The Defeated Are Not the Victims
Compared to the Skrulls' irritating persuasion, what truly swayed Carol Danvers were the words of her best friend.
Maria Rambo said, "Do you remember? The Doctor once said that what she was researching wasn't for fighting, but for ending wars."
General Ross quickly chimed in, "That's right. Ms. Will, whom you call Dr. Lawson, agrees with this, which is why she's helping us."
"You yourself are aware of the Kree's ways. At least when I said that the tragedy on Tofa was the work of Ronan the Accuser, you didn't argue with me. Because you know that the Kree are indeed capable of doing such things."
"What If...? you're willing to believe Dr. Lawson, why not try believing us? Ms. Rambo, I also thank you for your frankness; your judgment hasn't been distorted by your daughter's situation."
"Of course, I offer my deepest apologies for the girl's injuries. She was not our real target. What If...? there's anything we can do to make amends, please feel free to say so."
This Skrulls general went to great lengths to win over Carol Danvers.
Even Maria Rambo, who should have been furious about her daughter's injury, inexplicably changed her stance and chose to support the Skrulls in this matter, regardless of whether she still wanted to settle scores with the Skrulls for her daughter's injury.
Perhaps the Kree deceived and manipulated her best friend, and even made her believe that her best friend had been dead for six years, which held a more important place in her heart.
It's unclear what Nick Fury's intentions were, but he didn't want to interfere with Carol Danvers's actions; he simply let others persuade her.
His attitude also influenced Barbara's attitude, leading this young woman, fresh out of school, to approach the Kryptonian identity had been exposed, with excited steps.
"Henry, the Skrulls are like space refugees now, being driven around everywhere. The Kree, on the other hand, are committing atrocities everywhere, and have brainwashed and controlled Lieutenant Danvers. It seems we need to help the Skrulls fight the Kree together. Will you come with us?"
Sitting on the grass, leaning against a tree trunk, Henry was enjoying the sunlight filtering through the trees while stroking Kitty's tiger head.
Upon hearing the girl's invitation, he simply stood up, turned his backside, and retorted, "Why should we join this war that doesn't belong to us?"
Nick Fury walked over and answered Henry's question. "Because we've been forced into this. What If...? the earth doesn't have the power to defeat both sides, then we have no choice but to help one side and fight against the other."
Nick Fury, Barbara, and Henry's conversation also drew others closer. Even Carol Danvers wondered if the man operating with the Tiger would join them.
This is not to say that we admire the enemy's combat power. Earth's gunpowder weapons cannot penetrate it, but there are many more powerful individual weapons in the universe that can easily penetrate the defenses of backward civilizations that they think are invincible.
However, seeing the Skrulls approaching as well, Henry had no intention of putting on a friendly face. "Ms. Vers, or rather, Ms. Danvers."
Just call me Carol.
"It seems you've accepted your new identity, or rather, reverted to your original one. But I wonder how much you remember about Earth, and whether you still recall the history of World War II?"
World War II?
World War II, which lasted from 1939 to 1945, involved as many as 61 countries and drew in as many as 20 million people.
"Approximately 110 million people directly participated in the war. It was the largest war in Earth's history in terms of both scale and number of participants."
Carol Danvers frowned, then relaxed. "I remember. But why did you bring it up?"
"Towards the end of the war, Berlin, Germany, Tokyo, Japan, were bombed by the Allies. Ultimately, these two Axis Powers surrendered, becoming defeated nations in World War II. Do you think the Germany and Japan deserve sympathy?"
"Of course not! Whether in the Europe theater or the East Asian theater, their acts of aggression have caused countless lives and economic losses. Why should we sympathize with these perpetrators?"
"Yes, that's my answer too." Henry shrugged, appearing indifferent.
"Kryptonian, what are you trying to imply!" General Ross said angrily, not forgetting to emphasize that Henry was not from Earth either. "Are you saying that the suffering of my people, my kind, is fabricated?"
Henry replied, "I didn't say those were false; I just don't know if you're innocent, or if you deserved them."
General Ross was equally indignant. "I can tell you with certainty that this war began because of the technology of the Kree and Skrulls. After stealing our starship and weapons technology, they turned around and invaded us."
"Even now, our homes have been destroyed, our people have been killed, and the Kree do not even spare those who helped us. Even towards innocent planets and forces, their attitude is one of conquest, not peace."
"Look at your fellow citizens. Oh, not your fellow citizens, but look at what happened to Lieutenant Danvers. You don't think other Earthlings will be treated well by the Kree."
"If you don't rise up in resistance, the fate of the Skrulls today will be the fate of humanity tomorrow. Any normal person should not have any wrong expectations of that militaristic nation."
The applause, more sarcastic than positive, came from Henry's hands. "Well said. So, Carol, you served in the Kree army. Do you know the reasons for this war?"
She struggled internally, unsure whether to say things she no longer truly believed. But in the end, Carol Danvers decided to speak.
"The Skrulls believe it is their duty to conquer and rule every planet in the universe in order to bring peace. So they use their racial talents to constantly invade and overthrow the existing regimes of the planets from within."
"Ultimately, it will lead to colonial rule or Destroy. And the Kree are the saviors who resist all of this. Are you going to tell me that the Kree propaganda is true?"
Henry said, "Of course I don't know anything about that. All I know is that this isn't my war."
General Ross then exclaimed, "I admit I did some terrible things in this war. But so what? What's happening now is the Skrulls being driven and slaughtered like insects; it's the Kree are doing all this."
Henry was not intimidated by the opponent's momentum at all, and instead retorted sharply, "You were defeated and driven away by the Kree like stray dogs, so you have a reason to resist."
"Ms. Carol Danvers was brainwashed and controlled by the Kree, so it's only natural that she, being conscious, would rebel. And what about me?"
