"It wasn't time for me to step into the spotlight yet, so I'd probably keep hiding for a while longer. But I'd thought of some things I needed to do."
Dane had just figured something out. Since Zod's invasion of Earth would be a global disaster, why did he have to choose to fight Superman one-on-one?
No one had ever said the Justice League had to wait until Steppenwolf arrived before it could be formed. He could set the stage ahead of time!
But he needed to choose the members carefully. First, he had to bring in Wonder Woman. Her combat strength was not to be underestimated.
More importantly, Wonder Woman was not softhearted. When it was time to kill, she acted without hesitation.
Then there was Batman. He was eight years older than Superman, so he should have been at the peak of his strength right now.
But the man was naturally suspicious, so inviting him probably would not be easy.
Aquaman Arthur Curry. If Dane remembered correctly, Aquaman was only nineteen right now, even more immature than Clark.
Although Zod probably would not arrive until 2013, Arthur's abilities, honestly, would likely only let him play a supporting role in the matter of Zod. Put him on hold for now.
The Flash Barry Allen was too young right now, and he would not gain his abilities until 2013. There would not even be time for him to adjust before being shoved onto the battlefield.
Even Dane could not bring himself to do that. Put him on hold too.
Cyborg Victor Stone was in a similar situation to The Flash, so he would be put on hold for now as well.
Martian Manhunter. Dane could not quite figure out what that Martian was thinking, but he could try inviting him. It would not cost him anything.
Green Lantern Hal Jordan, hmm...
Although the DCEU had kicked him out of the circle, considering this was a real world, Dane had to consider the possibility of bringing Green Lantern into the fold.
As long as more than three members of the Green Lantern Corps did not gather in one place, they were pretty reliable.
And if Green Lantern really appeared, then the first truly global disaster Earth faced would actually be his.
Finally, Superman. Dane did not even need to ask. If Clark was still the person Dane remembered, he would definitely agree.
So Dane did not bother with any empty formalities and directly invited Superman.
"Clark, there are actually many people like us in this world."
"I was thinking, could we gather them all together? When we face major disasters that individual strength cannot solve, we could unite, cooperate, and solve the problem together."
"That's a great idea!"
Clark immediately agreed. The first thing that came to mind was Zod.
After hearing Dane's explanation, he knew Zod had a group of elite Kryptonians under him. Even if he and Dane could ultimately solve the problem on their own, how many innocent civilians would die?
"Then are you willing to join?" Dane asked.
"What are you talking about? Of course I'll be the first to join!"
Good. The first member was settled.
"Do you have any other candidates?"
"I do, but finding them might be troublesome, and they may not agree."
Clark nodded in understanding. He knew very well that not everyone was willing to use their power to do good.
Dane told him roughly about several future members of the Justice League, and Clark fell into thought after listening.
"Let's leave Barry Allen and Victor Stone out for now. They're still children, and having superpowers might not necessarily be a good thing for them."
Clark absolutely had the right to speak on that matter. After all, in order to hide Clark's abilities, his adoptive father Jonathan had even refused to let Clark save him.
Dane nodded in understanding. "I think so too, which is why I think our first target should be Diana."
"As the world's first superhero, she should understand our ideals."
Diana had remained active in human society ever since World War I, and acts of heroism were practically routine for her.
She had even taken part in World War II, making her a true war hero.
She should have been Earth's earliest superhero, but after entering the new millennium, Wonder Woman had become less active.
On top of that, she kept a low profile, so people quickly forgot about her.
Clark had heard Dane talk about Diana, and he agreed with inviting the woman.
"Batman in Gotham... I think I've heard of him."
Clark had been traveling around the world lately. Although he had not been to Gotham yet, he had heard some rumors.
Before meeting Dane, he had originally planned to find time to visit Gotham.
After all, Batman's exploits sounded anything but ordinary.
"We can wait on him for now. Batman is naturally suspicious. If you march right up to his door so openly, I'm afraid he'll be planning how to deal with you by the next day."
Dane shook his head and suppressed Clark's restless urge to act.
Just as the two were discussing the future organizational structure of the Justice League, Martha returned from grocery shopping.
Dane and Clark promptly stopped the conversation and got up to help Martha.
Martha had originally intended to make Dane, as a guest, sit down, but he and Clark were men with super speed. Washing and preparing vegetables took them no more than the blink of an eye, so she said nothing more.
But Martha's impression of Dane improved even further.
After the three had eaten and drunk their fill, they chatted for a while. Dane did his best to avoid revealing his real information. It was necessary to stay cautious.
Finally, Dane went to sleep in the guest room.
A Bowl of Chicken Soup Simmered for Twenty-Five Years
Early the next morning, after retrieving the key, Dane and Clark bade Martha farewell and flew north toward the Arctic.
