Background / History

Su Chen was reported to possess Innate Full Soul Power despite seemingly having no Martial Soul. When Bibi Dong personally investigated, the testing crystal shattered; her attempt to force an awakening instead caused Su Chen to absorb her Soul Power. His initial white Ten Year Soul Ring transformed into an unprecedented black-and-white ring, prompting Bibi Dong to bring him to Martial Soul City. 2

Bibi Dong accepted Su Chen as her second personal disciple and arranged for Oscar, who had accompanied him, to study under a food-type Soul Douluo. Although Spirit Hall could not identify Su Chen’s Martial Soul or its associated soul beast, Su Chen began developing its powers with Little Black and Little White, two sentient soul-power entities produced by his first skill. 3 4

After training in Spirit Hall and defeating Yan in a spar, Su Chen infiltrated Skywater Academy under the identity of Shui Yue’s nephew. There he concealed his true circumstances, studied Martial Soul theory, pursued medical and meridian research, and worked to dissolve the foreign Soul Power within his body. 7 14 15 18

Su Chen later survived a near-death period and kept his return secret from Spirit Hall and Bibi Dong. He travelled with Ziji, strengthened his body and cultivation techniques, revisited former allies, and pursued independent goals rather than relying on Spirit Hall’s protection. 60 61 77 94

Su Chen is repeatedly noted for an appearance refined enough to be mistaken for a girl while masked at the Soul Arena. Following his fusion with the Ice Empress’s power, his body undergoes a major transformation. 21 143
