Background / History
Lian Yin serves as Su Qing's closest maid and initially holds enough influence to press him to receive the rain-soaked Qin Lan Shan. She frames the request as necessary to protect the Realm Protectorate's reputation, but privately feels guilty about deceiving Su Qing. 1
Her prior connection to Ye Qinglan is deliberately obscured. After witnessing Su Qing's treatment of Qin Lan Shan, Lian Yin begins questioning her cooperation with the Goddess; the change in Su Qing's demeanor both unsettles and attracts her. 4 Su Qing remains wary because the Realm Protectorate cannot uncover her background. 22
As Qin Lan Shan becomes closer to Su Qing, Lian Yin's insecurity turns into open jealousy. She seeks his attention, resents being left behind, and competes to preserve her place at his side. 9 13 20 21
When Su Qing captures Ye Qinglan, Lian Yin assists him while pretending not to recognize the Goddess. She disguises her voice to avoid exposure, then watches her former associate's humiliation erode the reverence she once held for her. 27 28 Later, she benefits from Ye Qinglan's escape because it removes a rival for Su Qing's attention. 30
Appearance
Lian Yin is described as a delicate, lively-eyed maid who commonly wears a light-green dress. 1 21
- Bright, expressive eyes and a deliberately pitiful demeanor. 1
- Fair calves visible beneath her maid attire. 21
- Identified as a Fox Spirit through her ability to recognize another fox spirit by scent. 45
Personality
Lian Yin is coquettish, expressive, and skilled at presenting herself as an aggrieved but devoted servant. She frequently softens demands with pouting, pleading, or feigned helplessness, while privately pursuing her own interests. 1 7 21
Her attachment to Su Qing is possessive. Rather than accepting Qin Lan Shan or Chen Chu Ci as fellow residents, she views them as threats and attempts to redirect Su Qing's attention or turn the women against one another. 13 20 45
Despite her manipulative tendencies, Lian Yin is adaptable and cautious. She conceals her connection to Ye Qinglan when exposed to danger, changes her voice to preserve her cover, and readily accepts responsibilities when Su Qing appeals to her reliability. 27 50
