| Awakening | 3 | Saint Gawain awakens Conqueror's Haki during his confrontation with Charlos. Its initial release creates a massive shockwave, incapacitates most of Mary Geoise, and damages nearby buildings. |
| Uncontrolled wide-area release | 18 | Gawain's Haki spreads indiscriminately through Mary Geoise, knocking down Celestial Dragons, attendants, and allies alike; he acknowledges that he has not yet mastered its control. |
| World's strongest intensity recognized | 27 | In a clash at Marineford, Gawain's Haki overwhelms Sengoku's and forces it to retreat, while the collision tears open the sky and raises waves twenty to thirty meters high. |
| Emission demonstrated | 108 | Rayleigh demonstrates Conqueror's Haki infusion and Emission: Haki-coated attacks can strike at a distance and shatter targets without direct contact. |
| Basic application and coating mastered | 122 | After three months of instruction under Rayleigh, Gawain masters basic applications and Haki coating despite his initially weak physique. |
| Advanced coating mastered | 269 | Gawain coats a massive electromagnetically controlled metal torrent in black-and-gold Conqueror's Haki while fighting on Little Garden. |
| Directional release | 299 | Gawain combines Observation Haki with controlled release, directing his Conqueror's Haki specifically at nearby pirates while only accidentally affecting a few Marines. |
| Incomplete ultimate control | 473 | Despite possessing the world's strongest Conqueror's Haki, Gawain has not yet achieved complete control sufficient to crush other top-tier combatants outright. |
Nature and Growth
Conqueror's Haki is not treated as a simple inborn talent. The Five Elders describe it as arising from determination to achieve a goal, the audacity to pursue it, extreme self-confidence, and an open-minded nature. A user who is constrained by external influences or unable to remain true to themselves cannot continue advancing it 6.
Rayleigh's observations place a user's dream at the center of their Haki's initial strength. It grows as the user realizes goals, clarifies new ambitions, strengthens their will, and develops confidence that they stand above all others 118.
Abilities & Skills
Intimidation and Incapacitation
Conqueror's Haki exerts overwhelming pressure that can render weaker targets unconscious.
- Gawain's first release knocks out most people in Mary Geoise and leaves thousands of slaves and bystanders unconscious 3 4.
- His Haki can affect targets at extreme range; its release over Mary Geoise creates disturbances visible from Marineford and Sabaody Archipelago 4.
- A controlled release can be directed at selected targets, as when Gawain incapacitates Ace's crew while concentrating pressure on Ace himself 226.
- The effect is not limited to humans: Gawain's and Whitebeard's clash causes birds to fall from the sky and fish to turn belly-up 146.
- Raw output can destroy matter even without relying solely on unconsciousness; Gawain's early Haki pulverizes buildings and reduces nearby objects to dust 24.
Environmental Pressure and Haki Clashes
When powerful users oppose one another, their Conqueror's Haki can visibly collide as black-red or black-gold lightning and physically affect the environment.
- Gawain's clash with Sengoku tears the sky open and agitates the sea around Marineford 27.
- During Gawain's clash with Whitebeard, the pressure peels back surrounding seawater in layers and clears the clouds overhead 146.
- Gawain initially suppresses Whitebeard's Haki through sheer intensity; Whitebeard concedes that he cannot match Gawain in Conqueror's Haki intensity alone 146.
- Strength can differ by aspect: Marco judges Shanks's Haki to affect minds more strongly than Gawain's, while Gawain's has greater influence on matter and reality 244.
Infusion and Emission
A proficient user can infuse Conqueror's Haki into their body, weapons, or attacks.
- Infusion wraps attacks in black-red lightning and substantially increases their striking power 108 115.
- Rayleigh describes Emission as an invisible blade covering the user's body; it allows an attack to strike beyond the user's physical reach 108.
- Because Emission's range is difficult to judge, it can make attacks unpredictable against opponents who cannot foresee the future 108.
- Hancock combines Conqueror's Haki and Armament Haki around her leg to shatter Gion's sword strike with Perfume Femur Kiss 115.
- Gawain uses advanced coating to reinforce a metal torrent during his battle at Little Garden 269.
Limitations
- Early releases can be indiscriminate. Gawain's lack of control incapacitates people behind him as well as those he intended to intimidate 18.
- Exceptional Conqueror's Haki does not replace physical strength, combat skill, or training. The Five Elders and Kuma both note that Gawain initially possesses supreme Haki but an inadequate body 12 108.
- Its battlefield utility depends on troop placement. Gawain avoids using it freely during a thirty-million-person war because it would incapacitate large numbers of his own densely deployed forces alongside the enemy 546.
- The ability's growth depends on the user's mindset, goals, confidence, and willingness to remain true to themselves 6 118.

Story Role / Major Events
- Gawain's awakening in Mary Geoise establishes the ability as a major political concern. Kong initially intends to eliminate the slaves who witnessed it, but Gawain orders that they be spared 4.
- The Five Elders consider Gawain's Haki and potential sufficient to make him a future candidate to replace one of them, while insisting that he train his body and control over the ability 12.
- Gawain's overwhelming clash with Sengoku at Marineford convinces Gion of his power and contributes to her decision to become his bodyguard and combat instructor 27 28.
- On Amazon Lily, Gawain forcibly ends Hancock and Gion's confrontation by releasing Haki powerful enough to shatter every tree within two hundred meters into fragments 115.
- The clash with Whitebeard publicly demonstrates the scale of top-level Conqueror's Haki, drawing the attention of audiences across the world and cementing Gawain's reputation 146.
- Gawain later uses controlled Haki to subdue pirate groups without indiscriminately incapacitating nearby Marines, showing the practical value of refined control 299.
- His clash with Kaido pushes the latter back as the Black Bird enters Wano Country, establishing Gawain's Haki as a decisive force in the conflict 448.
