Kingo Calls
Henry learned of the events that had occurred in India immediately.
The Nano-Scale Screening Purification Machine trigger a self-destruct mechanism means this is no small matter. That massive thing wouldn't self-destruct from a little bump or knock; someone must have been dismantling the machine to explore its secrets.
When a bright red warning message appeared in the corner of the augmented reality image projected onto the retina, Henry felt that Suja Patel's investigation was over.
Regardless of whether he was involved in this matter or not, the inability to keep his partners in line and prevent them from having any ulterior motives is insufficient to remain by the side of a Kryptonian.
If Henry has to step in and cover for everything, and the assistants he hires can only do simple tasks that even a monkey could do, then Henry might as well just hire a monkey as his assistant; why bother hiring a human?
It's not that they're unwilling to spend money; they're only willing to hire a genius with bananas.
Unsurprisingly, Suja Patel called shortly afterward to urge for more "Filter." He used a threatening tone, making it clear that if the filters weren't delivered, he wouldn't get his previous share.
Henry then blocked the other person and refused to contact them again.
Immediately after, Kingo called, explaining what he knew about the situation. He said regretfully, "I'm sorry, Henry. I didn't know that kid was so easily tempted; he switched sides so readily with a little kickback."
Henry chuckled and said, "It's alright. I never intended to do anything big from the start; I just wanted a place to test the drug's efficacy. Using that little money to get to know someone seems worthwhile."
"Sigh, most of the time, you have to personally oversee any important business you're involved in. If you just think of handing it over to someone you can trust, and then lie at home counting your money, you'll often end up getting swindled and losing everything. Building a business is never that simple."
"Wow, judging from your comments, you seem to have a lot of experience. Experience of being scammed."
Kingo said earnestly, "You know I've lived for seven thousand years, and I've spent most of that time on Earth. I can't just keep my head down and try my luck by fighting Deviants everywhere."
"Apart from Ikaris and Makkari, the rest of us, without transportation, are not much faster than ordinary humans in terms of strategic relocation speed."
Kingo, who was very open with Henry, didn't hide much information about the Eternals from him. At least nine of his comrades, including Thena and Gilgamesh, had introduced them to Henry to avoid any potential conflicts if they encountered each other in the future.
Ikaris is the only one of the ten Eternals with the ability to fly; Makkari is the fastest. The others' long-distance movement speed is roughly equivalent to that of a world-class marathon runner.
The Eternals have a fast movement speed, but it's limited. That's why there's this saying.
"--Therefore, many times we need to rely on human organizations to help us obtain intelligence about the Deviants so that we can go and fight against them."
"Whether we rule with equality or through deceptive means, humanity needs certain benefits to motivate us. We can't just rely on slogans to make them foolishly give their all."
"Since there's cooperation involved, and everyone has their own selfish motives, I guess you can imagine how many bizarre things we'll see over this long period of time."
The only reason humans won't betray you is because you have no value that would allow them to benefit from betrayal. No arguments accepted. Unless you have experience on an equal footing with me and arrive at a different conclusion.
Henry laughed and said, "Ha, friend, since you've put it that way, what else can I say?"
"Don't worry, I can make up for the losses Su Jie caused. What do you need? Money? Or jewelry? Want diamonds better than the Koh-i-Noor? How about I give you a kilogram?"
"It can't be the Sersi brand, can it? I need a ton of it."
Sersi, Eternals, was Ikaris's wife and the only Eternals to have a marital relationship. Other Eternals had almost no sexual desire, only varying degrees of intimacy with those they were close to.
Sersi's ability is matter transformation. She can arbitrarily change the atomic number and molecular structure of any non-living object. According to Kingo, the legend of "turning lead into gold" originated from Sersi.
Faced with Henry's outrageous demands, Kingo laughed and retorted, "Even Sersi couldn't conjure up a ton of diamonds at once, could she? Speaking of which, I haven't seen her in ages. I wonder where she's gone now."
Since the people Henry encounters in this universe are different from those in his movie memories before his time travel, he has no way to help Kingo find people unless the Eternals reveals his identity. If they live under aliases, it's impossible to find them even through the household registration system.
So Henry changed the subject, asking, "By the way, is Karun alright? His nephew caused such a mess. Please tell him I don't mind. Tell him not to take it to heart."
"Okay, I'll tell him. Actually, he's one of the disappointed people too. Karun wanted to remind Su Jie, but that kid just wouldn't listen. In this situation, even telling the truth won't help much. You can understand, right?"
"Yes, I understand. But have you not given the Patel family any important positions? Or is it that only Karun is by your side?"
Kingo explained, "Haha, Kingo Film Company has a history that predates Karun's time with me. Indeed, some members of his family work in the film company."
"But if there are any unsuitable people, I will let them go. However, I will not give everyone the same level of trust as Karun. Your incident has reminded me that quite a few people in their family have become arrogant, and we should be careful."
"Oh, Karun does have a daughter who looks like her mother; she's a beauty and is studying in the United Kingdom. I'm interested in grooming her to succeed Karun and help me in the future."
"Having someone familiar with the situation to help cover for me is much easier than having to play dead for a while every few years and then pretend to be my own son."
"Are you short-handed? I'll have Amika help you out first. Anyway, Karun can still work for a while, there's no rush to retire him. You can just consider it helping me train that little girl."
Henry politely declined, saying, "That won't be necessary. If she's still studying, let her focus on her studies. I don't have any good jobs for her right now. It would be a waste to have someone capable of managing a film company and being your housekeeper around."
Kingo jokingly asked, "Really not? Although she's brown-skinned, she studied in the United Kingdom from a young age, so her manners and taste are quite good."
"Is it really necessary? Why do I have this feeling of 'I want to be your friend, but you want to be my father-in-law'? That little girl isn't your daughter, is she?"
Kingo laughed and said, "Haha, don't tell Karun that, he'll fight you to the death, he doesn't care if you're Kryptonian or not. His wife was someone he went through a lot of trouble to win over, she has nothing to do with me."
"That little girl is one of my biggest fans, and she speaks so sweetly. It wouldn't be right for me not to take care of her. Besides, it's not like I'm asking you to marry her, I'm just asking her to be a helper."
"Let's see how things go. I don't have any work right now where she can showcase her talents. We'll talk about it when I really need help."
"Alright."
