Background / History

Originally known as the Goddess of Misfortune, Dawn became the God of Dawn and established authority through the Church of Dawn. Her divinity includes misfortune, darkness, theft, and manipulation of destiny; she also maintained the Church’s faith, prayer chants, and anchors. 486 500

Dawn made a wish for the method to become an Outer God. The universe answered by bringing Ning Xiuyuan into existence, though she could neither identify his origin nor inspect his memories or past. She named him Arthur and cultivated him within her sphere of influence, intending to use his growth for her own ascension. 494 495 501

During the war against the God of Mechanical Undead, Dawn intervened directly and prevented its metamorphosis into an Old One. She subsequently acquired and digested its complete divinity, strengthening her position among the gods. 312 320

Dawn later maneuvered the gods into a united campaign against the True Church in Xothic. She considered the True Church’s expansion an existential threat to the Old Gods’ territories and sought to use the Man of Truth as both ally and test subject, probing the extent of his hidden powers during the conflict. 471 473 474

When Ning Xiuyuan had become the God of Illusory Sleep and the Man of Truth, Dawn summoned him to an unknown stone palace. She revealed that she knew his identity and demanded that he sacrifice his true form, the Man of Truth, in return for allowing his clone to inherit Mother Earth’s position. 494

After Ning Xiuyuan refused, Dawn attempted to usurp his fate through the true name Arthur. Her scheme initially made attacking her equivalent to attacking Ning Xiuyuan himself, but the struggle ended with Dawn’s avatar dissolving into rot. Her wish then manifested in a cruelly literal form: she revived as a mechanical girl rather than regaining her former divine body. 492 495

Following her defeat, Dawn offered the Church of Dawn to Ning Xiuyuan in exchange for continued existence.
