A Hectic Visit Itinerary
Fundraising parties can't be held indefinitely, of course; the money raised has to be spent. So, after the New Year holidays, United Nations Children's Fund's aid activities were back on the agenda.
With Henry's help in handling the mundane matters, Audrey Hepburn unleashed an energy that surprised many young people, constantly pushing for visits to Africa, South Asia, Central America, and South America, and personally participating in them.
The UNICEF's projects have enough participants that they can organize and plan activities in several batches; otherwise, they wouldn't be able to handle Ms. Audrey Hepburn, who only needs to participate and write reports afterwards.
In particular, every time they go to a country on the Africa continent, they are accompanied by United Nations Peacekeeping Forces. This inevitably has some impact on the local situation. They don't receive this treatment in other places.
How to control this influence has become a major headache for United Nations members concerned with Africa affairs.
The number of peacekeeping forces is not unlimited, and the United Nations cannot deploy a large number of troops to help maintain order in Africa. In fact, a little chaos on this Dark Continent would be better for the entire Western world.
There's already an Islamic world in the middle of a confrontation. If the Black community rises again, it will be caught in a pincer movement, and Europe will be finished. But the key is to create some chaos, not to lose control. What If...? a place is too peaceful, it's actually necessary for them to become chaotic.
Therefore, Audrey Hepburn's child welfare activities also concealed political motives behind the scenes.
United Nations personnel had let slip the secret to Henry and Ms. Hepburn on more than one occasion, but for the moment, everyone just laughed it off.
During their evening rest, Henry couldn't help but ask Audrey Hepburn, who was reviewing a draft report, "Boss, is it normal for the United Nations people to be acting so haphazardly?"
"I'm surprised you would actually stand up for something like this." Having spent time with her assistant, Audrey Hepburn knew she wasn't particularly enthusiastic about charity work, and certainly wouldn't care about the dirty dealings behind the scenes.
Henry honestly replied, "I was just curious about your thoughts."
"Do you think of me as Mother Teresa?" Audrey Hepburn smiled meaningfully and said, "I know Mother Teresa, and I'm a good friend who can talk to her, but I can't be like her."
"You can't expect a woman who's seen Hollywood to be a saint, intolerant of even the slightest speck of dust."
At least these children have received help, haven't they?"
Henry then asked, "So as long as the final result is good, it's acceptable even if there are some minor Flaws in the process?"
Audrey Hepburn said helplessly, "You can't expect everyone involved in charity work to be a saint, and for everyone to bring their own food and participate without compensation."
"But you didn't receive any compensation for these activities, and sometimes you even paid out of your own pocket to increase the amount of aid supplies," Henry said.
"But the expenses for my trip, including food, accommodation, and other participants, were all covered by the UNICEF. Even you enjoyed the same publicly funded travel benefits," Ms. Hepburn said, speaking the truth.
Seeing Henry's conflicted expression, the woman continued, "It would be best if all the funds raised could be used for the children. But you need to understand that our purpose in coming here is not just to provide aid."
"A few days ago, local warlords were harassing us. But after the peacekeeping forces arrived, the harassment temporarily stopped. This is what we brought: in addition to supplies and medical aid, a period of peace."
"It may sound disheartening, but isn't this brief peace precious? I know I can't save the whole world, and I understand that those who come with me probably have other missions. But at least we saved the children in front of us."
"Even a seemingly false hope can be used to accuse us of hypocrisy. But perhaps this brief peace is an opportunity for some child to change their future, even if most people eventually return to where they were."
This is what Emperor Zhaolie of Shu Han meant when he entrusted his son to Zhuge Liang in Baidi City with the phrase "Do not refrain from doing good because it is small."
After understanding, Henry also realized why he was willing to follow Hepburn and engage in these charitable activities.
This is certainly not because I'm lusting after someone in their sixties. I may have initially been attracted by his celebrity status, but now I'm still willing to be driven by him; it's simply a feeling of admiration and respect.
Although I don't want to become like that at all, it doesn't stop me from admiring that the other person can do something that I can't do.
After thinking for a moment, Ms. Hepburn added, "However, even so, it would still be very disappointing if not a single penny of the funds raised were used for the children."
"Or they might make a demand, requiring the other party to fulfill it before they can receive help. But this is no longer an act based on goodwill; it becomes a transaction."
"Everyone will have their own ideas about where that line should be drawn. To me, even if this money isn't used for aid supplies, it should at least be spent on saving children."
Simply put, those who get things done are human, not saints who don't need to eat or drink. How to strike the right balance is a difficult problem with no single right answer.
This is why superheroes are so great; they are all like the tragic figure in the story of "Buddha cutting off his own flesh to feed an eagle."
Helping others is a noble act of kindness, Henry acknowledged. But he was only willing to help others when he had the means, rather than sacrificing himself to illuminate others' lives.
Henry, who was intimately familiar with all sorts of PUA tactics, felt that his Kryptonian advantage lay in having the ability to simply walk away.
As long as you lie flat enough, the wind resistance will be low—that's common sense in physics! If there weren't so many hardships, life would be happy!
Therefore, he only wants to do things that make him happy, rather than bitterly chasing endless desires within rules set by others.
Because it's no different from a donkey chasing a carrot dangling in front of it. Except it's a Krypton donkey.
Reaffirming his commitment to a life of leisure, Henry got busy again. This string of words seems surreal, but it's like a simp showing two different faces in front of his brothers and in front of his goddess. He might say he doesn't want it, but his actions betray him.
At least Henry felt he was doing something that made him happy. Helping Audrey Hepburn made him happy.
If a woman said to him, "Let's Destroy the Earth," Henry would probably just laugh and think, "Let's smash the Earth with one punch!" He wouldn't care if this was the Marvel Universe or if the Celestials were incubating eggs in the Earth's core.
The only possibility that he didn't blow up the Earth is that he couldn't. After all, to this day, Henry still has no evidence to prove that he is really a Kryptonian Superman.
So, I wonder if the Russians dismantled the escape pod I used when I arrived on Earth? Given the Russians' track record, Henry doubts he'll be able to find even a single screw when he goes back.
