Background / History

Li Shunxi was the youngest son of an official family. While publicly appearing to be an ordinary young master, he secretly learned exorcism, demon-catching methods, and martial arts, resolving several haunting incidents without his father's knowledge. He concealed his ability because of competition within his household. 61 62

He first encountered Lu Sheng during the Song Family Village incident, where he investigated a series of disappearances. Li attempted to save the possessed Gong Ruqing, but Lu Sheng killed her instead; the event initially convinced Li that Lu Sheng was needlessly ruthless. He later understood that Lu Sheng had recognized the danger and planned the village's destruction in advance. 62 64 66

Li's family was subsequently destroyed after his father investigated the Carefree King's blood sacrifices and connections to demonic forces. His former friends, associates, and childhood sweetheart betrayed him; the latter poisoned his wine. Destitute and wanted, he was found drunk by Lu Sheng, who gave him money and refused to report him to the authorities. Li left Yan Mountain City to avoid endangering Lu Sheng and his family. 99 100

While fleeing between the Northern Lands and Central Plains, Li joined Liu Qin and Liu Caiyun, who shared his enmity toward the Carefree King. He later acted as an intermediary between the Martial Alliance and Red Whale Gang, arranging grain-for-technique exchanges with Lu Sheng. 118 129 132

Carefree Manor forces eventually drove Li and the Liu sisters from the Martial Alliance. Liu Caiyun was killed during their escape, and Liu Qin sacrificed herself, merging her portion of the Mystic Jade into Li and entrusting him with revenge against Carefree Manor. 143
