Fitting
On the eve of the premiere of "The Escape from Devil Island," Charlize Theron, accompanied by Henry, tried on a dress provided by Cruella de Vil.
This green backless bodycon dress has a fairly conventional design, unlike Cruella de Vil's usual wilder designs. The most unconventional element, however, is the green color itself.
The green dresses that were once popular among Victoria ladies were dyed with highly toxic arsenic. In more common terms, it was arsenic poison.
As a result, wealthy women who could afford to follow the latest fashion trends were among the first to fail. The more enthusiastic they were, the more tragic their demise.
For a long time, green clothing was considered taboo. It was hard not to associate it with women who died because of their love of beauty.
However, the silk green dress Charlize wore didn't use such dangerous dyes. What If...? it had, it wouldn't have escaped Henry's Krypton nose.
Aside from the colors, which have Cruella de Vil Vil's signature rebellious style, the design of the dress isn't particularly groundbreaking.
Henry was quite surprised by this and said, "Ms. Deevy, have you run out of inspiration and can't think of any more absurd designs?"
Cruella de Vil angrily picked up a feather duster from the studio and started waving it around, muttering, "What do you mean by 'no inspiration'! Can't you speak properly?! This is an occasion Charlize is going to, and we need to consider her image. Is it appropriate for her to dress like a peacock?"
"If an old man like Sean Conner deems it inappropriate, will you two, you adulterers, then complain that my clothing design isn't good enough?"
"Knowing when to dress appropriately for the occasion, according to the client's needs—that's what demonstrates my professionalism! I can tolerate such a boring job, what more could you want?"
"If you want to attract attention, get a swimsuit, cover it with rotten beef, and walk the red carpet. I guarantee every newspaper will be full of your stories tomorrow."
Henry had only said one sentence when he was subjected to a long, scathing lecture. Even when he tried to get a hug from his girlfriend, she gave him a death stare and flicked his forehead with her finger.
The Kryptonian, pretending to be in great pain, sullenly sat back down by the wall. Watching the group of people bustling around, he found it surprisingly pleasing to the eye.
This doesn't mean I can slack off and watch others busy themselves with their work, feeling quite smug. Rather, it's the feeling of watching a group of people diligently dressing up a girl, transforming her from a slightly Flaws girl into someone more and more perfect.
It's like watching someone create a work of art. Whether it's a painting or a sculpture, what was originally ordinary begins to transform into something magical under the skillful hands of the artist, until finally a breathtaking work is completed.
Seeing the whole process, no one would find it boring, right? Not to mention, it makes an already beautiful girl even more stunning.
This is much better than using makeup magic, one of the four great evil arts of East Asia, to turn an ugly woman into a beautiful one.
That's outright fraud! It should be written into law and prosecuted. Those who developed the beauty filter should be drowned in a pig cage and paraded through the streets.
Perhaps the Kryptonian was lost in Super Brain, his sly grin too unsettling for Cruella de Vil to bear, she said, "You, go next door and try on your suit. Don't get in my way."
Charlize nodded. After all, this was a fitting, and sometimes minor alterations couldn't be made while the clothes were on, so they had to be taken off. There wasn't any extra clothing to cover them up during the process of putting them on and taking them off.
Although Charlize had already been seen naked, she couldn't stand her boyfriend's intense gaze in such a crowded place, as she wasn't thick-skinned enough.
Keep in mind that all the staff and tailors present were women, with Henry being the only man among them, and an outsider unrelated to their work.
So when Cruella de Vil spoke, everyone agreed. They were practically ready to kick Henry in the backside and send him to the next room.
Touching his nose, he went to the fitting room next door, where a dark gray suit was being worn on a human-shaped clothes rack. Jasper Baden and Horace Baden, along with several tailors, were waiting there.
"You finally got kicked out. It took longer than I expected, which means you're even more capable than I thought," Horace Baden said, stuffing a donut into his mouth.
This big guy has been eating at least one donut every day since he arrived in United States. Most of the time, it seems like he's never without a donut in his hand.
Judging from the fact that his belt was a notch or two loose, but his shirt buttons hadn't popped open yet, you could tell how much Cruella de Vil cared about the outfits of her two henchmen.
If he sees even the slightest imperfection, he'll start altering it. I wonder how many times Horace Baden's clothes have been altered.
Hearing the fat man's words, whether mocking or admiring, Henry just chuckled and said, "It's my own girlfriend, what's wrong with taking a look?"
Jasper Baden held up a bottle of liquor in a gesture, but Henry shook his head.
He poured himself a glass and said, "Horace wasn't talking about you enjoying the scenery inside. He was talking about how Cruella de Vil actually put up with you interfering with their work, and only now is she kicking you out."
"Oh, Ms. Deevy is so assertive?"
"Rather than saying she's assertive, it's more accurate to say she's almost obsessively dedicated when she's working. Sometimes, even those of us who have known her since childhood can't help but be intimidated."
Although they were just chatting, Jasper didn't intend to argue too much. He pointed to the suit on the mannequin clothes rack and said, "Try it on first. If it doesn't fit, have it altered immediately. If Cruella de Vil sees you wearing ill-fitting clothes, she'll be unhappy again."
Henry glanced at the suits on the hanger, then at the ones Jasper and Horace were wearing. "The same style as yours."
Just then, Cruella de Vil's voice came from another room. "You, who always says 'Just don't make me attend the party naked,' what's with all the fuss about the style?"
"I'll just take two leaves, one in front and one behind, and tie them together with hemp rope for you to wear. That way, it meets your minimum requirements, and it'll also help you attract some attention."
Henry pleaded with the woman in the next room, "Please, no! I have my pride too. If you really made me dress like that, I'd have to run to a deserted island the next day to avoid trouble."
"Shut up! Try on your clothes."
Henry, now dressed in a dark gray suit, exclaimed in surprise, "Wow, it fits perfectly! When did you take my measurements?"
"Cruella de Vil's eyesight is sharper than a ruler, isn't it amazing?" Horace Baden said smugly, his mouth stuffed with donuts.
"Indeed, this is really impressive." Henry said, stretching his body as he checked his waist and arm measurements.
A suit is not a garment that makes you feel stiff and restrictive when you wear it.
It originated from military uniforms during the reign of King Louis XIV of France, and then as loose-fitting clothing for informal occasions. For a long time, the three-piece suit was considered casual wear that was not suitable for formal occasions.
Not to mention in modern times, many high-class thugs wear suits while they fight and kill.
Such clothing would certainly not cause any inconvenience to the wearer.
How to leave enough room for movement while still fitting the body well is a true test of a designer's and tailor's skills. At least this bespoke suit is much better than the Armani suit Henry wore.
