S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Reinforcements
S.H.I.E.L.D.. support doesn't arrive in minutes like in the movies.
After all, their location was an hour or two's drive from Los Angeles. Even if they assembled and set off immediately after receiving Nick Fury's message, and sped off, the journey would still take an hour.
At this point in S.H.I.E.L.D., S. H. I. E. L. D. didn't yet have luxury vehicles like the Quinjet; they relied on flying for transportation. Even the experimental Quinjet was still located at this Air Force base.
So Henry had time to roast the deer leg and eat most of it. Then he and Kitty ate the rest, dug a hole some distance away, and buried it all. Then he extinguished the fire and restored the environment to its original state.
However, Henry didn't do it too professionally; he just tidied things up simply, leaving some inconspicuous traces. When someone is watching, you shouldn't do things too extravagantly.
After everything was sorted out, the long-awaited S.H.I.E.L.D.. support finally arrived.
What If...? the two people in the base were calling for help in a life-or-death situation, given S.H.I.E.L.D..'s response time, the people inside would probably be dead by now.
Perhaps because S.H.I.E.L.D..'s vehicles are quite uniform, all black SUVs, rather than colorful United Nations- style ones, Barbara spotted what appeared to be a S.H.I.E.L.D.. support team from afar and stood by the roadside waving.
Henry gave a whistle, signaling Kitty to wait in the back seat of the stolen old car first, instead of scaring people outside. Then he stood next to Barbara.
However, the way these cars stopped was anything but friendly. They subtly surrounded Barbara and Henry's escape route from both the front and back, rather than simply pulling over to the side of the road.
Because they weren't a military unit, they didn't have the custom of saluting like soldiers. Barbara simply greeted the first senior agent who got off the bus; he looked refined, wore glasses, and had half-gray hair.
"Sir, I am Agent Barbara Morse, trainee agent. Agent Nick Fury instructed me to wait here."
Unfortunately, Barbara's attempt to demonstrate loyalty only resulted in the people getting off the bus and pointing their guns at her. Most remained silent, except for one person who shouted, "Hands up, don't move!"
"Sir, what's going on?" Barbara asked, losing her composure.
Instead, Henry, standing beside him, dutifully raised his hands; otherwise, the gun barrels of those men would have been almost pressed against his nose.
The senior S.H.I.E.L.D.. agent leading the group adjusted his glasses and said, "Barbara, you are suspected of colluding with criminals to plot an escape."
The evidence is all around you.
"I'll get you up now and keep you here. We'll take you both with us after we rescue Nicholas. Men, take both of them together."
Forced to surrender under the gun, Barbara had no choice but to raise her hands. Her hands were then bound behind her back by S.H.I.E.L.D.. agents, and she and Henry were placed back to back on iron hands.
The two were forced to sit down on the spot. While they weren't unable to stand up, this position restricted their movements, making it difficult to move freely, let alone quickly.
The agent who gave the order selected two people. "You two stay and guard them. If they behave suspiciously, shoot them on the spot. The rest of you get in the car; we need to support the people at the base."
The group responded in twos and threes, "Yes, sir," and boarded the vehicle at the same time. Their voices may not have been in unison, but their movements were at least quite swift and decisive.
Only two people, armed with guns, stood guard over Barbara and Henry, who were sitting on the ground, one in front and one behind.
As the car sped away, the remaining group was covered in dust. Barbara was the most disgruntled, spitting out the dirt and grime as she complained, "Fuck, fuck! That idiot Nick Fury, what kind of support did he call in?!"
"Quiet down, trainee agent. What If...? you behave well, your superiors might be lenient. But the way you're acting right now won't do," the young agent facing Barbara advised, perhaps out of a more lenient attitude towards beautiful women.
"Fuck! I'm still an intern and I've already messed up like this. Do you think I can stay here?"
"Bang!" A gunshot rang out suddenly. The young agent, who had been awkwardly chatting with Barbara, stared in disbelief at the hole that had just been opened in his body. It gushed out like a fountain; pressing his hand against it wouldn't stop the bleeding. He finally collapsed, unable to hold on.
"No, you don't have a chance." The one who fired the shot was the agent who was on Henry's side.
He gestured with his gun, signaling the two men sitting on the ground to stand up.
Even though Barbara was stunned, she didn't dare to provoke the man with the gun. He'd even killed his own people; why would he hesitate to kill a simple-minded girl like her?
Henry, following the crowd, stood up with Barbara, back to back, struggling to his feet. "What do you plan to do now? Kill us?"
"No, you can go." The agent who fired waved his gun, as if shooing away a dog, trying to get Henry and Barbara to leave. However, he didn't seem to intend to untie their hands; he was just trying to get them to leave.
"Walter!" Neither Henry nor Barbara are idiots.
Even though Barbara, as an intern agent, can hardly be considered calm right now, her future success will be due to her quick reflexes and sharp mind.
Neither of them needed to think it through; they already knew the outcome of running away. Ultimately, it was up to the survivors to decide what the situation was like.
Henry is currently being hunted by S.H.I.E.L.D.. for some inexplicable reason. If he were to leave under these circumstances, that inexplicable reason would become irrefutable evidence of a crime.
So no matter what, Henry is not going to leave.
Barbara was in the same boat. If she were framed for murder and fled, her dream of returning to school to do research with a professor would be shattered. She deeply regretted joining this treacherous organization, especially since she had the audacity to try and bring in a man she liked so they could live happily ever after within the organization.
What was that stupid brain of theirs thinking?!
Barbara, feeling so stupid she wanted to scream, completely failed to notice that Henry had broken free from her grasp behind her.
Henry, who had no intention of acting, flexed his wrists as he walked toward the unconscious Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. had collapsed to the ground. Although the agent still had a heartbeat, he was likely to die from severe blood loss.
Seeing this, the armed agent impatiently shouted, "What are you doing?"
Although it was a question, he didn't intend to wait for an answer. He fired three shots, "Bang, bang, bang!" all hitting Henry. However, apart from tearing his clothes, they didn't harm the man in the slightest.
The agent who fired the shot realized something was wrong. He muttered under his breath, "Fuck Kryptonian!" and turned to take down Barbara first.
Before he could even make a move, Henry had already pulled his sidearm from the fallen agent. Two shots to the body and one to the head! He took down the guy who was trying to frame him.
The agent shot by Henry revealed his true form: a bald, green-skinned, pointy-eared man who was clearly not from Earth. Barbara, who witnessed everything, was dumbfounded.
