Responding to a Call

Appearing in public with a Tiger was bound to get away with it. Henry's Super Hearing allowed him to hear numerous police cars with sirens blaring, heading in their direction.

There are areas in New York's Central Park where cars are allowed, but all vehicles are prohibited from entering after 7 p. m.

Of course, there are corresponding traffic rules to follow when entering the park. You can't treat the park like a racetrack and casually exceed 100 kilometers per hour.

So there was still a chance to leave before the police arrived. But Henry wasn't in a hurry to run. It would be too exhausting to have to dodge the police every time he took Kitty out. Besides, there was an old lady with them; could he carry her flying, or running away?

The elderly woman, leading Tiger while being helped along, swaggered with an air of nonchalance, until she was surrounded from all sides by a group of uniformed police officers who arrived on foot. Everyone pointed their guns and shouted, "NYPD, don't move!"

A 92-year-old man like him has seen it all; he wouldn't be scared by the police. Henry isn't afraid of bullets at all. The only thing he's afraid of is not understanding human speech—well, although the Tiger Language Translator is there, Kitty is selective about who she listens to. She doesn't listen to just anyone.

However, the two people and the tiger did not make any violent moves and remained obediently in place.

Henry raised his free hand, but didn't let go of the old man's hand, and said, "Officer, we haven't done anything that would warrant a gun to us, have we?"

"Did you keep the Tiger as your pet? You brought it to a public place; do you realize what wrong you've done?"

Henry replied helplessly, "The Tiger is indeed mine, and I have the legal documents in my backpack. As for bringing it to a public place, what wrong have I committed under New York State law? Using a leash."

Catherine Hepburn readily raised the iron chain in her hand. This thing was much thicker than the chain that Old Black had used to lead his two pit bulls.

"--I collected and cleaned up the animal's excrement, and it didn't hurt anyone. This is a park, and there are no restrictions on animals entering. So I'm curious to ask, what did I do wrong?"

"Who are you? You think you know everything?" "Put down your guns, everyone put down your guns!"

Although the police officer who spoke earlier didn't change his tough stance, a guy with a higher rank and four stars on his shoulder stopped everyone.

Shouldn't someone like that be sitting in an office? How could they possibly be on the scene?

After the boss spoke, most of the officers softened their stance. Some immediately holstered their weapons, but others, still worried about the "Tiger," merely moved their guns away without actually putting them back in their holsters.

At this moment, Kitty, who had just sat down, yawned widely out of sheer boredom. Her sharp teeth gleamed, making the police officers tremble with fear.

The one who gave the order stepped forward a few paces, but then seemed unsure and took a step or two back. He said, "I am the Chief Inspector of Patrol Duties, George Stacy. You say you have legal documents, can I verify that? And who are you two—?"

"I am Henry Brown, and this is Ms. Catherine Hepburn. I am now reaching into my backpack for some documents; please do not misunderstand."

The familiar-sounding chief inspector said, "It really is Ms. Hepburn. I'm a big fan of yours. I apologize for the police's actions earlier. But please understand, after all, you were leading a ferocious beast."

Catherine Hepburn looked aggrieved, scratching the tiger's head as she said, "How could it be a beast? Kitty's just a little chubby, with a big frame. Right, my cute little kitty?"

Hearing this, Henry kicked the Tiger in the backside and said, "See, even Catherine says you're fat. You need to lose weight!"

"Roar!"

I won't do it!

"Hey, how dare you yell at me!" Henry pulled out the documents and was about to hand them to the police when he kicked the Tiger's backside a few more times in frustration.

Those kicks terrified the surrounding police officers. What if the Tiger suddenly attacked and hurt someone?

However, unlike the police who were only worried, Catherine Hepburn slapped Henry's arm! "Don't bully Kitty, you little brat, you're too rough."

Now it was Henry's turn to put on a wronged expression. Having suffered in silence, he handed the documents to George Stacy. "Sir, these are the animal husbandry documents from the New York Zoo, along with the quarantine report, vaccination records, and other materials."

In the first few days after bringing Kitty to New York, Henry was busy getting all the legal documents ready. Only after everything was in order did he agree to let the old lady take Kitty out for her daily walks.

Anyway, with me watching over her, nothing irreparable will happen. At her age, I should just go along with her.

After glancing at the documents briefly, George Stacy couldn't confirm their legitimacy. She could only ascertain from the format and the names of the organizations on the documents that they weren't fabricated before returning them to Henry.

He then asked, "Henry Brown, that name sounds familiar. And you are?"

He put the documents back in his backpack and slung it over his shoulder. Henry replied, "I was previously the CEO of Stark Studios, and I've always been based in Los Angeles. I was one of the investors in the movie * Titanic *, and I spearheaded that project."

"Ah, I remember now. Mr. Brown, but what brings you to New York?"

"I've resigned from Stark Studios and am now Catherine Hepburn's personal assistant. Kitty is my pet. As for my appearance, I think I should change my look a bit, otherwise I'm always looked down upon by those old guys because of my age."

"I understand, Mr. Brown." George Stacy waved her hand behind her back, signaling everyone to put their guns away.

This time, no junior police officer had any objections.

Even a faded movie star is still a movie star. Perhaps she doesn't have much influence anymore when it comes to getting things done. But if she gets bullied by the police and makes a scene in the news, it'll be a frenzy. No police officer can withstand that kind of pressure.

Another CEO or something similar meant the same thing. Basically, as long as you know the other party has plenty of money, that's fine.

In a place like Manhattan, people are just different. Don't blame the police for being snobbish; the reality is that these rich people can afford lawyers and make a mess of their lives.

What If...? the other party has actually committed a crime, making things difficult for them over minor matters is within the scope of one's authority. But if one is looking for trouble for no reason, one should be prepared to be reported by the other party.

However, keeping Tiger, or walking a Tiger on the street, falls into a legal gray area. As long as the Tiger is kept under control and does not harm anyone, there is no way to punish the owner or shoot the Tiger on the grounds of public safety.

Henry, however, looked curiously at the four stars on George Stacy's epaulettes and said, "I didn't know that someone who's already a superintendent still needs to go on field missions?"

George Stacy said with a wry smile, "I received an emergency call from the duty center saying there was a Tiger active in Central Park. You know how many elderly people and young children are in Central Park at this time."

"To prevent a tragedy, almost all the patrolling police officers were called over, and I also personally went to the scene to direct operations. Fortunately, it was just a false alarm, and nothing serious happened."

Oh, what a surprise. In Henry's mind, it was normal to get a scolding from the police in this situation. George Stacy's attitude was unexpected.

However, the chief superintendent still said, "Mr. Brown, although there is no such mandatory requirement, I still hope that you can come to the police station when you have time to register."

"If there are similar police reports in the future, please let us confirm your location to avoid a false alarm like today. Is that alright?"

After thinking for a moment, Henry nodded and said, "No problem, I'll go to the police station when I'm free in the next couple of days. Who should I see, and which police station?"

"Go to the headquarters at One Police Plaza. Find my office, and I'll have my assistant help you with the registration."

"I understand." This is already a special case, and Henry has no reason to disagree.
