Entrance to the Hive Base
No one mentioned the little incident at the Gun Store. Jill Valentine, however, took a rope and tied it to the waist of the Green Arrow Duck, giving her and Alice something to hold onto. This was much better than having to hold onto the doll's waist and its Duck Butt.
Green Arrow Duck didn't object to such minor modifications, as long as it didn't impair the armor's functionality.
Guided by Jill Valentine and aided by Alice's memories, the group finally found the entrance to the Umbrella Corporation's Hive Base around 10 p. m.
Alice went straight to a Alloy Door inside the mansion and shone her flashlight on a Cable Interface with its cover open next to the door.
"This is the entrance to the underground base, but I don't know how to open it. Previously, Umbrella's security forces opened this door using Personal Computer."
Jill Valentine, who had some knowledge of computer equipment, glanced at it, frowned, and asked, "This isn't an SB interface. Is it some kind of Umbrella Corporation proprietary specification?"
"A quick scan with Green Arrow Duck will tell you what that thing is. It's not for Umbrella Corporation; it's just a standard YPE-B square connector. It's different from the more common Flat USB Connector. It's mainly used in printers and scanners."
Using equipment with International Standard Specifications has the advantage of low cost in mass production. If Umbrella really had its own specifications for every piece of equipment, while it would greatly prevent unauthorized intrusion, the high cost would be a major drawback.
"Then you..." Jill hadn't finished asking when several extremely thin wires extended from Green Arrow Duck's fingertips, connected to the square interface, and began the work of cracking it.
"You can open it..." Before Alice could finish her question, the alloy door automatically opened to the left and right.
"Luckily, there's still power here. If there wasn't any power, we'd have to blow up the door." Green Arrow Duck retracted the cable and said casually. The computer system used by Umbrella Corporation is like a common problem for all large corporations. When it was set up, it might have been the most cutting-edge hardware and the best software of its time. But these things will become outdated, especially in the information industry that follows Moore's Law.
With the existing hardware still usable, the software upgrades had limited capabilities, not to mention that Green Arrow Duck had to crack it through the Quantum Computer behind the girl. The door opened almost effortlessly. And in that short time, the girl also managed to get a general idea of Hive Base's layout. The reason she hadn't explored it all was because the entire base consisted of many Physical Isolation computer systems.
The idea of using Hacker techniques and the Electronic Lock interface of the main gate to copy all the computer data of the Hive Base is pure wishful thinking. If Green Arrow Duck wants the core data, he has to infiltrate the base.
Looking at the open Alloy Door, Alice and Jill Valentine, as if they knew nothing of fear, picked up their weapons, checked that they were loaded, and were about to walk inside.
If Green Arrow Duck was even a step slower, he'd get a glare from them. "What? You're not going to tell us you're scared once the door's open?"
"I'm the one wearing full armor, unafraid of being bitten. Are you all rushing in to your deaths?"
Although she drew the shotgun from her back, Alice showed little sign of wariness.
"There are no Zombies ahead. What If...? you need to find research data, you'll have to go deeper into the base; you might even have to go to the Red Queen's Mainframe Area. It's a long way, so you'll have to be quick if you want to get in and out fast."
Green Arrow Duck didn't say anything, but raised his hand and fired a shot. The two women were startled, and when they realized that neither of them was injured, they turned to look down the stairwell. Sure enough, there was a Zombies with its head split open, lying on the lower staircase.
Zombies, both male and female, emerged from the passageway one after another, moving slowly.
Encountering such Monster on the street might be manageable by taking a detour. But in a narrow indoor passage, there's no room to detour, so you have no choice but to force your way through.
"Let me ask you something," Green Arrow Duck hesitated to fire his second shot, instead asking Alice, "There aren't any living people left in the underground base, are there?" Alice replied decisively, "There can't be any living people left. The virus initially leaked here and contaminated the entire Hive Base through the air circulation system."
"Even if some people can avoid infection by the airborne virus, they can't escape the bites of these bio- Monster. Ultimately, they'll either be devoured beyond recognition or become one of them," Jill Valentine concluded immediately. "So, anything moving you see down there can be killed on the spot."
The Green Arrow Duck moved even faster than the two women. With Artificial Intelligence capturing and aiming, combined with the high precision of the Railgun, it could kill the Zombies that crawled out with a single shot to the head.
Because the primary targets are the cerebellum and medulla oblongata, most shooting angles will take away the rotten teeth and mouth along with the zombie. As a result, many Zombies are decapitated and become headless corpses.
Fortunately, these people were infected with the virus, not parasites. Smashing their heads would kill the hosts immediately, preventing the emergence of strange, tentacle-like organs from their necks.
Before the two women could even aim and fire, the Green Arrow Duck had wiped out the Zombies that had run out. He squeezed through the two women, pushing aside Alice and Jill, who both looked resentful, and turned back to them, saying, "Aren't you leaving? Are you scared out of your wits?"
Just as the two women were about to follow, they discovered that the Duck Plushie at the corner was suddenly pounced on by Zombies! However, these bio- Monster could not shake the Duck Leopard armor—Duck Type, and of course, their teeth and claws could not scratch the armor plates under the fluffy exterior.
The Green Arrow Duck showed no fear whatsoever; it simply grabbed the Zombies that pounced on it, twisted its head off, and then casually tossed it aside, as if it were just some trash.
After rounding the corner, a few more shots were fired. Green Arrow Duck cleared out all the Zombies within its field of vision.
Jill Valentine, who had followed behind, looked at the horrific state of the fallen Zombies and couldn't help but ask, "Was it really necessary? Just rip their heads off." Green Arrow Duck replied seriously, "It was necessary. Because the most important active organs of these bio- Monster are the brainstem and Spinal Cord. As long as these areas are destroyed, they will die completely."
"To avoid the possibility of them surviving a single shot, or being thought to be dead only to revive and ambush us when we least expect it, I'd rather put in the extra effort to make sure they're truly dead."
Jill Valentine recalled the earlier events. "But when you were on the street, you only dodged, you didn't kill any Monster. Why was that? With your shooting skills, you could have easily taken them out. Reduce the threat to innocent civilians."
"Because it's hard to distinguish between living people and Monster. What If...? I make a mistake, would you tolerate me killing innocent civilians who escaped? I don't want to do that either. Since it's hard to tell the difference, I might as well not try." Actually, Green Arrow Duck's Reconnaissance System could tell the difference, but it was too difficult to explain to these two women, so he didn't explain.
After all, one of the two is a policeman. If Jill Valentian wanted to check whether the people he killed on the street were Zombies or living people, he would still be stuck on the street and unable to escape.
That's why you asked if there are any living people down there.
"That's right. Anyway, now we can just shoot down anything that's moving, except for the three of us. Isn't it much easier to distinguish them this way?"
