Background / History

Sōgetsu participated in the Chūnin Exams alongside Sarutobi Hoshino and Akiyama Kōtarō. During the second stage, he fought Kumogakure’s Yamashiro Renbu, using his Sharingan to perceive an opening and launch Fire Style attacks. When Renbu and Pachira endangered Hoshino, Sōgetsu used Double Tomoe Sharingan Genjutsu to immobilize both opponents, though the strain temporarily depleted his dōjutsu power. 74 75

After Hoshino’s death, Sōgetsu’s hostility toward the Cloud ninja—particularly Darui and Roi—became the central force behind his actions. He defeated Darui in the Chūnin Exam tournament, but Darui’s surrender prevented him from delivering a killing blow. The frustration triggered the evolution of Sōgetsu’s Sharingan. He was subsequently promoted to Chūnin. 87 88 91

Sōgetsu refused an invitation to join the Konoha Military Police Force because he wanted to pursue vengeance for Hoshino. When his original squad dissolved following Hoshino’s death, Kōtarō’s hospitalization, and Yūhi Magaki’s reassignment, he instead joined Minato Namikaze’s squad alongside Veigar and Kakashi Hatake. 99 103

He later accepted recruitment into the Anbu with Veigar, receiving the codename Grudge. Shimura Danzō secretly ordered Root operatives to kill Sōgetsu and seize his Sharingan, but Veigar warned him of the plot. Sōgetsu called upon Clan Head Uchiha Tomie, helping expose Danzō’s scheme. Personality

Sōgetsu is proud, competitive, and highly conscious of his Uchiha heritage. Although he appreciates Veigar saving Hoshino, he resents being overshadowed and acts quickly to reclaim the initiative in battle. 75

Hoshino’s death leaves him consumed by vengeance toward the Cloud ninja. His rage is directed not only at Darui and Roi, but also at himself for failing to protect his teammate and failing to kill Darui when he had the chance. 87 88 99

Despite his impulsiveness, Sōgetsu can make clear tactical decisions under pressure. He abandons a favorable individual matchup to help Kakashi eliminate another opponent, and later resolves to shield both Kakashi and Veigar from a lethal attack. 114 116 He is also notably shy and anxious during an Anbu mission through a pleasure district. 132
