Background
Iris grew up at Hogwarts after the Fergus family declined during the Wizarding War. Her grandfather, Hogwarts’ Deputy Headmaster, was frequently occupied with work, while Albus Dumbledore raised her as his adopted daughter. Of the once-prominent Fergus family, Iris believed only she and her grandfather remained. 3 8
Her parents died in the war, and the trauma became entwined with her Obscurus. Her inner world is an ancient, vine-covered castle containing the seal on her Obscurus and a portrait embodying her mother’s blessing; Iris returned there whenever she entered deep sleep. 61 62
Iris and Luna Lovegood grew up together at Hogwarts and became inseparable friends. Iris secretly took Cypher Corvin’s Hogwarts letter so she could accompany him through Diagon Alley, initially introducing herself as “Iris Dumbledore.” 3 10
Appearance
Iris has fair skin, silver-white hair, and sky-blue eyes. As a third-year student, her white hair and blue eyes remain her most recognizable features, while bloodline awakening has made her appearance mature more rapidly than expected. 3 273 345
- Delicate oval face with bangs and a bright, expressive smile. 3
- Often wears refined white or blue outfits; her early Diagon Alley clothing included a plaid shirt, short skirt, bow ornament, and mismatched white-and-black stockings with faint magical fluctuations. 3
- Her hair temporarily shifted toward silver-white while she was held in Brandt Fergus’s cave ritual. 114
- Her Obscurus manifests as a black-haired, red-eyed reflection of herself in a black dress. 62
Personality
Iris is confident, lively, and openly affectionate with people she trusts. She enjoys teasing Cypher, from dragging him through Diagon Alley to tricking him into wearing an heirloom uniform, but her playfulness coexists with genuine protectiveness and loyalty. 4 177
Highly intelligent and curious, she is especially drawn to spell theory, magical runes, and experimental magic. She can become proud when praised for her work, yet is willing to study intensely and revise her designs through repeated testing. 94 97 100
Her greatest insecurity is feeling unable to stand beside Cypher in danger. She has repeatedly expressed frustration at being left behind, but remains determined to protect Cypher and Luna even while struggling against the darkness within herself. 62 284 369
Abilities & Skills
Obscurus and Bloodline Power
Iris is an Obscurial whose phoenix-shaped Obscurus is sealed within her inner world.
- A loosening seal can trigger destructive magical outbursts, including a scream that killed nearby rats and suspended falling raindrops. 60
- Her Obscurus feeds on loneliness, grief, and memories of her parents’ deaths; it once manifested as a hostile duplicate determined to destroy anyone seeking to control her. 62
- Iris can consciously draw on Obscurus power in combat, though doing so risks exhaustion, loss of control, and manipulation by outside forces. 112 247
- She possesses two magical sources; removing a parasitic demon seed required sacrificing part of one source, leaving her temporarily weakened. 257
Hell Phoenix Animagus
Iris completed an Animagus transformation during the group’s transformation ritual.
- Her Animagus is a phoenix later identified as a Hell Phoenix. 118 410
- The transformation involved consuming Vitality Potions and rebirthed her origin, clearing negativity and darkness from her aura. 118
- Her bloodline’s phoenix nature is a major reason Cypher believes she can survive and communicate from Hell. 410
Magical Runes and Array Design
Iris is an exceptional magical analyst with particular expertise in runes, magical arrays, and spell structures.
- She identifies flaws, compatibility functions, and power trade-offs in complex magical-rune structures. 97 389
- She modified the group’s Fiendfyre array to suit the distinct magical characteristics of herself, Luna, and Cypher. 100
- She helped inscribe complex runes onto Cypher’s custom katana through the Mind Palace. 364
- Her rune knowledge made Miranda Goshawk seek her help in creating a clear, standardized spell textbook for younger wizards. 81
Mind Palace
Iris created the Mind Palace, a personalized resonance magic linking herself, Luna, and Cypher.
- It began as an attempt to recreate the trio’s temporary magical resonance and enable thought-based communication. 94
- Iris used Patronuses as relay stations, collected resonance data, and tailored exclusive rune structures for each participant. 100
- The completed spell creates a shared virtual-reality-like space in which linked users can communicate, coordinate, and synchronize work. 100 364
Spellcraft
Iris is a capable spellcaster and an enthusiastic teacher.
- She taught Cypher the Levitation Charm by explaining her own summarized casting methods and physically guiding his wand movement. 18
- She can cast and control Fiendfyre with a wand after sustained practice, though it initially required emotional preparation. 99 100
- She uses practical magic such as Transfiguration, waterproofing, Disillusionment Charms, Shield Charms, and healing spells. 18 110 369 373
- In crisis situations, she may default toward overwhelming magical force rather than the most controlled response, a weakness Cypher repeatedly tries to correct. 369 370
Enchanted Painting
Iris inherited a family connection to Enchanted Paintings.
- She can paint highly realistic conventional portraits and has professional brushwork and color-mixing ability. 176
- She explains that true Enchanted Paintings require the artist to invest emotion into the work, a level she had not yet reached. 176
- Her subconscious urge to paint Cypher became an early sign that a parasitic presence was affecting her. 248
Magical-Creature Affinity
Iris can communicate with magical creatures.
- She formed a contract with the young unicorn Snowflake at the Unicorn sanctuary. 112
- She helps care for animals and patiently interacts with younger magical students. 373
