Background / History

Failed Foundation Establishment and the Ji Family

Ji Haoyuan failed twice while attempting Foundation Establishment, becoming the source of the Ji Family’s lost hopes and resentment. For fifty years after one failed attempt, he worked for the declining family to repay what he believed he owed them; its industries and influence had fallen by more than half during that period. 1 2

Refusing to abandon his pursuit of the Dao, he entered death seclusion with resources from the Family Treasury. He told his elder brother Ji Haohuan that he would not regret the attempt or blame the clan regardless of its outcome. 2 3

At one hundred years old, Ji Haoyuan successfully established his foundation. The breakthrough restored his appearance to that of a man in his early thirties and proved the endurance of his Dao Heart to the Ji Family. 5

Defender and Leader of the Ji Family

After his breakthrough, Ji Haoyuan pledged to protect the Ji Family for as long as he lived. Ji Bochang entrusted him with resources and later formally declared that Ji Haoyuan’s will would be the will of the entire family. 6 18

He secured Luohe Market Town by killing a Foundation Establishment attacker, publicly displaying the attackers’ corpses, and investigating the possibility that the Sun Family sought Ganyang Mountain’s Spiritual Vein. 11

When the Han Family contested the Cloud Iron Ore Vein, Ji Haoyuan defeated and crippled Han Pengshan. He deliberately declined to pursue him, judging that doing so would provoke a full clan war. 20 21 Han Penghu later ambushed Ji Haoyuan and Ji Bochang with four other Foundation Establishment cultivators; Ji Haoyuan killed all five and led the Ji Family’s retaliatory campaign against the Han Family. 50

Expansion and Sect Connections

Ji Haoyuan mastered formations after studying the damaged defenses at the Cloud Iron Ore Vein, becoming a Tier 1 low-grade Formation Master. He later elevated alchemy, artifact refinement, talismans, formations, and spirit-plant cultivation to the Second Order using the Han Family’s inherited materials and purchased Jade Slips. 20 62

After forming his Golden Core, he established a future plan for the Ji Family: retain Ganyang Mountain and Cloud Cave Mountain as branch courtyards while relocating selected relatives and allied cultivators to Heaven Piercing Valley’s Third-Order Spirit Land. 134 135
