Saving Two People
"You... are you alright?" Jean Grey looked at the scene before her uncertainly.
Green Arrow Duck let go of the Rogue's hand, letting it fall back onto the hospital bed, then picked it up again. "Looks like he's really alright."
It's safe to say that even the Skrulls can't decipher the Kryptonian genes. Rogue's Mutants abilities can't be copied either, let alone used to harm himself.
Okay, but playing with a young girl's hand like this isn't quite right, especially with a group of people watching. Even though his true identity is hidden under the Duck Leopard armor—Duck Type, that's no excuse for taking liberties with others. Besides, it's somewhat like taking advantage of someone in a vulnerable state.
He gently placed Rogue's hand back on the bed; the matter of putting on gloves was no longer his concern. Green Arrow Duck was just about to pull the blankets back over himself when he suddenly heard Professor X shout, "Look at Rogue's face!"
Inside the X-Jet's cabin, the lighting was quite bright. While not quite at the level of a surgical room's shadowless lamp, some details were still visible. Rogue's complexion had returned to a rosy hue, her dark circles were gone, and even her night sweats had eased. This didn't mean the sweat on her face had completely disappeared, leaving her with clean, refreshed skin. But at least that pained expression was gone.
Jean Grey, Green Arrow Duck, and a few others who could read medical monitoring equipment all looked at the readings on the instruments. Rogue's heart rate and other numbers had all returned to normal levels, meaning he just hadn't woken up yet.
"Is everything back to normal?" asked Bonnie Mech, who had stepped out of the mech. Having spent so much time with Professor X, Bonnie naturally felt concerned about the X-Men members.
"It should be back to normal," concluded Jean Grey, the most authoritative person present.
Green Arrow Duck looked at his hand, which he thought hadn't served its purpose, and then at Rogue lying on the hospital bed. He felt like he had overlooked something, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it.
But a beeping sound came from nearby, reminding him that he still had work to do. "Anyway, it's good that everything's alright." He put his armor gloves back on and fastened the buckles tightly.
Putting the Rogue girl aside, the Mutants girl was naturally taken care of by her teachers. The machine that beeped was the bioreactor previously set up to produce Antiviral Serum. Bonnie and Bullhead were both beside Green Arrow Duck, watching him operate it.
"This is the Antidote. Can it be used directly?" Bullhead asked, not whether it could be used to save lives, but whether it could be inserted into the Canary Device to forcibly eliminate the virus within its range.
Green Arrow Duck divided the Antiviral Serum into two doses, one into an inhaler and the other into a syringe. He then went to the man who had recently turned into Zombies and was tied to the hospital bed.
Betty Thaddeus Ross and Gwen Stacy were more concerned about whether the Antiviral Serum would work. So, instead of paying attention to the girl from inside the X-Jet's cockpit, they went behind Green Arrow Duck to carefully observe the situation.
Alice remained seated at her computer, searching through numerous folders for information related to herself. Among them was the fact that she was a clone...
Green Arrow Duck first used an inhalation spray, spraying it all over the Zombies man's face and body. The effect... judging from the fact that this guy still wanted to bite the Duck Leopard armor—Duck Type, you can tell that you shouldn't have too high expectations for his rationality.
Next, an injection syringe was used to inject all the Antiviral Serum into the Zombies man's body.
The reason for this attempt is that this person has only recently undergone the transformation, and their organs have not yet been completely destroyed by the abnormal regeneration of the virus. In particular, the circulatory system is still functioning normally, and the brain tissue also appears to be normal, offering a chance for the Antiviral Serum to cure them.
What If...? it's Zombies that has undergone a longer transformation period, its brain has already turned from tofu into soy milk, and the functions of its internal organs have almost been lost. This injection will kill the virus, but the person will be beyond saving.
He was still struggling, making the chains binding him rattle loudly; his body also suffered many external injuries from the unrestrained use of force.
After being injected with the Antiviral Serum, the Zombies man's struggles gradually lessened. He no longer had that ferocious expression, trying to bite anyone who walked by.
Her cloudy eyes slowly regained their clarity, and she closed them, lying peacefully on the hospital bed as if she had fallen into a deep sleep. "The Antiviral Serum is working?" Betty Thaddeus Ross confirmed.
Green Arrow Duck was examining the Zombies man's various physical symptoms after the injection of Antiviral Serum and connecting him to a life monitoring device for observing the patient. "The Antiviral Serum is bound to work; after all, it's a result of Umbrella Corporation's virus-related research."
"But I don't know what would happen if it were injected into someone who had already turned into Zombies. Right now, this person seems to be in luck; their internal organs are still mostly functioning."
"Once the virus is completely eliminated from his body, he will have a chance to return to a normal life. However, some problems will probably be unavoidable. Although his internal organs will not suffer permanent damage, they will all be damaged."
"The fact that the spray method didn't work previously means that we need to conduct further research before we can encapsulate the Antiviral Serum in the Canary Device. I speculate that the nucleic acid vector Antiviral Serum cannot be exposed to air for too long."
Listening to Green Arrow Duck's explanation, Bullhead recalled the situation downstairs. "Actually, you also wanted to save this man, but you weren't confident you could bring him back, so you didn't make any promises to his daughter, right?"
Green Arrow Duck made no secret of his thoughts. "I only do things I'm confident about, and I only say things I'm confident about. Even if this person can't be saved, he'll still be a qualified Umbrella the Antiviral Serum experiment."
"He survived, his life was practically a gift. If I gave someone hope first, and then said I couldn't deliver, wouldn't that be even more upsetting? Rather than that, it's better not to make grand promises in the first place."
"Speaking of Spider-Man, I've been back for so long, and I've saved two people. Even if he's hidden deep in the mountains, he should still be able to receive our signal."
Green Arrow Duck finally remembered the Spider-Man that had been nowhere to be seen.
Bonnie, dressed as a bunny girl, said matter-of-factly, "That little guy is so noisy, he never stops even on the comms channel. He reports almost everything, even what he thinks of a Zombies and what it looks like."
"With everyone's permission, I temporarily muted his channel. This was to prevent us from missing other people's messages or deterring those who need help from speaking up. After receiving your message, I notified Spider-Man to come back and updated him on the progress, then muted him again. But he still hasn't returned, and I don't know why."
... Would this be considered an official ban?
