Background / History

Kakashi was shaped by a succession of losses. His father died by suicide after being unable to endure the village's rumors; during the Third Shinobi World War, Obito Uchiha was believed killed while saving Kakashi and gave him his left Sharingan. Kakashi later killed Rin himself, and eventually lost his teacher Minato Namikaze as well. These deaths remained a recurring source of nightmares and guilt. 13

As an Anbu operative, Kakashi submitted daily reports to Hiruzen and monitored Uchiha Eiji's early contact with Naruto. He initially suspected Eiji of having ulterior motives, but came to recognize Eiji's kindness toward Naruto and accepted that someone was finally caring for Minato's son. 5 8 9 18

Kakashi resigned from Anbu after becoming exhausted by his duties and chose to serve as an ordinary Jonin. He subsequently trained intensely, determined to confront Obito again and resolve their past. 91 94
