Background
Qin Shuang descends from a family of meritorious officials whose ancestors helped the Martial Emperor establish Great Shang. His family inherited a hereditary Dragon Guard position, continuing its service to the throne. 1
At seven, he became a disciple of the Old Man of Three Absolutes. Over nine years, he learned the Heavenly Frost Fist, Frost Steps on Thin Ice, and Heavenly Frost Qi. He returned to Chaoge at sixteen and spent the following two years serving in the Dragon Guard. 1 2
He also trained relentlessly in the Dragon Guard's Dream Slaying Saber Technique. Separately, an unidentified masked figure secretly taught him the Innate Formless Divine Art and Innate Formless Finger Sword; Qin Shuang concealed this instruction as a personal trump card. 2 18
Appearance
Qin Shuang is a tall, straight-built young man with sharply defined features and deep, dark jade-like eyes. 1
- Usually wears the Dragon Guard's black cloud-brocade uniform, distinguished by colored embroidered trim according to rank. 1
- As a Garrison General, he wears blue-trimmed black brocade and carries twin sabers at his waist. 43
- His left eye was burned by the Fire Qilin's blood in Lingyun Cave, but later recovered after he obtained medicinal fruit. 33 38
Personality
Qin Shuang is confident and competitive, often treating formidable opponents as opportunities to temper his Martial Way. Even while at Postnatal Peak, he fought the Four Great Evils without retreating and enjoyed the pressure of facing worthy enemies. 20
He values character over raw martial talent. When recruiting Kou Zhong and Xu Ziling, he emphasized their integrity, brotherhood, and refusal to abuse Dragon Guard authority rather than their cultivation. 10
As a commander, Qin Shuang is decisive and severe about discipline. He executed Qu Xiu for rape under Dragon Guard military law, but later spared surrendering Imperial Guards and protected civilians from corrupt officials and bandits. 17 21 29
He is deeply protective of those he considers family or comrades. This is shown in his rescue of Qin Sirong, his defense of Cheng Lingsu, and his willingness to aid Nie Feng's search for his missing father. 21 32 38 39
Abilities & Skills
Innate Formless Divine Art
A secret internal art taught by Qin Shuang's masked teacher. It gives him unusually deep, self-regenerating internal energy and serves as the foundation for his most versatile techniques. 2 23
- Allows him to mimic martial arts after observing them and amplify their power beyond their normal compatible cultivation methods. 24
- Sustains him in prolonged combat; his internal energy continuously regenerates and grows stronger through use. 23
- Enhances his saber techniques, fist techniques, movement arts, and Thirty-Six Routes of Heaven-Overturning Marvel. 24 41
- Its ultimate potential—instant mastery of any observed martial art—is described as a result of cultivating it to the highest level, not a level Qin Shuang is confirmed to have reached. 24
Heavenly Frost Fist
One of the Old Man of Three Absolutes' signature arts, learned alongside Heavenly Frost Qi and Frost Steps on Thin Ice. 2
- Produces intensely cold fist force capable of freezing enemies into ice sculptures. 4 5
- Includes techniques such as Frost and Snow Dance, which froze an assassin and shattered him upon impact. 5
- Used effectively in close-quarters combat against Yue Canglong and other Innate-level opponents. 20
- Its accompanying footwork is useful for short-range evasion but was insufficient for Qin Shuang's desired absolute speed. 31
Dream Slaying Saber Technique
The Dragon Guard's inherited dual-saber art and Qin Shuang's primary weapon discipline. He continually refined it through duels and life-or-death battles. 2 11 36
- Uses paired long and short sabers in a combination of broad, forceful offense and swift, precise killing strokes. 36
- Notable forms include Vermilion Bird Slash, Suppressing Gluttony, Kun Peng Leap, Vermilion Bird Drinks the Sun, and Tiger Wing Style. 11 17
- Its ultimate move, Hidden Dragon's Night Dance, destroyed the Rope Trickster's weapons and killed him. 36
- Qin Shuang views the technique as an expression of the Dragon Guard's duty to protect the state and common people. 36
Mocking Wind's Howl
A hereditary Dragon Guard secret technique that temporarily places its user in a mysterious combat state. 11
- Greatly improves Qin Shuang's control and output when using the Dream Slaying Saber Technique. 11 24
