Background / History
Kujo Iruka was once Imperial Capital University’s strongest Valkyrie and a Rule-based Ability User regarded as one of the Empire’s hopes. Saion Sagara served as her team leader and teacher, personally teaching Iruka archery; Sagara also trained Iruka’s younger sister, Kujo Ryuko. Before her fall, Iruka planned to take Ryuko to an amusement park after completing a mission. 142 466
Twenty years before the main story, Iruka investigated Anomaly activity in a village. She used a Certain Hit arrow to destroy a giant bird and recovered black gears scattered across the town—objects later identified as Anomalous Activation Devices. During the disaster, she faced a woman influenced by an Anomaly and the woman’s child, who transformed into a Chimera. Iruka hesitated to attack the child but ultimately killed it to stop the threat. 477 479
The Assault Department found Iruka in a burning village surrounded by Anomaly, walking-corpse, and civilian bodies. Although her Conceptual Weapon was shattered, her physical wounds had already healed; her eyes had changed into dark-gold vertical pupils on black sclera. She had fallen into Anomaly. Saion Sagara attempted to reach her, but Iruka attacked amid the standoff. 465 466
The circumstances of the fall remain contested. Evidence indicates that the Eye of Insight was active at the scene, had planted Anomalous Activation Devices throughout the village, and may have engineered Iruka’s collapse. Su Youzi later identifies an Assault Department member aiming at Saion Sagara during the incident, supporting the possibility that Iruka’s apparent attack was not directed at her former teacher. 468 475 482
After entering the Abyss, Iruka became the Abyss of Eternal Smile. Her Erosion Domain never deactivated, and its movement could be tracked by satellite; settlements in its path could only be evacuated. Saint Michael ultimately sacrificed herself to block Iruka outside Tokyo, though Tokyo still lost extensive territory. 375
Appearance
Iruka resembles Kujo Ryuko but carries a more mature and predatory presence. She has excessively pale skin, lightly wavy light-purple hair that reaches her ankles, and striking eyes that change with her condition. 380 457 550
- Anomaly eyes — dark-gold vertical pupils set against black sclera. 466
- Post-recruitment eyes — deep blue while living as a human again. 454 457
- Authority-restored eyes — crimson after reclaiming the Garan Principle. 550 565
- Wings — jet-black wings emerge from her lower back rather than her shoulders; they are manifestations of her Calamity Crystal. 381 398
- Anomaly attire — initially wears only sparse fabric, a stocking on her right leg, and slender high heels, reflecting her status as a high-sequence Anomaly. 380
- Preferred clothing — often adopts military-style, ceremonial, or formal uniforms, including a peaked cap, trench coat, and over-the-knee boots. 381 403
- Ascended form — her combat suit transforms into a fish-tail gown accompanied by azure wings. 730
Personality
Iruka is proud, stubborn, and accustomed to treating weaker opponents as beneath her. During her years of isolation as an Anomaly, she found the world unbearably boring and became intensely possessive of the people and things that held her attention. She enjoys praise, teasing, and forcing Su Youzi to give her undivided attention. 381 387
Despite her arrogance, Iruka retains strong attachments. Her concern for Ryuko remained powerful even after her fall, and the loss of a music box connected to Ryuko affected both her morale and combat performance. Her decision to return toward Tokyo was driven partly by her hometown and younger sister. 377
Her former Valkyrie self was compassionate enough to hesitate before harming a transformed child, and her later actions show that this compassion was not fully erased. After being recruited, she becomes increasingly protective of Su Youzi, repeatedly telling her to seek help rather than face danger alone. 479 480 550
Iruka struggles with genuine kindness and trust. She expects betrayal or manipulation, yet Su Youzi’s treatment gradually makes her accept Su Youzi as her “Goddess of Destiny.” 454 711
Abilities & Skills
Certain Hit Archery
Iruka’s original Rule-based Ability was Certain Hit, making her one of the Empire’s foremost archers.
- Was trained in archery by Saion Sagara. 142
- Could perform seemingly impossible shots, including firing an arrow at the moon. 468
- Destroyed a giant bird with a Certain Hit arrow during the village incident. 477
- Fired an arrow through Tsukuyomi Fuyu’s chest during the ambush on her forces. 420
- Her Operator profile lists Divine Arrow as an available Talent. 444
Garan Principle / Jialan
Iruka’s Abyss-derived Authority, commonly called Garan Principle or Jialan, is a Rule-based power that can reverse cause and effect.
- Reverses causality by turning consequences into causes. 468
- Allows rapid blinking and movement across a battlefield. 422
- Restores her injuries with extraordinary speed, even after her wings are damaged or torn apart. 421 422
- Was described as having no practical usage limit in reality, unlike its limited game counterpart. 422
- Can be suppressed by Saint Michael’s Word Spirit: Light and by specialized God-Slaying weapons. 431 444
- Iruka willingly entrusted this Authority to Su Youzi despite regarding it as uniquely hers. 565 711
Erosion Domain
Iruka’s Erosion Domain is an Abyss-like territory that made her a mobile natural disaster.
- Has never deactivated since its first deployment. 375
- Is largely harmless to the Animal Forest but catastrophic to humanity. 375
- Can be detected through satellite imagery, allowing authorities to evacuate towns in its path. 375
- Blocks most conventional technological functions while active. 413
- Manifests as a dark, rift-like abyss during combat. 395
Calamity Aura and Anomaly Physiology
As a Seventh Sequence Anomaly, Iruka possessed overwhelming physical power and a destructive Calamity Aura.
