Background / History
Tang San is initially described as a transmigrator from a martial-arts world resembling ancient China. Orphaned in that life, he was raised by the Tang Sect and indoctrinated with reverence for “Heaven, Earth, Sovereign, Parents, Teacher,” shaping his deep loyalty to imperial authority and inherited institutions 194.
His publicly revealed first Martial Soul is Blue Silver Grass, which causes him considerable insecurity because it is considered a “trash” Martial Soul. Li Yuan later identifies it as the Blue Silver Emperor inherited from Tang San’s mother, Ah Yin, explaining Tang San’s Innate Full Soul Power and rapid cultivation 81. Tang San is also the son of Tang Hao, whose Clear Sky Hammer lineage grants him a second Martial Soul 92 216.
After a two-year period of training with Tang Hao, Tang San’s Blue Silver Grass evolves into the Blue Silver Emperor. Tang Hao then directs him toward the City of Slaughter and the Hell Road in pursuit of the Slaughter God’s Domain 256.
Li Yuan later reconstructs a different explanation for Tang San’s apparent transmigration: Tang San may have originally been a native soul of the Douluo plane, preserved by the plane consciousness after his former death and reborn with his prior memories as its chosen Child of the Plane 357.
Appearance
Following Tang Hao’s two years of training, Tang San undergoes a marked physical transformation and becomes notably more handsome 256.
- His Eight Spider Lances manifest as eight dark-purple, barbed spider legs from his back; each is over four meters long and spear-tipped 201.
- Under Evil God control, his physical appearance changes little, but his eyes lose all spirit and his aura resembles that of an Evil God cultist 345.
Personality
Tang San is strategic, observant, and capable of quickly adapting in combat. He avoids killing Huo Wu during the tournament because doing so could harm his team’s standing, and he responds decisively when trapped in the Heaven Dou Imperial Palace 215 283.
His attachment to Xiao Wu is a defining motive. He repeatedly risks himself to protect her, including throwing her beyond an incoming barrage of attacks while accepting the damage himself 276 277. Her apparent death drives his determination to seek both her revival and revenge against Martial Soul Hall 279.
He can also be overconfident. Believing Hu Liena retained feelings for him from the City of Slaughter, Tang San approaches a Martial Soul Hall camp expecting to exploit that connection for intelligence, only to be identified and attacked as a wanted criminal 274 275.
Abilities & Skills
Blue Silver Emperor
Tang San’s first Martial Soul is initially presented as Blue Silver Grass but later evolves into the Blue Silver Emperor, a bloodline inherited from Ah Yin 81 256.
- Uses Blue Silver Grass for restraint, binding opponents and creating Spider Web Restraint barriers 71 215.
- Activates the Blue Silver Domain to travel through the Star Dou Great Forest with little obstruction and mask fluctuations in his Mental Power 274.
- Uses the grass together with his Spider Lances to launch himself and Xiao Wu through enemy encirclement 277.
Clear Sky Hammer
Tang San’s second Martial Soul is the Clear Sky Hammer, the inherited Weapon Martial Soul of the Clear Sky Sect 216.
- Reveals it to counter Huo Wu’s Ring Fusion-enhanced Blazing Sun, allowing him to absorb most of the attack’s force 216.
- Employs the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer technique against Feng Xiaotian’s Gale Demon Wolf Thirty-Six Consecutive Slashes 216.
- Uses it alongside killing intent to break the combined aura lock of Martial Soul Hall experts 277.
Tang Sect Techniques
Tang San retains and applies techniques from his former Tang Sect training 194.
- Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track — escapes the aura lock and encirclement of four Soul Sages 275.
- Mysterious Heaven Skill — provides protective effects that reduce damage from Huo Wu’s explosion 216.
- Mysterious Jade Hand — blocks several consecutive slashes from Feng Xiaotian, though the strain numbs Tang San’s arms 216.
- Hidden weapons and poison — his poisoned hidden weapons can incapacitate or kill Soul Sages once they penetrate defenses 275 277.
Eight Spider Lances
Tang San possesses the Eight Spider Lances, an External Spirit Bone gained from a Man Faced Demon Spider 201 277.
- Functions as a set of long, barbed piercing limbs in direct combat 201.
- Supplements his mobility and is used alongside Blue Silver Grass to propel himself through attacks 277.
- Its distinctive appearance helps Martial Soul Hall elites identify him despite his altered appearance 275.
Slaughter God’s Domain
Tang San wields the Slaughter God’s Domain, which releases a cold, bloodthirsty aura 275.
- Breaks the oppressive aura lock imposed by four Martial Soul Hall Soul Sages 275.
- Is used in tandem with the Blue Silver Domain, Spirit Bone, Soul Skills, and hidden weapons during his attempted escape 275 286.
Sea God Inheritance
Bo Saixi offers Tang San the Sea God Divine Position without requiring him to complete trials 312.
- After receiving the inheritance, he wields the Sea God’s Trident 346.
- Uses the third form of the Thirteen Halberds of the Sea God, Irreversible 346.
- Evil God corruption later alters the technique into a darker and more powerful version 346.
Evil God Corruption
Tang San is later controlled by Evil God power and used as a vessel for Karl 345 360.
- Gains transcendent-level strength and fights with an eerie black spear before later using the Sea God’s Trident 345 346.
- Possesses Evil God cultist-like resilience: unless his physical body is completely destroyed, ordinary wounds cannot kill him 346.
- His suppressed soul eventually awakens through Ah Yin’s influence and interferes with Karl’s control, helping create the opening needed to expel Karl 361.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Ruyi Bag of Treasures — Soul Tool carried at Tang San’s waist; it holds Xiao Wu after she becomes a rabbit, making it the focus of enemy artillery attacks during his escape 286.
- Hidden weapons — Tang Sect weapons frequently coated in potent poison 275 277.
- Silver needle — used in an attempt to draw Emperor Xue Ye’s blood and identify the poison affecting him 283.
- Gold token — given by Qian Renxue; Tang San uses it to gain access to Emperor Xue Ye’s quarters 281.
Relationships
- Tang Hao — father and mentor; trains Tang San for two years and later attempts to buy time for his escape despite his crippled cultivation 256 287.
- Ah Yin — mother and source of his Blue Silver Emperor bloodline; her awakened aura later helps rouse Tang San’s suppressed soul 81 361.
- Xiao Wu — romantic partner and chief motivation for many of his actions; both attempt to sacrifice themselves to save the other during the Star Dou crisis 276 277.
- Dai Mubai — former Shrek companion; Tang San seeks refuge with him in the Star Luo Empire and later travels with him to Sea God Island 289 310.
- Yang Wudi — Tang Sect Medicine Hall head and loyal subordinate; sacrifices himself to cover Tang San’s escape from the Heaven Dou Imperial Palace 281 285 286.
- Dugu Bo — trusted ally whom Tang San calls “brother”; their bond is strained when Dugu Bo prioritizes Dugu Yan’s safety over aiding Tang San 279 283.
- Li Yuan — political rival and recurring enemy; repeatedly manipulates Tang San’s circumstances, frames him for assassinating Emperor Xue Ye, destroys the Tang Sect, and later joins Qian Renxue against Evil God-controlled Tang San 283 289 345.
- Hu Liena — Tang San mistakenly believes she remembers him as Tang Yin and has feelings for him; she instead attacks him as a suspected Clear Sky Sect terrorist 274 275.
- Clear Sky Sect elders — accept Tang San’s return to the sect and assign conditions intended to cultivate him as a future Sect Master 272 273.