- Can be layered with the Innate Formless Divine Art for overwhelming offensive power. 24
- Its use contributed to the destruction of Yong'an during his duel with Heng Feijing. 11
Innate Formless Finger Sword
A formless sword art that channels internal energy from the fingertips as sharp sword qi. It was taught to Qin Shuang by his masked teacher. 18
- Hegemonic Sword — a devastating thumb-strike sword qi; used to kill Wen Fang Shi and wound Long Xiling. 18 23
- Righteous Sword — finger sword qi used for direct exchanges and deflection. 18 20
- Soft Sword — flexible sword qi used to entangle weapons or strike unpredictably. 20
- Flick Sword and Toe Sword — rapid, unconventional sword-qi attacks for pursuit and surprise strikes. 18 20
- Let Qin Shuang contend with multiple enemies at once, including the Four Great Evils. 20
Body-Shattering Formless Sword Qi
A powerful Innate Realm technique Qin Shuang comprehended after his breakthrough. 30 31
- Creates formless sword qi that tears through the void and strikes from unexpected angles. 30
- Instantly overwhelmed Sha Tongtian and crushed the Yellow River Gang's remaining resistance. 30
- Functions as Qin Shuang's principal long-range killing technique. 31
Wind God's Leg
A top-tier movement art from the same lineage as the Heavenly Frost Fist. Qin Shuang had observed its forms while studying under the Old Man of Three Absolutes and later received its cultivation manual through Yang Yuncong. 31 40
- Rapidly learned due to his prior foundation in the art's movements and shared lineage with his frost techniques. 31 40
- Mastered five transformations within half a month. 41
- Catching Wind and Shadow grants phantom-like speed and lets him rapidly close distance against stronger opponents. 44
Thirty-Six Routes of Heaven-Overturning Marvel
An unorthodox internal martial art given to Qin Shuang by his masked teacher. It uses qi as spirit, intent as body, and form as application. 40 41
- Contains thirty-six transformations rather than fixed moves or forms. 41
- Can be integrated into punches, palms, claws, kicks, or weapons. 41
- Qin Shuang mastered five transformations in half a month. 41
- Used Great Skill Appears Clumsy, Marvel Hidden Within and Shattering Violent Collapse Marvelous Killing Chain to suppress and drive back Di Feijing. 42
Dragon Guard Secret Arts
- Swan Goose Treading Snow — a hereditary technique that briefly places Qin Shuang in a “dustless” state, increasing speed and evasive ability. 36
- Investigation and command — Qin Shuang quickly identified the core figures behind the Black Cloud Stronghold case, organized infiltrations and arrests, and assigned tasks according to his subordinates' strengths. 7 38
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Yong'an and Changning — Qin Shuang's earlier dual sabers; Yong'an shattered during his duel with Heng Feijing. 11
- Sorrow Dispeller and Hatred Severer — standard Dragon Guard dual blades issued after he became a Squad Leader. 12
- State Stabilizer and Barbarian Breaker — his later signature twin sabers, used during the Black Stone conflict and while serving as Garrison General. 35 36 43
- Blood Bodhi — strange red fruits gathered from Lingyun Cave; they heal injuries and enhance internal energy. Qin Shuang later distributed them to allies and subordinates. 34 35 38

- Lesser Restoration Pills — cultivation resources awarded to Qin Shuang's force, which he shared with his team. 26

- Masked Teacher — An unidentified master who secretly taught him the Innate Formless arts and later gave him Thirty-Six Routes of Heaven-Overturning Marvel. 2 40

- Heng Feijing — Rival-turned-subordinate. Their duel ended in a draw and advanced both men to Postnatal Peak; Heng later joined Qin Shuang's squad. 11 12
- Kou Zhong and Xu Ziling — Recruited by Qin Shuang because he trusted their character and brotherhood. They later fought beside him and searched for him after the inner-river ambush. 10 28
- Cheng Lingsu — Poison expert and trusted ally. Qin Shuang defended her when her senior disciples placed her under house arrest and vowed that no one could bully her. 9 38 39
- Lei Chun / Tian Chun — A woman Qin Shuang helped rescue from the Seven Fiends of Pu River; she later saved him after the inner-river ambush. Her identity as Lei Sun's daughter and Su Mengzhen's fiancée creates distance between them. 7 28 29
