Background / History

Jiang Xiaoyu was born into a concubine branch of the Jiang family, one of the 216 hereditary families serving the Great Shang Dynasty's Dragon Guard. After his parents met with misfortune, he was raised in the household of his uncle, Jiang Biehe. Rather than surrendering to his disadvantaged position, he trained diligently and passed the Dragon Guard assessment through his own efforts. 1

He and Qin Shuang served in the Yu Unit's Divine Department, which handled investigation, arrest, interrogation, and casework. By the time Qin Shuang pursued promotion to Squad Leader, Jiang Xiaoyu was already one of his closest companions. 1 8

When Qin Shuang began building a team, Jiang Xiaoyu assisted with recruitment. He accompanied Qin Shuang in recruiting Guo Jing, Yang Kang, Cheng Lingsu, Kou Zhong, and Xu Ziling, and personally recommended Heng Feijing as a prospective member. 8 9 10 He later sparred with Huai Mie and was appointed one of Qin Shuang's Squad Leaders. 13

During the conflict over Cheng Lingsu's house arrest, Jiang Xiaoyu waited five days for Qin Shuang's return rather than acting independently against the Cosmos Unit. Though Qin Shuang rebuked his hesitation, Jiang Xiaoyu committed to following Qin Shuang's decision and helped force their way into Cheng Lingsu's courtyard. 37 38
