Chapter 42: Come Study Fireworks

Love potions, after all, weren't like "I Love a Ragdoll" or "Aphrodisiac Powder" in their effects, so Hogwarts turned a blind eye to such potions. Mrs. Weasley had even brewed one during her student days.

After Charles and Eleanor encountered trouble, they hadn't crossed that line. Besides, Charles was still young and could control himself. At most, they'd just kissed each other.

When they left the laboratory, everyone acted as if nothing had happened.

"You know, a lot of people are very envious of you."

"If you weren't a first-year, you would have received duel invitations by now."

Fred and George researched Charles's request while complaining about him.

Charles knew they were talking about how close he and Eleanor had been lately. He just pouted and casually said, "I just saved her cousin this spring, she sees me as a younger brother."

"Look, Hermione and her cousin were classmates in primary school, and she still takes good care of Hermione."

At this moment, Eleanor and Hermione were sitting at the other end of the long table, discussing Potions.

Snape had always been hostile towards non-Slytherins, but Eleanor was an exception. Dumbledore had said that if he did anything to cause Hogwarts to lose its annual 50,000 Galleons donation, he would personally cover the shortfall.

Charles didn't dwell on the topic anymore and asked Fred and George, "How is it, can fireworks like that be made?"

The twins began to discuss seriously. A range of at least 100 yards, up to 300 yards, could be achieved by stacking gunpowder. The key was the trigger function of the fuse, along with the safety and timed self-destruct features, which required careful research.

After listening, Charles agreed to provide 10 Galleons in research startup funds. For each of the three required functions they solved, they would receive 10 Galleons in progress payments. Finally, after the complete assembly and successful test firing, they would receive another 10 Galleons, not including future procurement costs.

He added with a laugh, "This money is enough for you to buy your sister a new robe."

Fred said, "And a new wand."

George added, "And new textbooks too."

Charles left the matter to them for research, stating that if they couldn't make the outer casing or similar parts, it was fine, as he could find a way.

However, these "fireworks" needed to be researched and developed before next spring. Now that it was cold, the Acromantulas weren't laying eggs. Once the weather warmed up, they would work overtime laying eggs, and then it would be time to get to work.

After discussing the fireworks research, the twin brothers, each with an arm around Charles's shoulders, asked him in a low voice, "We heard you have your own broomstick?"

"And it's the best in Hogwarts?"

"We heard it's French."

"Can we see it?"

Charles glanced around and replied in a low voice, "This isn't the place to take it out. Come to my dorm."

Showing his broom to his friends was one thing, but causing a sensation by taking it out in public was another. He didn't want to attract too much attention.

The three arrived at the dorm and saw Seamus and Neville playing a game inside, with Harry and Ron watching from the side.

There was a two-meter-long table in the dorm. The surface was divided into many squares of different colors. At one end were several balls of two different colors. They used the Accio Charm to control the balls rolling towards them, seeing who could score higher.

At this moment, Seamus was hopping mad because one of his balls had been knocked off the table by Neville's ball. The two spectators roared with laughter.

Next, Seamus tried to knock one of Neville's balls off with his own, but he missed and his ball rolled off the table instead. The audience laughed even louder.

Before long, everyone was captivated by Charles's broomstick.

The broom floated above the long table, rotating automatically, as if on display in a showcase.

"Wow!"

"It's a work of art!"

The twins, being connoisseurs, couldn't help but exclaim.

The other friends were also amazed. Harry couldn't help but compare it to his own Nimbus 2000.

"The right one is the best," Harry told himself.

Fred suddenly asked Charles, "Are you planning to install the fireworks on the broomstick?"

George suddenly understood and said, "That makes sense now."

The requirement for the fireworks to have a range of hundreds of yards was a bit strange.

Charles didn't hide anything and nodded, replying, "Yes, the Forbidden Forest is very dangerous. I need to help my centaur friends eliminate some enemies."

Harry and the others didn't know about Charles and the centaurs yet, so Charles gave them a plausible excuse.

"Oh, right!" Harry suddenly remembered something. "I heard from Hagrid that there's a 'Spider Reaper' in the Forbidden Forest. Many of Hagrid's friends were killed. Especially last summer, 26 spiders were killed in one month. Do you have any leads?"

Charles just shrugged. He had leads, but he couldn't say it was because Harry had pleased the old man so much last year that he'd gained a few pounds. He himself had been busy as a bee in the kitchen at the time.

"No leads," the second Spider Reaper shook his head. "I always flew overhead and didn't pay attention to what was happening on the ground."

On the side, the sixth Weasley glared fiercely at the fourth and fifth brothers, clearly recalling unpleasant memories.

The fourth and fifth brothers ignored their eldest brother and started discussing the client's new demands.

They found that some techniques were beyond their grasp, so they went to find their third brother. On the way, they went to find Wood from the Quidditch team.

Percy said angrily to his twin brothers, "I don't have time for your nonsense. I have exams in June next year."

Fred told him, "Charles promised us 50 Galleons in reward."

George added, "Ginny will be coming to Hogwarts next year."

Percy asked his two younger brothers, "Do you have any questions?"

Meanwhile, Wood heard that Charles had an excellent broomstick and immediately tried to recruit him for the Quidditch team.

Harry was a little excited when he saw this and chimed in from the side. Fortunately, he didn't mention that he had already joined the team.

"Not interested," Charles shook his head. "Let Ron go. He has good talent as a Keeper."

Ron, who had been merely envious on the side, immediately puffed out his chest when he heard Charles actually recommend him, looking expectantly at Wood.

"Really?" Wood didn't believe it.

Charles nodded and said, "Really. As long as he builds confidence and focuses during the game, his performance can definitely surprise you."

"Bring him along for your next training session to try him out. It's free anyway."

This made Ron puff out his chest even higher.

Wood thought for a moment and finally said to Ron, "Alright, come to the next training session and see."

Ron immediately agreed. After Wood left, he was about to thank Charles, but instead saw a strange smile.

"Don't get happy too soon," Charles said to Ron and Harry. "Harry, during this time, help Ron with reaction training and dynamic vision training. Don't neglect physical training either."

Ron shivered subconsciously, feeling like his future days would be difficult.
