Background / History

Hong Yun was originally known as a carefree wandering cultivator whose innate Carefree Dao Charm manifested as red clouds. At the first gathering of Purple Heaven Palace, he voluntarily surrendered the fourth futon to Jieyin after seeing the two Western cultivators’ hardship. Zhenyuanzi then yielded his own seat to Zhunti. The gesture created immense karmic ties once the futons were revealed to be Saint Position opportunities 191.

His act of compassion later became the source of severe tribulation. The karma of “yielding one’s seat” visibly bound his wrist, while the resulting fortune-and-misfortune backlash left him fearful and physically weakened 151 153. During a visit to Chen An’s courtyard, he received reassurance that “a single good thought is also merit,” calming his karmic thread and restoring his confidence in the kindness that caused the crisis 153 154.

After the Saint Position revelation, Kunpeng accused Hong Yun of costing him his opportunity. Hong Yun was initially unable to answer, shaken by the unintended consequences of his decision; Zhenyuanzi, Jieyin, and Zhunti stood with him against Kunpeng 192 193. The conflict was temporarily suppressed, but Kunpeng’s hatred continued to threaten him 195.

Hong Yun’s tribulation took the form of a scar of falling within his primordial spirit, steadily eroding his fate and Dao foundation. Zhenyuanzi’s Earth Book discovered that its spread had slowed by a “one breath,” while a vision of a pine tree, stone table, and the character Harmony reinvigorated Hong Yun’s Purple Heaven Palace comprehension and created a faint thread of life 206.

When he sensed a decisive opportunity at the foot of Buzhou Mountain, Hong Yun chose to confront his fate despite Zhenyuanzi’s attempts to restrain him. Burning his remaining power and essence blood, he broke through the Earth Book’s barrier and departed as a crimson-gold rainbow toward the Calamity 212. Hongmeng Purple Qi then descended, erased his scar of falling, and transformed him into the Dispersed Saint Hong Yun 216.

Before his ascension, Hong Yun appeared as a frail, pale cultivator burdened by tribulation. His condition later transformed completely with his Saintly remolding 151 206 216.

Hong Yun is fundamentally compassionate, spontaneous, and unrestrained. He yielded his Purple Heaven Palace seat because he could not bear to watch Jieyin and Zhunti suffer, never expecting the gesture to determine a Saint Position opportunity or provoke Kunpeng’s hatred 191 193.

The consequences leave him anxious, guilty, and deeply troubled by karma, but he does not abandon his original conviction. Chen An’s affirmation allows him to understand that genuine kindness retains merit regardless of later consequences 153 154.

When faced with certain death, Hong Yun becomes resolute. He accepts that the karmic disaster began with his own choice and leaves to meet it directly, even while weakened by his scar of falling 212.
