Background / History

The Uchiha are one of Konoha's foremost shinobi clans. Their members value strength openly: after Eiji decisively defeated Fugaku's son Itachi in the Chunin Exams, the clan accepted the result rather than retaliating, and some members celebrated Eiji's promotion. 1 2

Before Eiji's rise, the clan's relationship with Konoha was deteriorating. Danzō repeatedly treated the Uchiha as a potential rebellion threat, ordered surveillance of Eiji, and sought grounds to act against the entire clan. The pressure created a divide within the Uchiha between radicals calling for revolt and members favoring restraint or diplomacy. 5 6 11

Eiji's killing of six Root operatives made him a symbol of resistance among many clansmen, while Fugaku and Shisui struggled to prevent the clan's internal dispute from becoming open rebellion. 11 Eiji subsequently negotiated a delay to Root's interrogation of the clan, received Fugaku's approval for revised Security Division regulations, and was entrusted with the spy investigation. 24

The crisis peaked when Itachi's conspiracy with Konoha's higher-ups and Obito to massacre the Uchiha was exposed. Eiji killed Itachi, revealed the plot to the clan, and prevented the outraged members from launching an immediate revolt. Fugaku resigned, naming Eiji interim leader. 81 82 83

Fugaku initially remained titular clan head while Eiji was still underage, but Eiji later became the clan's recognized head. Under his leadership, the Uchiha shifted their focus toward recovering political standing within Konoha and pursuing enemies operating under the guise of allies. 85 89

Organization and Operations

Uchiha Security Division

The Security Division is the clan's principal institution within Konoha. Eiji maintained that its duty to uphold order in the village had been entrusted to the Uchiha by Tobirama Senju. 23

Eiji's intervention changed this balance. He exposed Danzō's possession of stolen Sharingan and Hashirama-derived Wood Style, pushed for an Uchiha-led investigative body, and helped dismantle the mechanisms used against the clan. 84 87

Eiji later succeeded Hiruzen as Hokage, becoming the first Uchiha in history to hold the office. The clan celebrated the achievement as the realization of a long-denied political aspiration. 101
