Treading on Air
Of course, the Void couldn't just take the beating without fighting back or using its brain. It immediately saw the crux of its predicament and then, with a whoosh, soared into the sky.
Superman could certainly catch up and continue the fight, but Quicksilver, the speedster, would be completely out of his depth. His abilities require him to be grounded to function effectively; he can manage on liquid surfaces, but aerial combat is a complete blind spot for him.
Wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth, the wounds on his body and inside his mouth healed instantly. The Void, with its superior air and undiminished arrogance, said, "I'm quite surprised you could achieve this. This is a commendable accomplishment, but it ends here."
Quicksilver approached Superman and said, "If Wanda creates the footholds, I can still fight in the air. Shall we continue?"
She glanced back at Scarlet Witch. She'd been playing a passive role from the start, focusing on defense and avoiding innocent casualties. Was she trying to avoid the fight? Actually, it was just that she couldn't keep up with the three speedsters.
To allow her to create a foothold for Quicksilver to take flight would essentially limit his Quicksilver, making his actions predictable. In that case, he'd probably be close to death.
Shaking his head and rejecting this unreliable advice, Superman asked, "Do you know about the sound barrier?"
"Come on, even if I didn't go to school, I still have some basic physics knowledge, okay?" Quicksilver complained.
"So if you step on the pedals at just the right speed, you'll get a support force provided by compressed air. Do you understand what I mean?"
The sound barrier refers to the inability of displaced air to propagate quickly, causing it to accumulate and compress at the windward side, ultimately creating a sudden change in the air's physical properties such as pressure, temperature, speed, and density.
This abrupt change will create resistance on the windward side. Once this resistance is breached, a shock wave will spread outward.
Although Quicksilver didn't have a deeper understanding of aerodynamics than those experts and scholars, he still understood the definition of this level. And with a quick thought, he understood Superman's intention in bringing this up at this time.
Quicksilver asked in astonishment, "Is such a thing even possible?"
"If you can't do it, then of course it's impossible." With that, Superman soared into the sky, his fists cleaving the Void as he charged straight into it.
The Scarlet Witch, who flew over using her magical abilities, asked, "Do you want me to help you get into the sky to fight?"
Although she can fly, she mainly uses it for movement, not for aerial combat against enemies of Superman's or the Void's caliber. Therefore, Scarlet Witch never considered intervening in battles she couldn't handle. She could only prepare from the sidelines and wait for her opportunity.
Quicksilver is no novice in combat; he's been through countless battles, big and small, since his encounter with the X-Men. He certainly knows the drawbacks of using Chaos Magic to ascend to the heavens.
What If...? the opponent were an ordinary Mutants, this combined attack might leave them bewildered and questioning their existence.
Even fighting the Void on the ground requires Quicksilver to be extremely careful, lest he be hit by a the Void punch. Under such circumstances, would he dare to casually fly into the air?
If Superman's suggestion works, he could simultaneously possess extreme speed and freedom in the air, which would make it possible for him to continue fighting against the Void.
So Quicksilver shook his head and declined his sister's suggestion, saying, "I'll try other methods first. You can still provide support from the outside and set up magical traps. As long as you can catch him, even if it's just slowing him down by half a beat, it will be a huge help to us."
As soon as he finished speaking, Quicksilver unleashed his speed and began to sprint. Instead of running along the building's walls, he attempted to leap into the Void as close as possible to launch his attack.
It is not an attempt to disrupt airflow in order to interfere with the Void.
Quicksilver simply ran along the streets of Manhattan, adjusting his pace. For a top-level speedster like him, theory could help him fill in the gaps, but talent was the real key to his ascent to the top.
Based on Superman's suggestion and his own attempt, Quicksilver felt the resistance of the air barrier on his feet after only a few steps.
He didn't attempt to break through this barrier, even though his muscle and bone structure allowed him to break the sound barrier unharmed. But breaking through wasn't what Quicksilver needed; he simply pulled back at this barrier and ran the next step.
Then two steps, three steps! Having found the trick, his running path detached from the road surface, and he stepped into the air diagonally upwards.
"Oh ho! Sentry, take this!" Quicksilver shouted excitedly, delivering a supersonic punch from his side that bent the Void in mid-air like a boiled lobster.
Superman didn't miss such a good opportunity either. He clasped his hands together and slammed the Void into the ground from above, creating a huge crater.
Meanwhile, the Scarlet Witch's long-planned trap finally took effect. A mass of reddish-black mud enveloped the Void in the giant pit, coalescing into a sphere and tightly trapping it within.
Scarlet Witch's success was like flipping a switch. More and more magical shields were erected outside the Void, seemingly intent on trapping this creature inside forever.
Superman then realized that most of the people hiding nearby were actually well-known figures in the Magical World. And they were all genuine, not just imposters who frequently appeared on television to gain fame.
It's probably similar to the Scarlet Witch appearing on the scene, summoned by the Sorcerer Supreme. This the Leader of the Earth's magical dimension certainly knows who has real skills, and he wouldn't call in some second-rate or combat-unconscious trash for this kind of occasion.
But... can magic trap the Void?
Before Superman's question could be verified in any way, Optic Blast shot down from the rooftop of a building precisely struck the trapped and struggling the Void, incidentally shattering the magical barrier...
The X-Men have finally returned, but in a way that everyone finds repulsive.
The Void he broke free from didn't attack Superman, who posed the greatest threat to him, but instead rushed up the building to the X-Men who had just landed.
That disastrous attack was, of course, Cyclops's doing. Storm, hovering in mid-air, was gathering clouds and lightning, preparing for a massive attack. However, her attack animation had too long a wind-up, making it unsuitable for this kind of battle, and it certainly couldn't withstand the Void.
Besides these two top-tier regular fighters from the X-Men, the bald Professor X, who was in a wheelchair, was also present. He used Mind Stone to connect the thoughts of everyone present, including Superman, hoping to understand the situation of the battle and use that information to give orders.
These people are all targets of his the Void attacks. As long as he gets close, not one of them will escape his grasp.
Unfortunately, in the face of the Void, they were stopped by Jean Grey, a Mutants with the Phoenix Force.
