This Works Too?
As soon as they crossed the threshold, the group could hardly believe what they were seeing.
There was only one table in the room, with seven medicine bottles of different shapes arranged on it.
"A table, a few bottles, is this Snape's trap?" Lee Jordan had barely finished speaking when a Purple Flame suddenly rose behind them, completely sealing off the entrance. Flames also shot up at the doorway leading to the front, only this time they were Black Flame.
They were trapped in the room.
"This color of flame... doesn't look good!"
"Even if you don't say it, we can tell." George glared at Lee Jordan, silencing him, then turned to Albert and asked, "What should we do now?"
"The secret must be in those bottles on the table. Look what this is!" Fred reached for a piece of parchment next to the bottles, cleared his throat, and read aloud its contents:
Danger is in front of us, safety is behind us.
Two of us can help you.
Drink them; one will lead you forward, the other will send you back to where you started.
Both contain Nettle Wine.
Three assassins are lining up and waiting...
Apart from Albert, the other three were completely baffled.
"This must be a puzzle game!" Fred muttered to himself, then shoved the parchment into Albert, decisively giving up on participating in the puzzle game.
"Just tell us how you solved the mystery later!" Lee Jordan patted Albert on the shoulder, as if to say, "This task is entrusted to you."
George also shrugged and said with a helpless wry smile, "I'm not good at this either."
Albert ignored the three scoundrels and continued reading:
Make your choice, unless you wish to remain here forever.
We also provide four clues to help you choose:
First, no matter how cunningly the poison hides, it is actually standing to the left of the Nettle Wine;
"Actually, this is just a logic puzzle." Albert quickly came to this conclusion after reading the contents of the parchment.
"You probably don't know this, but many great wizards actually don't have much logical reasoning ability," Fred casually remarked after hearing Albert's words.
"I dare say, if you weren't here, we'd probably be stuck here forever," George chimed in, giving him a look that said, "Hurry up and solve this mystery."
"You won't," Albert suddenly said.
"Can't do what?" None of the three understood what Albert meant.
"You won't be stuck here forever. Dumbledore will come and get you out." Albert said, then looked at it again.
After discovering that Albert had finished reading, George couldn't contain his curiosity and asked, "What did you discover?"
"This paper means that of these seven bottles, three contain poison and two contain wine," Albert said, handing the parchment to George.
"Among them, there is one bottle that can help us safely pass through the Black Flame. That's right, it's the smallest bottle; it can help us pass through the Black Flame. As for the bottle that can send us back through the Purple Flame, it's this one." Albert said, taking out the round bottle on the right and introducing it.
"How did you know?" The three of them were dumbfounded, feeling incredibly incredulous at how Albert had made that judgment in an instant.
"It's very simple. You can label the seven bottles from left to right as one to seven."
"Mark?"
"Yes, the markings are for easy identification. The fourth point on the parchment is the second one from the left and the second one from the right. Although they look different, they taste the same." Albert pointed to the bottles two and six and said, "Based on the third point, you will find that the bottles are different sizes. Since there is no Death hidden in the Giant and dwarfs, it can be seen that six is not poison. The taste is the same, and it is not poison, so it means that two and six contain Nettle Wine."
"Because no matter how cunningly the poison hides, it is actually standing to the left of the Nettle Wine, so seven is not the poison."
"By eliminating the possibilities, the poison must be one, three, four, or five." Albert pointed to the four bottles and added, "The third bottle is the smallest of the seven, the so-called dwarf, so it's not poison."
"The only possible antidotes are three and seven." Albert picked out the two bottles separately and continued to explain, "Based on the different contents of the bottles on the left and right sides of point two, if you want to move forward, neither of them will be useful to you. That is, the one on the right cannot help you move forward, so it can only help us retreat through the Purple Flame."
"It's that simple?"
After listening to Albert's explanation, the three of them immediately understood what this so-called logic game was all about.
"It's really simple. Anyone who isn't stupid should be able to solve it."
"However, I doubt anyone could figure it out at a glance like you do!"
All three of them couldn't help but think to themselves, "Is Albert calling me an idiot?" "There's probably only enough Potions for one person," Fred said, picking up the smallest bottle and shaking it. "It's probably less than a single sip!"
The four looked at each other in bewilderment, and finally Fred handed the small bottle to Albert.
If anyone could continue, it would be Albert.
"I have a way!" Albert thought for a moment and said, "Using the Replenishing Charm might be able to get us through the black flames together, but it's risky. I'm not sure if the Potions fully charged by the Replenishing Charm will work, because I haven't tried it."
"Is it really possible?"
Nobody wants to stop here.
"I don't know. The black flames give me a bad feeling. They're a bit like the legendary Fiendfyre, but Fiendfyre can't be this docile." Albert considered it for a moment and finally gave up the idea of letting Fred, George, and Lee Jordan risk their lives to try it. It would be a big loss if they got hurt.
"Fine, you can just wait here!" he said to the three of them.
"Remember to tell us later, Dumbledore..."
"What good stuff is hidden here!" Fred, George, and Lee Jordan were a little disappointed, but they didn't insist. They could also sense that the flames were dangerous.
"Knew."
Albert opened the smallest bottle and drank the liquid inside in one gulp.
A chilling coldness instantly seeped into Albert's body, making him shiver involuntarily.
Albert tossed the empty bottle to Fred and strode forward; the black flames posed no threat to him whatsoever.
After passing through the black flames, Albert went down a staircase and soon arrived at a room.
Sure enough, just as described in the novel, the Mirror of Erised, which had been seen in the Room of Requirement, was brought here by Dumbledore as the final mechanism.
Albert was curious whether he could retrieve the Philosopher's Stone from the Magic Mirror.
He slowly walked towards the magic mirror, looked at himself in the mirror, and it seemed... nothing had changed! No, it wasn't that nothing had changed.
Albert found himself smiling at him in the mirror, and then, the Albert in the mirror actually... pulled a red stone out of his pocket.
That was the Philosopher's Stone that Albert had seen at Nicolas Flamel's place.
"This... could it be..."
Albert reached into his pocket and found a red stone.
Looking at the Philosopher's Stone before him, Albert was speechless.
Is this even possible?
"The headmaster should have a way to put the Philosopher's Stone back!" Albert reassured himself.
