Jason took two slow steps forward and aimed his gun at Scarecrow's forehead again.
"Did you think I wouldn't kill you?"
Hearing that, Scarecrow suddenly laughed.
"Looks like Joker wasn't a complete failure after all. He created something like you—can you still call yourself Robin?"
"You think that means you've won?"
"Hahahahaha... My gas will become this city's nightmare! Hahahahaha!"
Bang—!
Jason cleanly blew Scarecrow's head apart.
He hurried to the central computer and discovered that the bomb's countdown had already begun. Fortunately, it was controlled by the computer.
Jason used the intelligent AI in his suit again. In less than a few minutes, he cracked the computer and disarmed the bomb. But could things really be that simple?
Scarecrow's final words lingered in his mind.
Jason could not make sense of Scarecrow's meaning, but Dane understood perfectly. His backup plan was Barbara.
While Batman had been searching the city for the Fear Gas factory and Scarecrow, Scarecrow had already dispatched a team to Clock Tower Base to capture Barbara.
But until his death, Scarecrow never knew that Dane had planted a piece at the Clock Tower first.
Barbara had limited mobility. By the time she realized she was in danger, heavily armed Mercenaries had already broken through the door.
Just as despair washed over her, Damian, dressed like a ninja, suddenly leaped out of the darkness.
He was like a shadow. As he leaped and danced, all that could be seen were the flashes of his twin blades.
They were flowers of death, a dance of slaughter.
In less than five minutes, Damian had slaughtered an elite Mercenaries squad to the last man.
Barbara quietly backed away and pulled out the small pistol hidden beneath her wheelchair.
"Who are you?"
"The one saving you." Damian was as arrogant as ever.
For some reason, Barbara found that tone strangely familiar.
And she could tell that the short figure before her was just a child.
"How... old are you?"
Damian stiffened, then snapped angrily, "That's none of your business!"
He tapped the touchscreen on his arm and said,
"I've rescued the target. It's no longer safe here."
"Take her to Wayne Manor. There's nowhere safer than that."
"Oh, and confiscate her communicator. Let your father think she's gone missing!"
"You really are a bastard. But I like that idea. How are we getting back, though? There are still plenty of soldiers on the streets."
He himself did not care, but what about Barbara?
"Do you remember how you and Jason got to Gotham? You have one of those Bracelets too."
Damian quickly checked. Before long, a Bracelet-shaped piece of equipment assembled itself from nanomaterials around his wrist.
He complained, "This is scientific, but it isn't magical!"
Joking aside, Damian had never seen anything like it before, but his standards were not low. He understood what it meant for technology and magic to be combined.
He knew that the League of Assassins possessed a "holy relic" known as the Lazarus Pit. Soaking in it could grant one an immortal body.
It was said that when the League of Assassins' leader died in battle against Batman, he had relied on that pool to come back to life.
Yet his grandfather, Ra's al Ghul, had possessed that "holy relic" for centuries and still had not fully understood its mysteries, much less found a way to harness its power through technology.
So although Damian did not show it openly, he was deeply wary of Dane.
Following the instructions, he confiscated Barbara's communication devices, which infuriated her.
"Hey! You can't do that!"
Damian ignored her. He grabbed Barbara with one hand and activated the Bracelet with the other.
With a whoosh, the two vanished from where they stood.
His Bearing Was Like That of a God
Damian and Barbara teleported back to Wayne Manor in an instant, where Dane was already waiting for them.
"What is it?" Damian asked.
"Nothing. I need to tell you something. Scarecrow is dead. Your second brother took him out."
"Second brother? Who? Jason? He's not my brother!"
"Who exactly are you people?"
Barbara watched the scene before her, still shaken.
Of course she recognized this place. This was Wayne Manor. She had come here often in the past for training.
"Let me introduce you. This kid is Damian Wayne, the future legal heir of Wayne Enterprises."
"He's also Bruce Wayne's biological son."
"That's impossible!"
Barbara was stunned.
"Bruce has never mentioned this."
"Because he doesn't know!"
Damian pressed his arm, and the mask retracted into his suit, revealing his displeased expression.
