Delivered to His Doorstep
Henry returned to the hotel and immediately received a phone call. The caller asked abruptly, "You left first?"
Only someone with an excessive sense of self-importance, who thinks everyone knows him and can recognize him just by his voice, like Tony Stark, would be so rude on the phone.
Henry, unusually calm, said in an extremely flat tone, "I received the surprise you mentioned. In fact,
It would be more accurate to say it was fright.
What happened?
Because it was over the phone and not on a secure line, Henry said cryptically, "They found my childhood nanny. Unfortunately, we didn't get along very well back then."
"So this meeting wasn't the tearful embrace that some people imagined after a long separation, followed by sitting down and reminiscing about the past. The fact that we didn't fight is already a sign of my maturity as an adult."
These words were, of course, completely incomprehensible to Tony Stark, who was unaware of the situation.
However, the unspoken understanding between the two was that they wouldn't talk about the past. For example, Henry would never ask him questions like whether he used to want to run away from home every few days when the Old Man Stark was around.
Later he realized there was no need to run away from home; because the busy old man was even less likely to appear at that house than he was.
His conversations with Henry mostly focused on technology and research; they touched on other matters only briefly, occasionally making jokes about toilet humor and teasing each other about their private lives.
So Henry's obvious reluctance to discuss these matters, coupled with Tony Stark's not-so-meddlesome nature, meant he simply listened and forgot about it.
He said regretfully, "It's a pity I invited quite a few singers to perform at my semi-annual event today. Their voices are really good, quite melodious."
In his new life memories, Henry is always seen by outsiders as a timid bachelor who stays in Hollywood, watching a bunch of actresses but unable to make a move.
For a playboy who changes girlfriends more often than underwear, making fun of Henry in this respect is perhaps the only thing Tony Stark can boast about, a way to show off his superiority.
However, in another part of his life, Tony Stark often tempted Henry, who had a steady girlfriend, with various beautiful women, while repeatedly saying that he would not tell anyone.
Henry is unable to judge which of the two actions is more egregious.
After making contact with Snake S.H.I.E.L.D., Henry planted a hidden listening device on John Garrett.
This was originally used for self-protection, to eavesdrop on and record conversations between oneself and outsiders, so that in case of disputes later, there would be no way to prove the truth.
While such unauthorized recordings may not be admissible as evidence in civil disputes, and judges may not necessarily believe them, they can be used in criminal cases. After all, it involves personal safety, which is a different level of offense than property damage.
I'm using this equipment now to track and eavesdrop on Snake S.H.I.E.L.D. personnel. It's not about taking it to Court; I just want to figure out what Snake Shield is up to.
So while dealing with Tony Stark's boasting, Henry found his headphones and switched them to a listening channel.
These devices, incorporating alien technology, are unlike ordinary eavesdropping devices with a transmission range of only ten meters or so. Instead, they are special devices that include cloud storage and can record high and low frequency ambient sounds.
It can operate normally wherever satellite signals can be received. Its size is only the size of a button, making it highly concealed.
Because the signal is not a regular radio signal, commercially available anti-eavesdropping devices are unable to detect it.
The reason for taking a conservative approach to this matter is that it is impossible to determine whether a secret intelligence organization like S.H.I.E.L.D.. possesses any advanced technology that could uncover their listening devices.
Although there is only one self-made Kryptonian Satellite, it is in geostationary orbit and can cover the entire North America region. There is only one user, so operating it on the East Coast of New York is of course not a problem.
Henry, who never imagined he would be a spy, quickly adjusted his mindset and began to carefully listen to John Garrett's situation.
This seriousness lasted for less than half an hour. During that time, John Garrett kept criticizing his subordinates for their incompetence and cursing the Russians for not telling the truth in order to protect themselves.
As a seasoned spy, he spoke with great restraint. At least Henry didn't hear any keywords like "Hydra."
Or they might explain certain plans clearly from the beginning, as if afraid that someone hasn't heard them before.
So Henry quickly gave up on personally eavesdropping. He kept the equipment running, automatically recording the eavesdropping messages on a secret server, ready to retrieve the content later.
Damn it! Who on earth thinks that having Super Hearing and Super Vision allows for global surveillance, making them omniscient and able to know anything instantly?
If they don't say it out loud, how the hell are you supposed to know? This isn't some kind of global mind-reading machine. Or do they think this is just a game where everyone they see has a built-in character data frame and even an autobiography?
Now he has something else to consider: how to end this matter?
The reason he hasn't tried to poach personnel from the Siberian Research Institute isn't because he doesn't harbor resentment or hatred.
It's not that I think it's acceptable because the other person raised me, and even if they tormented me in the last few years.
I don't go looking for it because I don't want to chase after hatred and get lost in it.
Now that the other party has shown up on their own initiative, whether it was voluntary or someone else did them a great favor, Henry cannot remain silent about it.
And upon carefully recalling the memories of those twenty-three people who appeared, wow! They really were the gatekeeper and the cleaning lady!
They didn't contact any of them. They only contacted people they had direct contact with, which shows that they must have a certain status in the research institute.
What If...? Snake Shield or S.H.I.E.L.D.. can get these twenty-three people to come forward, it means they also have some understanding of the whereabouts or fate of the others. After all, finding people and getting them to come forward is much more difficult than gathering information.
Henry suddenly became very interested in the information that John Garrett might have. After ending his call with Tony Stark, he immediately flew back to the Sheep Cave Valley Laboratory on the West Coast and changed into a black Kevlar night suit.
Black Super now available.
When Black Super returned to New York, he tracked the signal from his bugging device and followed the Snake S.H.I.E.L.D. from the air.
With his various superpowers in his eyes temporarily, or possibly forever, unusable, Black Super has no choice but to risk entering Snake Shield's base to gather intelligence.
Fortunately, he had experience constructing environmental models based solely on his hearing, observing sound wave feedback and air disturbances. Therefore, even without his superpowers of sight, the Black Super still held a considerable advantage.
The downside is that if you want to read a paper document, you have to physically handle it and pick it up to read it. It's not like before...
They can read document contents from a distance using a combination of X-Ray Vision and Super Vision.
Black Super acquired the technology of many pharmaceutical companies or machinery factories using this combination of techniques. Even if the other party put the documents in a safe, Black Super could still read them directly from the outside.
Now, the only option is to try and infiltrate the Snake Shield's base, using traditional methods to find documents and gather intelligence.