- A clash between her Seat and another Seat could contaminate an academy and surrounding residential districts. 377
- Her loss of control after Su Youzi bit her wing released enough power to strengthen nearby Anomaly girls. 398
- Her wings were exceptionally durable; even Saint Michael’s Holy Light had failed to penetrate her defenses in the past. 398
- The wings are also a vulnerability: damage to them provoked an extreme emotional and power reaction. 398
Abyssal Twilight and Operator Traits
After recruitment, Iruka’s Operator profile retained several abilities despite her sealed condition.
- Abyssal Twilight is listed as an active Innate Ability. 444
- Fleeting Shadow of the World’s End and Flower of the Dark Night are listed as sealed Talents. 444
- Silent Abyss is listed as a lost Abyss Innate Ability after recruitment. 444
- Her former Abyss became a prison controlled by Su Youzi, where Iruka was held after her defeat. 443 453
Reality Construction and Memory Projection
After returning from the Abyss, Iruka gained the ability to construct reality and dissolve causality for memory projection.
- Can show Su Youzi events exactly as Iruka experienced them. 480
- Could not explain how a dying woman in the memory recognized and greeted Su Youzi, indicating the memory contained an outside interference beyond Iruka’s control. 480
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Redemption’s Other Shore — Iruka’s former exclusive Conceptual Weapon, a suit of golden armor used during her Valkyrie years. 464
- Redemption’s Other Shore fragment — a surviving breastplate fragment later held by Su Youzi; its existence is kept secret due to the danger surrounding Iruka’s past. 464 469
- Bow and arrows — used with her Certain Hit ability and later Divine Arrow Talent. 468 477
- Garan Principle — her central Authority, temporarily held by Su Youzi before Iruka recovered and returned it. 550 565
- Dagger entrusted to Kujo Ryuko — given before Forced Ascension so Ryuko could kill Iruka if she lost control. 729
Relationships
- Su Youzi — Initially an adversary and target of Iruka’s possessiveness; Su Youzi later recruits her as an Operator, strips her Anomaly identity to save her, and becomes the person Iruka recognizes as her Goddess of Destiny. 375 443 444 711
- Kujo Ryuko — Her younger sister. Their relationship combines deep attachment, resentment, and violence; Iruka’s concern for Ryuko endured even through her Anomaly years. 377 419 729
- Saion Sagara — Iruka’s former teacher and team leader at Imperial Capital University. Sagara trained her in archery and remains devastated by her fall. 142 466
- Lian — Iruka’s attendant and adjutant, a Fifth Sequence Anomaly. Iruka reacts possessively when Su Youzi becomes close to Lian. 400 411 414
- Saint Michael — Her long-standing enemy. Saint Michael sacrificed herself to keep Iruka out of Tokyo, and her Word Spirit later severely restricted Iruka’s recovery. 375 444
- Unohana Chiyo — A former Death Warrior who fought Iruka and helped Su Youzi defeat her. 443 490
- Miss Hayabusa — Ryuko’s caretaker, who recognizes Iruka and harbors clear resentment over the harm Iruka’s fall caused Ryuko. 461 473
- Yarai Kenha — A former Cleanup Squad captain whose connection to Taurus Metal makes her relevant to the investigation into Iruka’s fall. 490 498
- Chiba Asakusa — Iruka’s subordinate, associated with the Chiba Grass Conglomerate’s unusually secure intercity convoys. 529
Story Role / Major Arcs
Return to Tokyo
After Saint Michael’s protective radiance began to weaken, Iruka infiltrated Tokyo and Shiritsu Megumi Garden Academy. She waited in Su Youzi’s dormitory, claiming she had returned to visit her hometown and see Ryuko, while immediately taking an intense interest in Su Youzi. 228 377 380
Conflict with Su Youzi
Iruka’s initial encounters with Su Youzi were defined by overwhelming power imbalance, teasing, and possessiveness. When Su Youzi finally fought back, their Seats and Rules clashed; Su Youzi’s attack on Iruka’s wings triggered a catastrophic Calamity Aura but also revealed that Iruka hesitated to seriously harm her. 395 396 398
Recruitment and Imprisonment
Su Youzi entered Iruka’s Abyss through Fated Draw and recruited her as an Operator. Because Saint Michael’s Word Spirit left Iruka critically injured, Su Youzi removed Iruka’s Anomaly identity to save her, making her dependent on Su Youzi and confining her in the Silent Abyss. 443 444
Investigation into Her Fall
After Iruka’s release, Su Youzi investigates the village disaster and learns that Anomalous Activation Devices and the Eye of Insight were likely involved. Iruka recognizes the black gear connected to the incident and assists in tracing Taurus Alloy and Yarai Kenha’s Cleanup Squad records. 475 490 491
Protector of Su Youzi
Iruka regains the Garan Principle when Su Youzi is critically injured by the God Slayer unit. She battles to protect Su Youzi, transcending the human–Anomaly divide, and later accepts responsibility for failing to prevent Su Youzi’s injuries. 550 556
Forced Ascension
To save Su Youzi, Iruka attempts Forced Ascension and entrusts Ryuko with a dagger in case she must be killed. The process nearly draws her back into the Abyss but culminates in a transformed form with azure wings. 729 730
