An initial look through the offices
Upon reaching the office floor, Green Arrow Duck first emptied the nearest office. Inside, there was only one Zombies hiding behind a desk. It was probably a female employee who, unlike the others, hadn't tried to escape after the outbreak, but instead hid under the desk. However, she ultimately couldn't escape the fate of being infected and became one of the bio- Monster.
Zombies is irreversible because the body's organs, including the most vital brain, lose their original function under the virus's influence. Even if a vaccine to kill the virus is found, the damaged organs will not repair themselves. The person will die along with the virus, because the damage to their body is simply too great.
Only those early-stage infected individuals who haven't yet turned into Zombies and retain their sanity have a chance of being cured by the vaccine. That's why Green Arrow Duck fights these Zombies without any scruples.
Is there any chance of recovery in the early stages of conversion? As for the Green Arrow Duck, I haven't been able to test this yet, so I don't know the answer to this question.
After clearing out the office, Green Arrow Duck went to a computer. Although the underground base was under lockdown, the power supply was normal, which was good news for anyone planning to hack into the Umbrella Corporation's database.
"Gentlemen, please keep watch for me. I need to hack into the computer."
"Okay." Alice said without hesitation, gripping her shotgun and warily scanning her surroundings, especially the office's only entrance and exit. Jill Valentian, however, didn't seem as tense; instead, he looked at the Duck Plushie.
"Actually, you have the ability to detect those Monster, otherwise your reaction speed wouldn't be so much faster than mine. The only explanation is that you already knew about the Monster ' existence. You were just waiting for them to jump out on their own."
Instead of typing directly on the office keyboard, Green Arrow Duck connected to his target computer via an SB interface. He readily answered Jill's question, "Yes. With an infrared thermal imager, you can see the movement of Zombies behind some cover."
"So you already knew there were no threats in our vicinity?"
"There's one in the locked office on the left, and two on the right. There are also several moving around in the corridor thirteen meters away. I don't quite understand how Zombies lock onto their targets yet, but they're all heading in our direction. It could just be a coincidence."
Neither of the women were the type to back down. After hearing Green Arrow Duck's answer, they left the office, one on each side, to verify Duck Plushie's story. Green Arrow Duck certainly didn't intend to treat them as ornaments, tied to his belt, or held in his hands for protection. These two were fierce enough that they wouldn't be without a chance against the Licker in a head-on confrontation.
Moreover, with the enemy situation known, the Zombies lost the element of surprise in their attacks, making it even less likely for them to cause any trouble.
The biggest advantage of these Monster is that, like in a Shocker movie, they can launch surprise attacks. If you can see them from afar, even the dumbest person would know to turn and run, given Zombies slow movements.
Hacking into an employee's computer wasn't difficult. The operating system used was the latest IS_XP, a version released in 2001. For security reasons, vulnerability patches were implemented quite frequently, but against Hacker of Green Arrow Duck's caliber—a time traveler from the future—it was still no match. Without even needing an external operating system drive, Green Arrow Duck could directly access the computer using the system's built-in hidden administrator account. After changing the user account passwords and logging back into the employee's account, he gained access to the computer on the internal network.
However, the user privileges on this computer were limited, and it was restricted in many ways within the internal network. Green Arrow Duck could have found another executive's computer and cracked it using the same method. But he chose to connect directly to the server, crack the administrator privileges, and then cause trouble.
Information that is too easily obtained is indeed not important; it's mostly about the general affairs, procurement, and reimbursement of the Hive Base, or information about employee clocking in, working hours, and salaries.
If tax authorities like the IRS saw this, they'd be ecstatic. But it's not what Green Arrow Duck is looking for.
Although there was potentially valuable information such as personnel data, Green Arrow Duck tried to find some names he was familiar with, but either he couldn't find the person or he could only see some disguised information.
The real secret personnel data wasn't on the servers here. Even if someone wanted to use Hacker techniques to crack it, they couldn't create something out of nothing. Before leaving, Green Arrow Duck didn't forget to erase his electronic footprint. In fact, this task was even more troublesome than the previous hacking and intrusion. After everything was cleaned up, Green Arrow Duck walked to the office door and saw Alice and Jill Valentine returning together. "The situation is just as you said, there are only a few scattered Zombies hiding nearby," Jill complained, as if dissatisfied that after entering the Hive Base, the core of the Umbrella Corporation, she had only managed to get a few heads, not even enough to fill a palm.
"Did you find the information you were looking for?" Alice, with a clearer purpose, asked about the issue she was also concerned about.
Green Arrow Duck shook his head helplessly. "No, this is the administrative system's computer; it only has information about trivial matters concerning this base. I've hacked into the connected servers and other computers, and the situation is the same."
"So we have no choice but to keep digging deeper?" "It seems so. The computer data here is completely worthless, unless you're checking their accounts. It's just the usual daily necessities: how much a ballpoint pen cost, how many rolls of tape were used, and which employee received how much salary and bonuses."
"Alright, let's keep going. We'll be passing a restaurant next. I saw a lot of freezers there, filled with the clawed Monster we saw earlier. I don't know if any are left, or if they've all escaped. Anyway, be careful."
"Which way?" Although he needed Alice to guide him, Green Arrow Duck certainly wouldn't let her shield him with her body. He was fully armored; he could smash Zombies to pieces with his bare hands. Hiding behind a woman was hardly a reasonable thing to do.
As Alice took shotgun shells from her Gun sling and loaded them one by one, Alice pointed in a certain direction. "Go this way. There are stairs leading down to the restaurant."
Green Arrow Duck activated its Micro-hover System and moved forward silently. Its speed wasn't too fast, maintaining a pace that allowed the two women behind it to keep up, yet also ensuring it remained alert to its surroundings.
Just before going down the stairs, Green Arrow Duck stopped and looked at Alice with a strange expression.
"What's going on?" Because the Duck Plushie's face was so big, especially its cartoonish expression which was deliberately designed to be quite exaggerated, it was easy to spot at a glance. So Alice naturally received Green Arrow Duck's questioning message.
"There are a lot of Zombies in the restaurant. So be careful when you go down there."
