Snake Shield Makes Its Move
The remaining tasks, except for the one who stayed at the Oscorp, almost all fell silent at the same time.
Some tracking signals have disappeared, while others have stopped moving in one place. Has this meant they've been discovered?
Because of the need for miniaturization and the risk of loss or detection, it does not use alien-level transmission methods. Instead, the signal is hidden in the increasingly sophisticated mobile phone network, instead of using ordinary radio waves.
These little things aren't undetectable. As for damage, they're practically nonexistent; a hard smash with a hard object would destroy them. If one sample is discovered, finding other identical ones shouldn't be difficult.
Further searching for network surveillance resources that could be compromised in locations with no signal, Henry witnessed a serious car accident.
In the surveillance footage, at an intersection, a car that ran a red light at high speed crashed into a car that was proceeding through Green Lantern, sending the other car tumbling several times and flipping over.
Because the roof of the car was severely crushed and deformed, the people inside were unable to escape immediately, regardless of whether they were still conscious.
The flames near the chassis fuel system foreshadowed an ominous future. Sure enough, although the expected explosion did not occur, the flames spread rapidly along the fuel system and through the leaking oil, causing the entire vehicle to catch fire.
At this point, rescuing people is no longer an option. Call the fire department to put out the fire.
After watching the Chicago street surveillance footage, Henry was speechless. His to-do list had been taken care of by someone else? What was going on?
Henry, realizing a certain possibility, could only lament that he hadn't acted quickly enough.
His daily routine remained unchanged, the same schedule he maintained after resigning from Stark Studios, ensuring he was exposed to the public as much as possible.
While a schedule doesn't need to be perfectly precise, there are certain patterns to follow. The goal is to ensure that no one notices anything unusual about one's behavior, even when there's only one task left to complete.
During this period, Henry went to the cinema almost every afternoon. Sometimes he would watch the latest movies, and sometimes he would go to a secondary theater to watch some classic old movies.
Second-run theaters have cheap tickets, so naturally, they don't have many customers. Many people go to these places just to enjoy the air conditioning and kill time. People like Henry who come to watch movies are very rare.
Today I watched the movie <Gone with the Gone with the Wind>, a classic old film. What If...? we ignore box office revenue and only look at the number of viewers in North America, <Gone with the Wind> is estimated to have had as many as 200 million viewers!
Based on the results up to this year (98), the previous box office Champion, Star Wars: A New Dawn, had more than 170 million viewers. This year's Champion, Titanic, accumulated more than 130 million viewers before it was taken off the screens.
Therefore, some people believe that, after factoring in inflation, the all-time box office Champion should be this classic film released in 1939, without a doubt.
The excellence of this film is undeniable; like Titanic, it is a masterpiece of its time. In this year's list of the 100 greatest films of the 20th century compiled by the American Film Institute, Gone with the Gone with the Wind ranked fourth.
Moreover, while other adaptations of classic literary works, such as "Little Women," have been shown on the big screen multiple times, "Gone with the Wind" has become a final, unforgettable film.
Besides the fact that film companies are hesitant to challenge classic works, a bigger factor is that this film and the original novel contain many viewpoints that do not conform to mainstream thought today, including racial discrimination, the Ku Klux Klan, and the glorification of slavery.
This was a period of intense intellectual clashes during the brief period of peace between World War I and World War II.
That's the kind of movie that could only be made back then. If it were made today, the film company would probably be criticized mercilessly just for getting the project approved.
The movie is three hours and forty minutes long, which should have been a time to quietly appreciate the golden age of Hollywood and the performances of top male and female actors. However, a group of inconsiderate people barged into the movie theater and ruined the good mood.
John Garrett, who had brought the core members of the Alien Research Institute to Henry, sat down alone next to Henry, even though there were plenty of empty seats in the movie theater and there was no need to sit so cramped.
He certainly didn't come alone; several men in black suits followed him in. They casually found seats and sat down, subtly surrounding Henry.
Even with the Kryptonian ' Super Hearing, people were blocking the entrances and exits of the movie theater.
"Henry Brown, you're really giving me a headache. What If...? this is what you want, you can just tell me directly, no need for all this trouble. Do you know how much your value has diminished without the Stark Umbrella?"
John Garrett's tone was very unpleasant, as if he had come to interrogate someone.
Henry frowned, feigning ignorance, and said, "Mr. Garrett, I don't understand what you mean. As for my departure from Stark Studios, that's solely my own career plan. Outsiders have no right to interfere."
"I went to great lengths to get these people out of Russia. Now, for your sake alone, I've sacrificed them all. Shouldn't you compensate me for my losses? Don't tell me this has nothing to do with you; everyone here isn't blind."
"Are they the twenty-three people you asked me to meet back then? What happened to them?"
John Garrett was naturally angry at this feigned ignorance. But before he could think of what to say, someone nearby shouted, "If you don't want to watch the movie, get out! Don't talk in here!"
John Garrett glanced back, and the unfortunate child was dragged out by the man in the black suit he had brought. Seeing this, the other unrelated guests also wisely left on their own.
Seeing that no one else was waiting, John Garrett became even bolder. He bluntly stated, "You don't think we're unprepared to deal with you, do you? Kryptonian. Knowing when to quit while you're ahead is the smart thing to do."
In the blink of an eye, John Garrett pulled a palm-sized box from his pocket. Inside, as soon as the lid was opened, were several stones emitting a green glow.
The fluorescence varied slightly in depth and hue, and in the dim environment of the movie theater, the green light emanating from the stone was quite noticeable.
Henry feigned pain, his body convulsing as he slumped off his seat. "You—where did you come from?"
John Garrett said smugly, "Kryptonite, huh? I thought it would be hard to find, but we found it anyway. I think we can change the terms. I'm suddenly very interested in the physiology of Kryptonian."
"Do you think it's possible for us to mass-produce Kryptonian soldiers? After all, you don't look much different from us."
