Background / History

During the Kannabi Bridge mission, Obito was crushed by falling boulders while saving Kakashi Hatake. Still alive but near death, he gave Kakashi his right Sharingan before Kakashi and Rin buried him beneath the rubble. He was later rescued and reconstructed with White Zetsu tissue, which preserved his life and granted him access to Wood Release. 542 614

While recovering in an underground cave, Obito trained relentlessly, believing that the power of his Sharingan would allow him to protect Rin, whom he considered his “everything.” Rin's death subsequently triggered his Mangekyo Sharingan, but his lack of mastery left him vulnerable during his early confrontation with Qi Shuang. 127 147

Obito later adopted the identity Tobi, concealed himself behind an orange spiral mask, and became a leading figure in Akatsuki. He recruited and tested Uchiha Itachi, using missions in the Land of Water to evaluate Itachi's loyalties while gathering intelligence on Kirigakure. 361

His actions against Kirigakure were driven by revenge and by his wider plans. He led ambushes during the Kirigakure Civil War, fought Qi Shuang repeatedly, and killed Zabuza and Haku. However, Qi Shuang and Mei Terumi forced him into a stalemate by exploiting the limitations of his Space-Time Ninjutsu. 452 460 474

Qi Shuang used Rin's reanimated body and remains to compel Obito into an oath: he would leave Kirigakure and never harass it again in exchange for Rin. Obito agreed, but continued seeking a means to restore Rin permanently through the Rinnegan's resurrection technique. 475 476

His fixation on Rin caused growing distrust within Akatsuki. After attempting to assassinate Nagato for the Rinnegan, Obito was hindered by Black Zetsu's possession and was later expelled from the organization. 668 670

Obito was ultimately fatally stabbed through the heart by Rin. Before dying, he used Sharingan genjutsu to show Kakashi his memories and offered his remaining Sharingan to help Kakashi fight Akatsuki. 689

Personality

Obito is calculating, manipulative, and highly confident in the defensive power of his Mangekyo Sharingan. He recruits useful subordinates despite suspecting their motives, viewing even a possible spy as an asset so long as they continue serving the organization. 361

His overriding weakness is his obsession with Rin Nohara. Although he presents plans for a new world and peace, Black Zetsu recognizes that Obito's true goal is reunion with Rin rather than loyalty to an ideal. This attachment repeatedly makes him vulnerable to manipulation, negotiation, and eventual betrayal of Akatsuki. 466 476 670

He is also deeply resentful of Konoha and Minato Namikaze, visiting Minato and Kushina's grave to vow Konoha's destruction. He later admits responsibility for the Nine-Tails incident, whose aftermath contributed to the Uchiha clan's isolation and eventual destruction. 268 542
