The Current Situation, Different from the Plan
The people brought in from Russia were all sitting together in a large Barry.
Resisting the urge to wipe them out in one fell swoop and then alert the enemy, Black Super took advantage of the darkness to track the convoy from the air, arriving at a secret base that was unclear whether it belonged to Snake Shield or S.H.I.E.L.D..
This isn't a military base, nor is it a heavily guarded building; it's just an ordinary five-star hotel.
This group booked two floors.
One floor was used to house the Russia. They weren't well-received, and their treatment seemed worse than before. Many of them got into arguments with the agents, mostly about unfulfilled promises.
Some people went back to their rooms to reunite with their families, clearly indicating that they had left their homeland with their families and had no intention of returning.
The other floor was where John Garrett and his team of agents rested and worked temporarily. Judging from the room's condition, they seemed to be enjoying themselves quite a bit.
Given his extravagant spending habits, it's no wonder this guy was able to gather a large following and become a S.H.I.E.L.D..
Because it was only a temporary office, their documents were not kept in a safe or filing cabinet, but rather in an inconspicuous briefcase.
If it weren't for the Black Super noticing them taking out numerous documents from the briefcase and discussing them, no one would have noticed the briefcase at all.
The conversation also revealed why this group didn't return to S.H.I.E.L.D..'s command center in New York. While S.H.I.E.L.D. Triskelion headquarters in Washington, D. C., hasn't been built yet, New York, as a major city, wields considerable influence within S.H.I.E.L.D..
However, John Garrett's official position is now that of the head of the Eastern Europe region. This is why he was able to get people out of Russia, but had to find another place to settle them after returning to New York.
Black Super speculated that this might be a private operation without official permission, which was why they couldn't utilize official resources.
Since there was nowhere to hide in the hotel room, and the group of agents were energetically discussing things, it was wishful thinking for Black Super to try and sneak in. So he could only wait, wait for them to leave or fall asleep.
Perhaps because a meeting was in progress, John Garrett's complaints and curses decreased during the listening session, and he talked more about serious matters.
Their first discussion revolved around the fate of the Russia. If they could no longer be used to curry favor with Henry Brown, what other value did they have? How much would it cost to keep them? How much would it cost to send them back? Should they simply be left unattended?
John Garrett, the supervisor, did not give a direct answer but instead asked about their recent trading profits.
This allowed Black Super to overhear and understand the reason. It turned out that with the collapse of the Red Empire, a large number of sealed or forgotten military weapons had flowed into Third World countries.
Taking advantage of their location, these agents started a brokerage business and made a fortune.
The Reason "money in hand brings peace of mind" applies universally. Therefore, John Garrett waved his hand and decided to let the Russia stay.
These people were once scientific and technical personnel, but the chaotic political situation rendered them useless. For a bite to eat...
So they can only do low-class jobs.
Although the main purpose of these people was to get close to their target, Henry Brown, it now seems unlikely that they will succeed. However, the knowledge they possess can still fill the gap in scientific research talent.
Upon closer examination, Black Super discovered that John Garrett had quite a few plans operating behind the scenes. Whether this group should be used centrally or separately became the focus of discussion once again.
Ultimately, they decided to distribute people across different projects to prevent them from colluding and conspiring within the same project. However, for ease of monitoring, there would still be regional centralized management.
It's important to understand that finding this group of people involved searching all over the country. Therefore, there's no basis to the claim that working together increases efficiency.
Besides, it's not like we're researching projects they haven't worked on before. Since they all have no experience and are starting from scratch, there's no need to force this group of people to come together.
This made Black Super suspect that agents at a certain level might form their own trusted private teams instead of relying entirely on public resources.
With the twenty-three people already found and a place to go, no one continued to discuss their story. For these people who had escaped Russia, sending them back to that place where there was no tomorrow was worse than simply killing them.
So sending them back would be quite a hassle. It's better to just keep them and let them do what they're used to.
To conduct scientific research.
With the fates of the twenty-three decided, there wasn't much discussion left regarding whether to continue contacting the remaining individuals. Everyone simply awaited further instructions.
John Garrett's decision wasn't much different from what everyone expected.
For former research institute personnel who have achieved a certain status, cease all contact related to the mission.
This means that if there are other interests at stake with the other party, it's fine to continue digging deeper. But What If...?'s only related to Henry Brown, the investigation can stop.
This made Black Super realize with certainty that there were indeed people the Snake Shield team had failed to find. And these people were doing quite well!
Now, their desire to seize the intelligence they possessed only intensified.
They then discussed whether what Henry Brown said in the ear of a certain Russia was "forgiveness" read through lip reading, or a threat as the person involved claimed.
The Russia firmly believed the threat was real, so this statement had already spread among their former colleagues.
The agents still believed that what they saw was the true story. The Russia ' insistence on their version of events was nothing more than an attempt to smear this person who clearly had a grudge against them.
This proves that the little trick we played earlier was indeed successful.
When there is a conflict between two sides of a situation, people will subconsciously choose to believe the side that is more advantageous to them.
Even if someone tells them that the other side is correct, they would rather believe that their chosen side is "wrong" because that choice is the one that benefits them; the truth doesn't.
For the agents led by John Garrett, Henry Brown's decision to step aside meant they could save themselves the trouble of protecting the people they had brought from Russia.
If Henry Brown chooses revenge, they will be in a dilemma.
Should they protect these people they've painstakingly rescued, risking alienating someone they want to win over, and potentially suffering casualties in the process; or abandon their investment in them and let their target kill them?
In short, the attitude of these agents was exactly what Black Super wanted, making him resist the urge to take action today and deal with those Russia.
To extricate oneself from this situation, careful planning is necessary.
What truly worries Black Super is that if John Garrett is indeed a ruthless and ambitious man, once he learns of Blackie's true intentions, he might take matters into his own hands and deal with these twenty-three people. By doing Henry Brown a favor, he would also gain leverage over him.
To sacrifice one's innocence for hatred and give someone leverage over one's own is an insult to the existence of Super Brain.
The man, who felt his life had suddenly lost its purpose after losing a girl, stood on the rooftop, his thoughts racing as he enjoyed the cool evening breeze.