Dane only knew that the ship was near the Arctic Circle, but he did not know its exact location.
But that was not much of a problem. Clark had X-Ray Vision, and the ice was little more than decoration to him.
Of course, Dane was not slacking off either. He used the Tracking Spell to roughly narrow down the area, and it turned out to be within Canada.
In less than an hour, they found the ship beneath roughly three hundred meters of ice.
Clark was excited. When he saw that ship, he felt a powerful sensation in his heart that it belonged to his family.
If Dane had known what he was thinking, he would have agreed with his instinct.
According to the DCEU setting, this exploration ship had belonged to Kara Zor-El—not Supergirl—the ancestor of the House of El.
It was one of the first Vanguard ships sent out twenty thousand years ago, when Krypton had only just begun space exploration.
Although it sounded ancient, the technology aboard was still far beyond anything Earth could currently hope to match.
Before arriving on Earth, the ship had explored at least one hundred thousand worlds and collected and recorded their knowledge.
Dane had an idea at that moment. He wanted to learn the knowledge stored aboard the ship.
The Wisdom of Solomon had given him intelligence and learning ability far beyond ordinary people. It would be a waste not to use it.
Right, Billy Batson?
Although he was a god on the magic side, that did not stop him from learning technology.
The upper limit of Sci-Magic Dual Cultivation was higher. Doctor Doom from Marvel next door had even reached multiversal level.
That showed just how broad the prospects of this path were.
Clark used Heat Vision to clear the way. Soon, they passed through the ice and saw a ship that looked very much like a beetle.
Its upper and lower sections were frozen in ice, but its hatch was wide open.
Perhaps sensing someone approaching, a half-human-height control platform floated out from inside the doorway.
It was small and exquisite, with a diamond-shaped triangular hole in its center.
Clark looked at the thing thoughtfully, completely unaware that something resembling a Metapod had floated behind him.
But Dane did not freeze up. He raised a finger, and a flash of blazing white lightning shot out, instantly piercing the "Metapod."
Only then did Clark turn around and see the mechanical creation with a hole punched through it.
He turned back and looked at Dane gratefully.
"Protect yourself. You're not this ship's master yet."
Clark took out the key, inserted it into the slot without hesitation, and pressed it once.
At once, the two of them felt the entire ship light up.
Clark was somewhat dazed, and Dane coughed at the right moment.
"Clark..."
"Oh, right."
Clark immediately came back to himself and hurriedly told the control platform, "Do not transmit any signals. Maintain radio silence!"
The platform's breathing light flickered once, then went out.
Clark looked at Dane with a questioning expression.
Dane gave him a thumbs-up.
At that moment, a third person suddenly appeared in their field of vision. He stood there silently, watching them.
"Did you see him?"
Clark pointed over there, his tone somewhat incredulous.
"Of course. My eyesight is good."
Dane nodded. He knew that man was Superman's biological father.
The man stood there for a moment, then suddenly walked deeper into the ship.
"Please wait!"
Clark immediately chased after him, and Dane followed as well.
The man seemed to be guiding them, leading the two all the way to the cockpit, where there was a single-seat pilot's chair.
Clark searched for a while without finding the man. Then he saw the pilot's chair rise upward, and the cabin suddenly became spacious.
The man who had just guided them here stood in the center, as if he had been there from the beginning.
He looked at Clark, his eyes filled with undisguised love and tenderness.
Then he looked at Dane, seemingly judging whether he posed a threat, but he quickly lowered his guard.
Because Clark took the initiative to introduce Dane. "He's my friend, Dane. You... you are..."
Clark did not quite dare to say it, but the man gently spoke the words Clark had left unfinished.
"I am your father, Kal-El."
"I'm very pleased to see that you've grown into an adult. If only Lara could have seen it with her own eyes."
Although Dane had already told him, Clark was still extremely excited, and he could not help asking:
"I... who exactly am I?"
"Your name is Kal-El. I am the shadow of your father, Jor-El—his consciousness, or perhaps his memories."
"I have many questions I want to ask."
"Of course. I will answer them one by one."
As Jor-El spoke, the nanomaterials behind him began to assemble, forming the shape of a planet.
"First, let me introduce you to your homeland: Krypton."
Clark's eyes widened, like an elementary school student in class.
Dane knew this was one of the most important moments of Clark's life. He remained quiet and did not interrupt.
"Krypton's environment was far harsher than Earth's."
"Long ago, during the age of expansion, our people traveled across the stars in search of new habitable planets."
"Countless ships were launched into the universe. The one beneath our feet was one of them."
"We established outposts on other worlds and designed massive machines to reshape the environment according to our needs..."
The nanomaterials assembled into a massive three-legged machine. It was the World Engine.
