Background / History

Hermione first encounters Horatio Quibble aboard the Hogwarts Express while searching for Neville Longbottom’s missing toad, Trevor. Frustrated that Horatio had already studied under Nicolas Flamel before enrolling, she introduces herself and promises that she will surpass him after entering Hogwarts. 7

At Hogwarts, Hermione is sorted into Gryffindor and develops a competitive academic dynamic with Horatio. She successfully performs the Levitation Charm after his demonstration and is the first first-year in their Transfiguration class to alter her matchstick. 13 14

Although Hermione initially tries to keep Horatio from breaking rules, she repeatedly becomes involved in his schemes.