Barbara wavered, because the boy's face looked exactly like Bruce's. He was practically a miniature version of him.
Damian then said something outrageous.
"After Bruce had his fun with my mother, he pulled up his pants and ran. My mother gave birth to me at my grandfather's home."
Barbara looked awkward, because she realized that really was something Bruce might have done.
Bruce's public identity was that of a playboy. No one could say for certain that he had never had an accident.
She could only change the subject and look at Dane.
"Then who are you? Why are you in Bruce's house?"
"I have two identities. One is Dane Davis, a wealthy tycoon and the president of Pioneer Technology. You may have heard of me."
"My other identity is Shazam. Well... you could say I'm a demigod."
"I represent the Justice League. I came to invite Bruce to join us."
Barbara examined him closely and finally remembered.
She had seen him in the news before. Dane was said to be the fastest-rising billionaire of the past year.
She had only glanced at the report and never paid it much attention.
As Batman's personal secretary, she devoted more of her energy to fighting criminals.
But Shazam? A demigod? And what the hell was the Justice League?
Barbara wanted to suspect that the man before her was insane, but when she recalled the supernatural event of herself and Damian being teleported here instantly, she was suddenly not so sure.
At that moment, Alfred hurried upstairs. When he saw Barbara, he froze, then cried out in surprise,
"Miss Barbara, you're here!"
"What happened, Alfred?"
Alfred's delighted expression suddenly changed again, and he said anxiously,
"Master Wayne hadn't been able to contact you for a long time. He thought Scarecrow's people had captured you, so..."
"So he charged into the criminals' hideout alone and got himself stuck in a hard fight there?"
Dane suddenly cut in, and Alfred quickly nodded.
"Where is he?"
"Penguin's Northern Ice Plant."
"I see..."
Dane lowered his head and glanced at his watch.
"It's almost time for our appointment with Bruce. Looks like he's let himself go these past few years. He can't handle this situation himself."
He suddenly said, "Clark, you heard that, right? Tell Diana to come up too."
"Who are you talking to?"
Damian looked baffled, but moments later, Clark and Diana arrived before them at super speed.
"So, we finally have something to do?"
Clark looked excited. Diana said nothing, but her face held the same anticipation.
Dane complained, "Actually, in our line of work, no missions are the best kind of missions."
Clark lowered his head somewhat sheepishly. He had only made an appearance once during the incident with Joker, and Joker had still escaped, so the matter had been bothering him.
Dane returned to the subject.
"Back to business. Batman can't contain this incident. We have to intervene directly. Superman, go to the Northern Ice Plant and rescue him."
"Leave it to me!" Clark said confidently.
"Hmph. You certainly look the part, but can you really do it, big guy?"
Damian slipped back into his habitual mocking.
But Clark did not take his barbed words to heart.
He had received more cold looks than he could count while growing up, but none of them had ever broken his spirit.
Besides, this was only a child's teasing.
Clark still did not know that this child could slaughter an entire group of heavily armed Mercenaries by himself.
He smiled at Damian, then tore off his outer coat, revealing the Blue Suit beneath.
"I'm off, then."
With that, Clark's feet suddenly lifted off the ground, and he floated in midair as though gravity had disappeared.
Damian's eyes went wide. Alfred and Barbara did not look any better, both staring in utter shock.
Clark moved, shooting out the window with a whoosh.
"Then what's my assignment?" Diana asked.
Dane reached behind his back and pulled out a capsule-shaped container the size of an arm. It was filled with an unknown blue liquid.
"Scarecrow planted a Project Rain device in Simon Stark's company. He plans to spread his Fear Gas throughout the city."
"This capsule contains a neutralizing agent for the gas. Put it into Project Rain, and it will neutralize the gas."
"Understood."
Diana's response was brief and direct.
Damian looked at Diana. "Don't tell me you can do that too?"
Diana smiled at him, and it was devastating enough to charm not only men, but nearly Barbara as well.
With a wave of her hand, her women's trench coat flew away, revealing ancient armor underneath.
She had learned how to fly as early as 1984. Though she could not fly as freely as Dane or Clark, it was more than enough for traveling.
Most importantly, the principles behind her flight completely defied common sense.
