Ambush

At dawn, Henry led Cathy and the other three to the planned ambush site for Ezekiel Sims and the mercenary squad.

Henry first took them around to inspect the general locations where the traps had been set. The area was fairly large, and the rainforest vegetation was too dense to move around everywhere, so he could only give them a rough overview.

But these girls had all grown up in the city. They only thought setting traps was cool and could not understand the difficulty of arranging them or how lethal they could be.

After all, looking at a single trap, every girl felt it would be easy to avoid. Even if they could not, at worst they would be injured. It should not be fatal.

Perhaps because they had only just gained extraordinary abilities, the girls' confidence was swelling. Whether that confidence was merely a bubble waiting to burst, at least they seemed enthusiastic rather than anxious and terrified.

Neither emotion was as good as keeping a cool head, but being confident in facing the coming challenge was better than thinking they were doomed before it even began.

After splitting off from Henry and the others, the girls leaped onto the treetops. They familiarized themselves with the terrain first, then ran to a concealed spot near the riverbank and waited for the enemy to appear. As Henry had instructed, they were not to attack the moment they saw someone. They had to wait until the enemy had ventured deep inside and begun triggering the traps before making their move.

Even then, they were not to confront people armed with firearms head-on. They first had to stealthily pick off careless or isolated members, steadily reducing the enemy's numbers. Only after they were exposed would they slowly maneuver around them.
