Background / History

Qian Daoliu is Martial Soul Hall’s strongest figure and the grandfather of Qian Renxue. Because Bibi Dong refused to perform maternal duties and Qian Xunjie was consumed by papal affairs, he became Qian Renxue’s primary caretaker from her birth. He understood her longing for maternal affection better than the rest of her family did 1 2.

At Qian Renxue’s martial soul awakening, he was the first to react when a black streak entered her body, releasing the pressure of a Level 99 Peerless Douluo throughout the Pope’s Palace. His spiritual power could not locate the intruder, leaving him to consider whether it was linked to an unknown Peerless Douluo or a god 1 2.

When black Soul Power manifested from Qian Renxue and formed the Fallen Angel, Qian Daoliu attempted to suppress it. Instead, his own Soul Power was consumed and converted, strengthening the darkness. Drawing on his Angel God assessment experience, he warned that the Fallen Angel would erode the Angel heir’s will and turn its host into a puppet of dark power 3.

Personality

Qian Daoliu is deeply affectionate toward Qian Renxue. He comforts her when she cries over Bibi Dong’s rejection, conceals painful truths from her when he believes they would hurt her further, and repeatedly puts her safety before his pride or authority 2 18 31. Her disappearance in the Star Dou Great Forest drives him to mobilize Martial Soul Hall’s Spirit Saints, Spirit Douluos, Titled Douluos, and nearby branch halls for a full search 28.

His love is constrained by his faith, hierarchy, and adherence to institutional rules. He initially regards Ah Rou’s status as a Soul Beast as incompatible with Qian Renxue’s future, and he allows Ah Rou’s imprisonment to continue in the belief that Qian Renxue will eventually accept it 105 108. When Bibi Dong’s attack nearly kills Qian Renxue, however, he admits that no Hundred Thousand Year Soul Ring or Soul Bone is worth his granddaughter’s life 109.

Although he is powerful, Qian Daoliu avoids directly overruling the Pope, arguing that excessive intervention would throw Martial Soul Hall’s rules into disorder. He accompanies Qian Renxue into the Star Dou Great Forest for her first Soul Ring, carefully selecting a 660-year ring based on the Angel lineage’s inherited standards 19 21 22. After Qian Renxue disappears in the forest, he launches a continent-shaking search and ultimately agrees to Lucifer’s demand for long-term separation from Qian Renxue, provided Lucifer behaves until she becomes a Titled Douluo 28 31.

Qian Renxue’s Departure and Return

When Qian Renxue disappears with the Angel Inheritance Spirit Bone, Qian Daoliu recognizes that Ah Rou’s death has damaged their relationship more deeply than he expected. Rather than publicly mobilizing Martial Soul Hall, he orders a discreet search and worries that Lucifer will exploit her grief 119.

Years later, Qian Renxue returns to the Elder Hall under the identity of Heaven Dou Royal Academy’s Fire Phoenix prodigy. Qian Daoliu is simply relieved that she has come back, and later guides her through the Sacred Stairway in hopes of purifying the darkness within her 152 153.
