Infiltrating the Hive Base
As he advanced through the Hive Base, Jill Valentine, who had never succeeded in stealing kills, grew increasingly frustrated and resentful.
She had been wielding two guns, but she had put one away and was now holding it with both hands. This allowed her to react and move faster. But even so, she still couldn't keep up with Green Arrow Duck's lightning-fast speed, which allowed him to slay the moment he appeared.
No matter which direction the Zombies came from, they couldn't escape being blown off their heads with a single shot from the Railgun. This was a true headshot, the kind that wipes out the entire head, or at least half of it, not just a bullet hole in the skull.
Everyone only realized there were Zombies when they saw Green Arrow Duck change the direction of his finger. By the time they tried to move their guns over, the zombies had already fired.
The only chance to get close to these life-eating Monster is to wait for them to suddenly appear around a corner.
Zombies certainly can't bite through tank-grade armor plates, and even in a contest of strength, they're no match for the Duck Leopard armor—Duck Type. They can't even pounce on the Duck Plushie; their heads will just be twisted off.
Occasionally, a creature's head isn't twisted off because when Green Arrow Duck reaches out to grab its head, it already crushes the creature's skull like a tomato, leaving its hand covered in brain matter and blood.
Alice was lazily carrying a shotgun and walking behind Green Arrow Duck with a bored expression, suddenly tensed up and looked around warily. "Watch out! I think something more terrifying is approaching."
Jill Valentine, on the other hand, was excited, looking around, eager to be the first to find what she called "something even more terrifying."
In fact, the Green Arrow Duck's reconnaissance system had already detected a Licker approaching from the ceiling. However, it didn't have a good shooting angle yet, so it didn't attack.
The same applies to the other Zombies. Once they get close enough to Green Arrow Duck, they are detected by the multi-detection system. With a good shooting angle, they are instantly headshot. So, the others don't get any kills; Green Arrow Duck steals them all.
Against a Licker, the Dumb Negasonic Teenage Warhead from the Finger Railgun are somewhat ineffective. It's precisely because the Negasonic Teenage Warhead are specially designed that Green Arrow Duck doesn't use ricochet shots to clear the area. Against artificially enhanced bio- Monster, Green Arrow Duck has double rows of firing ports on its Duck Butt.
Jill Valentine was stunned for a moment when she saw the Duck Plushie's new function. Just as she was pondering what the two rows of holes could be used for, a volley of short-range Multi-Directional Combat Rounds fired!
The Licker, who happened to crawl out from the ceiling around the corner, might not even have time to confirm the direction of the "meat chunk" before being hit by ten melee bullets in succession and blown to pieces.
Even the concrete passageways of the underground base couldn't withstand the explosion. Fortunately, the passageways didn't collapse; only some concrete chunks fell down.
Clearly, the Green Arrow Duck's restraint was worthwhile. Besides the fact that the impact points were specifically calculated, the fact that they didn't unleash a full-magazine volley of twenty rounds was also one of the reasons that this passage was preserved.
"That was a small missile!" Jill Valentian asked in surprise.
"Yes. It seems we don't need so many volleys to deal with this new Monster. We should be able to reduce the number by half." Green Arrow Duck walked to the only remaining part of the Licker, the tip of its tongue still twitching on the floor, and stomped it to pieces.
Speechless, Alice watched this scene, finally managing to utter a sentence. "It seems you weren't joking when you said you'd encountered this kind of Monster." "The one I saw before was captured alive by the X-Men. They didn't kill it, just removed its limbs and kept it as an experimental subject. Now that we've actually killed one, I have to say this Monster isn't as strong as I imagined."
"Let me ask you a question," Jill Valentian asked with a serious expression, though she lowered her gun. "Whom are you trying to target by creating this weapon?"
Seeing the expression on the suspended police officer's face, Green Arrow Duck didn't try to brush it off with a joke. Instead, he answered seriously, "Since around 1998, my adversaries have always been Vampires."
"I never intended to deal with humans, so you've never seen me in the news, have you? I only stopped this year when the U.S. government declared full-scale war on Vampires and took over this Secret Wars."
"It wasn't until today, when dealing with these Monster, that I donned my new uniform and took action. But I admit, these Monster are much easier to deal with than Vampires and Werewolves." Green Arrow Duck wasn't wrong. Most of the time he appeared, it was to deal with Vampires or Werewolves. Although he had fought against S.H.I.E.L.D.. field teams, he only used rubber bullets and stun grenades, without any intention of killing anyone.
The one wreaking havoc at the U.S. military's Alkali Lake Base was the Boar Mech, not the Green Arrow Duck. He was quite careful about which mech suit was suitable for which task.
"Vampires, huh?" Jill's expression softened, as if she accepted the statement. "Speaking of which, I've been living in Raccoon City for the past few years, and I've never seen Vampires or Werewolves here. People from other places say these Monster are pretty easy to deal with?"
"Whether it's strength or speed, they far surpass the Deadman we've encountered. Without targeted ammunition, Vampires and Werewolves are practically invincible. So do you really think they're easy to deal with?"
"But on a global scale, they aren't like rats, being driven and killed everywhere."
"Thank goodness for technological advancements. Before we got to this point, why didn't people even dare to face them directly, and why did they claim their stories were fabricated? Can you guess why?"
Alice didn't share Jill Valentine's concerns; she simply stepped past the two arguing men. "Whoever he's dealing with, killing these Zombies Monster today is a good thing. If you want to debate, do it another day."
Green Arrow Duck then asked Alice, "Do you know where we should find a mainframe with base research data?"
Alice, trying to recall the events, couldn't actually remember anything before the virus leak. She could only offer her advice based on her experience of entering the Hive Base with Umbrella's security forces.
"The upper level of the Hive Base houses office areas, restaurants, and other facilities, while the middle level contains the research center and laboratories. The bottom level contains the server Mainframe Area, as well as infrastructure such as motor equipment."
"We can check the offices first, but there are likely Zombies inside as well. There are quite a few administrative staff at the base, and they're relatively concentrated. Plus, the office areas have many blind spots, so entering those areas would be quite risky."
Green Arrow Duck, of course, wasn't worried about such a trivial matter. "I understand. I'll lead the way as usual, walking at the very front. I'll deal with the Zombies as best I can. However, I'll need your help keeping an eye on things while I'm hacking into the computers."
