Background
Tang San grew up alongside Xiao Wu for six years and regarded her as his closest companion. Protective of her, he promises to keep her safe when Jiang Yunzhou’s presence unsettles her, despite Xiao Wu privately doubting whether he could protect her from a Titled Douluo 20.
He follows Yu Xiaogang’s instructions to enroll at Shilaike Academy even after seeing Supreme Academy’s superiority. His trust in Yu Xiaogang’s guidance outweighs Xiao Wu’s proposal that they change academies 24. He remains devoted to Yu Xiaogang for years, though he later reflects that the master was not suited to guide him 287.
Jiang Yunzhou’s arrival turns Tang San into an increasingly hostile rival. Seeing Jiang’s seven soul rings prevents him from intervening directly during the confrontation at Shilaike, but he resolves to surpass him 23. Jiang’s attention toward Xiao Wu and Xiao Wu’s growing closeness with Supreme Academy intensify Tang San’s jealousy and distract him from cultivation 40 43.
Personality
Tang San is loyal, protective, and strongly bound by promises. He refuses to abandon Shilaike because Yu Xiaogang instructed him to join, even when he recognizes that Zhu Zhuqing may be difficult to defeat without hidden weapons 24. He also reacts fiercely whenever others disparage Xiao Wu 37.
His attachment to Xiao Wu becomes possessive after her growing independence and friendship with Jiang Yunzhou’s disciples. Her repeated refusals leave him hurt, jealous, and increasingly resentful toward Jiang Yunzhou 34 40.
Following repeated setbacks, Tang San becomes driven by revenge and the need to prove himself. After Tang Hao tells him that Jiang Yunzhou crippled him and imprisoned his mother, Tang San declares Jiang Yunzhou his mortal enemy 250. Later, after losing to Xiao Wu and witnessing Yu Xiaogang’s decline, he becomes more introspective and acknowledges his own arrogance 287.
