Background

Before his resurrection, Madara lived in an underground hideout as an aged and frail man. As his body deteriorated, he restored the injured Obito Uchiha and considered him a successor capable of continuing his plan and eventually reviving him. 47

Madara’s Rinnegan had been transplanted into Nagato Uzumaki when Nagato was young. Madara expected Nagato to use those eyes to restore him when the time was right. 199

Black Zetsu’s clone eventually located Madara’s corpse and revived him through Impure World Reincarnation, sacrificing a White Zetsu. The initial reincarnation was flawed: Madara’s strength was heavily restricted, and he lacked part of his immediate recollection. 221 222

After learning that Obito, Nagato, and the Akatsuki had aligned with Uchiha Daiki, Madara became interested in meeting the Hokage rather than retreating. His first priority, however, was recovering the Rinnegan from Nagato. 222 223

His ambition evolves from imposing “permanent peace” through absolute power into a direct pursuit of eternity. After learning that Black Zetsu had manipulated the Moon Eye Plan, Madara abandoned the pretense of peace and openly stated that he wanted to evolve by consuming Chakra Fruits until he became an undying god. 226 249

He is calculating when necessary: he manipulated Hashirama into supporting his plan, sought Sage Chakra to bolster himself, and formed a temporary alliance with Ōtsutsuki Isshiki when Uchiha Daiki’s return threatened them both. 271 272 294 However, he remains ruthless toward anyone he considers inferior, treating Konoha’s defenders and the Jinchūriki as obstacles rather than people. 251 275
