a younger version of her, and helps her confront the roots of her compassion and guilt. 140 141

Aponia later admits that she consciously created the illusion partly to spend more time with Ai Yue, risking permanent sleep if he did not return for her. 142

Liberation from Judgment

Following the final battle, Aponia loses the ability to see fate threads and says that Judgment no longer exists in its previous form. Rather than weakening her, this removes a restraint on her mental power and allows more refined applications, including perception-deflection fields and broader mental-domain control. 246 247

Timeline Protection and Dreamscape Leadership

Aponia agrees to remain behind to protect the Pre-Civilization timeline, as her mental power is uniquely suited to withstand the burden of monitoring it. 288 301

Later, Ai Yue entrusts her with establishing the rules of Penacony's expanding dreamscape. Though burdened by the memory of past mistakes, Aponia accepts the opportunity to lead a project on her own terms. 386
