Background / History
Origins and the first path
Chen Meiyu inherited the First Generation Divine Seed’s legacy and participated in a long-term scheme to establish an independent world for monsters. She created the Deceivers, spread the faith-based method of becoming immortal, and manipulated Red Eye’s daughter into gathering the power of the Old Gods. She also worked with the Human Emperor Xuan Xi in the plan to harvest divine power. 874
Her intended “first path” was to pour the accumulated divine power into Chen Nan, have him absorb the ground’s vitality, seal the Abyss, and create a self-contained world beyond the influence of the realm’s Heavenly Dao. In that world, Chen Nan would become its governing force while Chen Meiyu would control its rules. 879
Despite being treated as a monster or a clone by Red Eye, Chen Meiyu rejects the identity imposed on her. She considers godhood a form of annihilation: immense power gained at the cost of one’s memories, emotions, and self. 738 789
Four Seasons Valley
Before returning to Chen Family Village, Chen Meiyu operated secretly within Four Seasons Valley. She used a concealed passage through the man-eating ant nest and knew individual patrol ants well enough to notice when replacements indicated deaths elsewhere in the colony. She protected herself from the ants by applying powder that dulled their sense of smell. 475
When Jiang You prepared to destroy Four Seasons Valley, Chen Meiyu urgently intervened. She revealed that man-eating ants had hollowed out the mine, cultivation base, and research center; damaging those structures could destroy the nest and unleash a catastrophic swarm. 375
She later agreed to exchange Four Seasons Valley’s secrets for Jiang You’s help locating a lost pill formula. Her desperation for that formula led her to violently question Shangguan Ling, accidentally killing him. 375 373
Chen Family Village
Chen Meiyu returned to Chen Family Village after Four Seasons Valley’s collapse. She warned Jiang You that the village’s curse transformed its residents into monsters and that entering after dark was deadly, though Jiang You distrusted the warning and pursued the stone tablet paintings anyway. 584
Her relationship with Chen Nan is outwardly that of an affectionate elder sister and younger brother. She is deeply protective of him, pleading with Jiang You not to harm him after finding him transformed into an experimental subject. 566 However, Chen Nan’s obsession with making her immortal clashes with her own fear of losing herself. 583
The God Manipulator plan
Chen Meiyu eventually disclosed that she did not seek godhood for herself. Instead, she wanted to become a God Manipulator—creating a god while remaining an independent person. 789
Her plan used Chen Nan’s devotion as its foundation. By making herself the object of his deepest obsession, she ensured that he would sacrifice himself and accept ascension for her sake. Once Chen Nan became Snake Bone, she bound him through a shared-life contract and became the one directing him. 866 869
The plan’s cruelty is exposed by its treatment of Chen Family Village’s residents as ritual components and by Chen Nan’s intended role as both god and vessel. Jiang You ultimately recognizes that Chen Meiyu had shaped Chen Nan’s loyalty over a long period to make this outcome possible. 866 874
Appearance
Chen Meiyu can radically alter her appearance through a man-eating-ant-derived transformation. Her earlier Four Seasons Valley identity was that of a towering, muscular woman; her usual later form is a pale, slender beauty with a gentle demeanor. 583 584
- In her robust disguise, she stands about 1.8 meters tall, weighs over 180 jin, and carries herself like a powerful warrior. 384 583
- In her usual form, she is around 1.6 meters tall, thin, fair-skinned, and outwardly frail. 583
- Her eyes are consistently described as gentle and rational even when her physical appearance is deliberately rough or intimidating. 584
- Following her contract with Chen Nan, she wears a moon-colored long dress associated with Snake Bone’s protection. 869
Personality
Chen Meiyu presents herself as sincere, gentle, and considerate. She encourages Zhang Shuhui to value her own individuality, sincerely calling her special rather than agreeing to a dangerous transformation. 610 She also shows genuine concern for Jiang You when warning her away from Chen Family Village. 584
Beneath this warmth is a highly secretive and calculating character. Jiang You recognizes that Chen Meiyu’s apparently straightforward and careless behavior is a façade; she hides information, weighs alliances pragmatically, and acts only when her interests demand it. 373 736
Her central conviction is that she must remain herself. She refuses to become a god if doing so would erase Chen Meiyu’s identity, memories, and emotions, even while pursuing control over a god of her own creation. 738 789
