Background / History

Hogwarts initially operates as a traditional magical school under Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, issuing Horatio Quibble his acceptance letter and receiving him as a first-year student 1. Its four-house system later becomes strained by Horatio’s disruptions, dangerous experiments, and increasingly unconventional educational reforms.

The castle suffers major physical damage during Bellocan’s attack; students and staff return to rubble, broken walls, and active fires before beginning reconstruction 55. Its institutional structure changes more radically when Horatio relocates Azkaban to the Black Lake and incorporates its prisoners as students of the new Azkaban Academy 76 77.

Horatio subsequently acquires the relics of Hogwarts’ four founders and uses them to form an ownership contract with the castle. Unlike prior headmasters, who merely held rights of use, Horatio becomes its owner and “fifth founder” 127.

Appearance

In its ordinary state, Hogwarts is an ancient castle containing the Great Hall, student common rooms, classrooms, and the Headmaster’s office. Its Headmaster’s office is accessed through a gargoyle-guarded entrance and contains portraits of former headmasters and a perch for Fawkes 11.

When mobilized, the castle adopts a fortress-like, spacecraft configuration.
