Mechanics

Armament Haki is the form of Haki used to reinforce the body, weapons, and attacks. Its manifestations are commonly pitch-black, though it can also be described as black energy or a black-and-gold glow when combined with other Haki. It is closely tied to stamina: strong attacks and prolonged elemental exposure deplete it, while sufficient reserves can prevent damage from otherwise dangerous abilities 199 316.

• It allows users to defend against and strike Logia Devil Fruit users; without it, Enel's lightning-based mobility made him extremely difficult to capture 191.
• It can be applied to fists, legs, blades, projectiles, and even large structures 115 201 316.
• Full-body coverage is a demanding application. Kalifa could coat her fists but could not yet protect her whole body from Gawain's lightning 199.
• Armament Haki functions through a characteristic of flow, contrasting with Observation Haki's sensory focus and Conqueror's Haki's infusion 163.
• In high-level combat, the effective use and endurance of Armament Haki are central to exhausting an opponent's defenses first 316.

Hardening

Armament Haki can coat a user's body or weapon in a hardened layer, increasing durability and offensive force.

• Hancock reinforced her leg with both Armament and Conqueror's Haki to shatter Gion's blade light 115.
• Kalifa coated her fists before sparring with Gawain, forcing his Logia body to evade rather than simply absorb the blow 199.
• Ace used pitch-black Armament Haki on both arms while preparing to block an opponent's attack 456.
• Zoro first perceived Armament Haki as black light emanating from his swords during the Wano conflict 449.

Weapon Coating

Weapons can be infused with Armament Haki to improve their striking power, durability, and ability to engage Devil Fruit users.

• Rayleigh's Armament-coated sword sent the Logia user Ace into the sea with one strike 225.
• Whitebeard coated Murakumogiri before using it against Shiryu and seized Shiryu's blade with an Armament-covered hand 148.
• Gawain infused Roaring Tiger Echo with Armament Haki while clashing with Dragon 287.
• Kaido's Hassai Kai was wreathed in immense Armament Haki during his confrontation with Gawain 473.

Projectile and Area Defense

Armament Haki can reinforce thrown objects and protect targets far larger than the user.

• Gion and the Black Bird crew used Armament-coated baseballs to test Gawain's perception and Logia evasion 201.
• Garp enveloped the entire Baratie Restaurant in Armament Haki to protect it from Fujitora's meteor 316.
• Pirates defended their ships with Armament Haki against the sea and shockwaves produced by Sengoku's attack 538.

Flow and Internal Damage

Armament Haki can be applied in more advanced ways than surface hardening.

• Rayleigh describes Armament Haki as having a flowing quality, which better-crafted swords can naturally channel in rhythmic patterns 163 168.
• Skillful Grade Swords facilitate a more fluid distribution of Armament Haki, while ordinary weapons require greater effort to shape the coating 168.
• Gawain identifies the advanced form of Armament Haki as Ryuo during his training, though he has not yet mastered it at that point 201.
• He later uses “Armament Haki, Ryuo” to inflict internal damage on an enemy whose exterior remains outwardly unmoved 618.

Stamina and Attrition

Armament Haki is sustained by the user's stamina. A powerful enough strike can substantially deplete an opponent's reserves even when it fails to visibly injure them.

• Garp's punch consumes roughly ten percent of Zephyr's total Armament Haki in a single exchange 316.
• Continuous exposure to harmful elemental abilities forces opponents to maintain their defenses, draining both Haki and stamina over time 199 221 316.
• Gawain's lightning is especially effective for attrition because opponents must distribute Armament Haki across their bodies to avoid paralysis and electrical damage 199 221.
• Peak-level combat revolves around using one's own body and Armament Haki efficiently enough to deplete the enemy's protection first 316.

Training and Development

Garp's pursuit of stronger Armament Haki illustrates the extreme effort required for advancement at high levels. Unable to break Chinjao's Armament-reinforced head with one punch, Garp spent three months leveling seven mountains with Armament-coated fists; the resulting improvement allowed him to breach Chinjao's defense and dent his head 116.

Gawain begins focusing on Armament Haki after gaining the Goro Goro no Mi, as it is the only conventional foundational power system he has yet to master. Gion insists that he face her attacks directly rather than rely on his evasive lightning-based combat style, since pressure is necessary for his Armament Haki to improve 201 234.

• Tekkai and Kami-e are identified as methods that can accelerate the awakening of Armament and Observation Haki respectively 163.
• Rayleigh advises Gawain not to regularly use high-grade swords until he can maintain them with Armament Haki 168.
